Picked this lens up ~2 years used. Hands down the best DX lens I've used on my Nikon DX. I mainly shoot landscapes and architecture. This lens excels in most any conditions. I have B+W filters on this lens and love the results with the circular polarizer. True colors and crisp details. Good in low light situations such as sunset/sunrise. I've been tempted to try the 18-300 zoom but I don't want to put this lens down for an all-in-one because the results can't be as good.

I have a lot of Nikkor primes, but this is the lens I use for walking around with my D7500. I've read that it's not the sharpest, but I'm not pixel-peepng. My 11 x 14 inch prints look just fine. Recommended.

Sharp and very flexible, this lens made my camera bag much lighter because I use it to replace three lenses I used to carry.

This is my favorite lens for my D5500! Beautiful color rendition, sharp corner to corner from 16 mm to 80mm!

After buying this lens I have sold all my other "walk-around" lenses. Sometimes I wish it had a touch more zoom but the quality of the images more than makes up for that.

The 16-80 was my choice when we ordered a new D7500 and we love it. While not a professional photographer the upgrade from an older D90 was a little challenging. Being a senior citizen does not help. Pleased to reccomend both the camera and lens.

I need a faster lens for wildlife photography, and this lens fits the bill without the bulk of a longer lens. It also doubles as a all-around travel lens, especially for indoor or low light photography. It provides good wide angle coverage as well as moderate telephoto capability. We are headed to an area where we will be in hides (blinds) at dusk and in the evening, so we will be reasonably close to any subjects that appear inside the lighted area of the blinds. This lens will serve me well for that purpose. I would recommend the lens as a travel lens as well as for someone photographing in low light.

This lens is awesome!! Probably my favorite lens, the VR is the greatest thing since cameras were invented. It's also a really fast lens which I love since I like using naturally the most. The images that are produced have a crisp, vibrant feel and look to them. I would highly recommend this lens.

Although I have a nice collection of lenses, this tends to be my go to for most uses. Great for everything from landscapes to portraits.

Reviews were so positive so I bit for the higher price for this lens for my D7200. The photos are simply great, color. detail and lighting so true with no post-processing. This has squelched my incipient thoughts of going to a FF camera (at least for the time being.)

This is a replacement for my 16-85VR that was stolen and I was astounded to find that it's even better...faster, sharper and closer focus. I thought it wouldn't be worth the much higher price but I'm glad to be proved wrong. A very good deal from Adorama also including a few necessary accessories for the retail price, essentially a bonu$.

I finally got a great walk around lens. Although it was expensive I decided to take a deep breath and go for it. Adorama return policy was also a deciding factor for I knew if I didn’t like the lens it could be returned.

I waited a few months to give this lens an honest workout, and can sum it up concisely: WOW, it's worth the investment. I have several Nikon/Nikkor lenses and this blows them all away, even my primes. I actually used my (cheap) AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR 99% of the time for walking around, because it outperformed all my other lenses for most applications... but sadly I dropped it and broke the autofocus. Replacing that 18-55 with this AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR was literally a night-and-day improvement in picture quality. The lens is fast, great autofocus, great low-light, great VR, great bokeh. If you're looking for a good walking-around lens, I was very happy with the 18-55, and it is quite a bit lighter than this 16-80 (my small tripod now tips over with this 16-80 attached). But if your goal is image quality plus making your photos brilliant and artistic, this 16-80 is the one lens that's actually worth the price of admission.

This is a massive step up from the 18-105 kit lens my D7100 came with. Very sharp, very fast and very much worth the price of admission!

Because the aperture is f/2.8-4 this is a light weight lense perfectly suitable as a walk around lense for a camera with a crop sensor. It would be a wide angle lense for a full frame sensor. Highly recommended.

I have been needing a lens of this size to use in the field. I have been using Nikon equipment for over 10 years now. I have done everything from landscape to wedding photography and this lens is amazing. The size and weight are great but the glass and the sharpness of the images meets and exceeds my expectation. Good job Nikon.

This lense works well and gives you extra zoom when needed. I use this for landscapes and portraits. I even used it for a wedding during the reception. Pictures came out great. Also great for nighttime pics.

I'm not a pro, but have been carrying a camera with me just about everywhere I go since I was 8, which was more than a 50 years ago. Built a dark room in my bedroom when a teenager, taught lab work in an art college while studying painting - - you get the picture. I have a Nikon 5200 and felt its kit lens was not maximizing its potential. I mostly take nature and "intimate", close range nature subject, also some portraits. Bought this lens a month ago and I'm in love again! It's very sharp, easy to adjust manually, very fast (yes, I read in some reviews it is not the fastest), and its zoom range works perfectly for me. For me, it's well worth its hefty price.

It's decently fast at f2.8 to 4.0 and the zoom range is very handy for an ASP-c at the equivalent of 24-120. I have lenses that are wider, longer, faster and sharper, but this is the around-the-house default lens.

I did some test shoots under various light conditions. Photos turned out very nice and sharp. I am taking it for my upcoming trip to Japan, Hokkaido, for landscape photograph. It is a very light weight multi-ranges lense for travel.

This lens is excellent. It's a very useful focal length range and is extremely sharp on the D500. It's relatively small form factor make it a delight as an all around travel lens.

I bought this lens with the D500 almost a year ago and have been quite happy with its performance. It produces sharp images and with the 16-80mm (24-120mm with crop factor on DX body), it offers a large range of focal lengths in a compact, light configuration. Unfortunately, I recently noticed a small piece of debris on the center of inside front element of the lens. After calling Nikon I was lead to believe this would be covered by the warranty. After sending in the lens to Nikon Los Angeles at my expense ($ shipping and insurance) I was informed that “dust” is not covered by the warranty and it would cost ($) to repair. I’m baffled as to how a piece of debris could travel past 16 elements (13 groups) and attach itself to the inside front element under normal usage. I would have to assume the piece of debris was in the lens since new. Nikon should have repaired the lens under the warranty. In the future, should I ever purchase another Nikon product, I will consider buying Gray Market, since it appears the Nikon warranty is really not worth much. Might as well save some money from the start…

After sending in the lens to Nikon Los Angeles at my expense ($30 shipping and insurance) I was informed that “dust” is not covered by the warranty and it would cost $421 to repair. I got this as a travel lens to replace the kit 18-105mm for my D7000. During my recent travels, I didn't miss the extra zoom range from 80-105, and was quite pleased with the VR in low light. Is the price worth it? That depends on your budget and needs. The 18-105mm has been my only lens since I started photography 6 years ago, and now I expect this 16-80mm to be my only lens for the next 6+ years, even after I upgrade my body at some point years down the road.

This lens works taking night shots, it's the only photo project I have used it on as I got it 4 or 5 days ago. I hope it does as good on the next project. I would recommend it later as I use it more, maybe.

Bought this because my old DX 18-200 was showing its limitations with the 20+ MP of my D500. This lens is sharp, light weight and convenient for travel.

This lens replaced a Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Thought long and hard about making the change (much more expensive). Glad I did. Three things make this lens preferred. One, it is sharper. Tested the two together using a chart and library bookshelf. Nikon consistently outperformed the Tamron. Not huge but noticeable. The bigger issue for me is the color fidelity. The Nikon seemed consistently more saturated (which I prefer). The extra reach of the Nikon is a plus as well. Wish build quality was a bit higher but the all plastics does make it lighter. Focusing is OK. Not great, not bad. Optical output is outstanding. Quite expensive but love the results.

Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8/4 test
By Thejohnz
i owned the Nikkor 16-85F3.5/5.6 years ago. It was a great lens but when I made the move to FX I sold this lens along with the D7000. Now, after owning a D800 and D750, I got intrigued by the latest offering, (in the DX market) the D7200. It proved to be a great camera for telephoto shots, (I own the 80-400 F4.5/5.6, the 70-200F4, the 300mmF4 VR) but I had no wide angle lenses to use with it. So, I purchased the 16-80mmF2.8/4 in the hopes it would be a good match. Well, after two days of sh...

Superb mid-range nano-coated zoom lens!
By DaveyJ
I have waited for a long time for a flagship 16-80 range DX lens. It's here! The build quality, fit and finish is super. The ability to have this range in a no questions lens for a camera such as the D7100 and D7200 is now available. It is excellent in macro, can really reduce camera shake with the on board VR, and the lens coating appears perfect. If you have really longed for this zoom range in DX with no compromises this is it. It is not a small lens. The provided lens hood when in place m...
