Yes the lens is very good . Maybe not the greatest professional results but for some great quality pictures it cant be beat. I use it in addition to my 18-300 lens for general use including sports. If I want a smaller lens I use this one. I like the 18mm level for indoor/close ups, yet I have the capacity for longer shots. I find the pictures generally crisp. NOW the plastic issue. I bought my lens used with a broken mount. Not a big deal replacing the mount, but after some reflection on the issue I realized that the plastic mount is a sacrificial part which actually "saves" the camera. Too bad Nikon isn't more sympathetic to repair/cost.

This lens came with my D7100 and I've always kind of hated it because with zoom it can only open to f/5.6 but you know what? After 6 years of owning it now I can say it's actually a pretty good lens. It's seriously seriously sharp, that's a fact. In some events my 1.8 lenses are actually insanely awful because they can't autofocus correctly with low light, not to mention the absolutely ridiculous focus shift they have. This one on the other hand ALWAYS saves the day. It's actually kind of crazy to think in how many occasions this lens has saved me. The plastic mount is kind of hilarious tho, what a way to ruin such a great lens. Obviously I wish I could use a more open diaphragm, but it makes no sense to remove a star from the review just for that since it's not like they're promoting this lens as a faster lens. This is a 3.5 - 5.6, period. If you want a faster lens then why buy this and then complain about that? 4 starts just because of the plastic mount and how cheap it looks, but it's a great and sharp lens

Não gostei nem um pouco da aberração cromática com essas lentes. Muito rosa e muito verde nas laterais da imagem.

This is my go-to for everyday. It's been a workhorse. I recently had it and another lens stolen. This is the first one to be replaced.

Getting ready to order another one as soon as the insurance check arrives this week. This will be my second purchase of this lens. My original got stolen (My stupidity - don't ask). It works well and for the price, you can't beat it. I have a 70-300mm Tamron and a 10-24mm Tamron, but this is on my camera most of the time

Back in my film days I kept a 35-105 pinned to one of my Nikkormat bodies at all times and it was my favorite rig for just about everything. People, landscape, street shots, hot rods, live musical performances. When I made the move to digital last fall I wanted a similar lens as the kit lenses I received with my body just didn't cover that 50 -100 mm range well, at all really. This 18-105 is just awesome. Great clear shots and I'm able to frame with the zoom and rarely run out of reach. If I do with the huge pixel counts of today crop can fix that easily. Some may say this lens is a bit slow but with the available iso in a modern DSLR no lens is really slow at least to me compared with shooting film years ago. It stays sharp at both ends of the scale. It is my favorite walk around lens at this time. I shoot mostly in manual mode with auto iso. Works pretty slick.

I bought a refurbished D7000 with the refurbished 18-105. It was received in new condition - I could not tell it had ever been used, if it had been. I have been using this lens for over two years and it is my go to lens for most of what I do. I shoot mostly landscapes, flowers and action shots of my Sheltie. It focuses quickly and works great for most situations. I have shot just about any condition you can think of and gotten a very high rate of acceptable to awesome results from this lens. Focus can be a little soft at times but nothing that can't be taken care of in post processing or in camera.

This lens has proven to be the real workhorse of my Nikon lenses. It gives you an excellent wider than usual view to a somewhat longer telephoto than you might usually get with a wide angle lens. The versatility of this lens allows you to do a great deal of shooting without ever having to lose time and opportunity or great shots because you're changing lens. I recommend it highly for quality and usefulness.

After 40 years of professional photography and using Nikon cameras in or shop, I decided to switch brands from "the other guys" to Nikon and purchased a D90, which serves me fairly well in a variety of situations, including artifact photography for a museum. I use a Speedlight SB-700 with it. Unfortunately, while hiking I left the camera and lens coupled, in a well-padded high end camera bag, with the lens facing upwards while I was walking, so that I could just gab the camera and take a quick shot.. The up and down movement over the trail loosened components inside the lens, specifically the aperture ring and rendered the unit unserviceable. I had no option but throw away the lens. I had a 100 mm prime lens from another maker but it doesn't work with my D90. Works on other ones in the camera store, for some reason. Otherwise the D90 performs adequately with the 70-300 Nikon ED I subsequently purchased as a stopgap measure but I am limited for its use,. And I don't find both of these lenses very sharp. They are a beginner's lens and it shows.

This is a good "go-to" lens for the times when you can't or don't want to carry a bunch of equipment. The lens has a range that will meet a majority of your ordinary needs. This is not a high-end lens but it's quality is good enough to produce nice images. It also isn't a fast lens, but most cameras nowadays can give images in high ISO that have acceptable noise to compensate. It is a Nikon lens, so it is made to be rugged. It is a bit front heavy so care should be exercised when it is mounted. I bought a refurbished model along with a warranty. I have used the lens often now and feel I made an excellent purchase.

I BOUGHT THIS LENS USED BUT WITH THE HIGHEST RATING. IT CAME TO ME LOOKING BRAND NEW. THE RANGE OF THIS LENS MAKES IT A GREAT ALL PURPOSE LENS. IT IS ON MY CAMERA AS THE PRIMARY LENS. I TAKE A LOT OF WIDE ANGLE LANDSCAPES AND IT SERVES THIS PURPOSE WELL BUT IT IS NICE TO PROMPTLY GO TO TELEPHOTO. I HAVE CLEAR, SHARP PHOTOS WITH GREAT COLOR. I\IT IS A LITTLE HEAVY BUT FOR WHAT I DO IT WORKS WELL.

I bought this lens refurbished -- which means that Nikon, at a factory, corrected anything that was less than brand-new in quality. It is the default lens for my camera now. Presuming 35mm focal length to be "normal" for an APS-C sensor size, this lens's 18-105 mm zoom range goes from "twice as small" to "three times as big," which covers most pictures I want to take, especially outside where there is more light. At one pound it's little more than my wife would like for walking around -- she would prefer the 18-55. Also, it is an okay (but not fantastic) lens for indoors, as the maximum aperture at 35mm is only f/4.5. And of course it is not quite as sharp as a 35mm prime. But that's the nature of zooms. The best endorsement I can give about this lens is that if I only get to take one lens with my camera, I would almost aways take this one.

I received this lens with my D7000 in early 2012. Overall it was a great lens on this body but went quite soft past 70mm and I was concerned about the plastic mount. So, after reading numerous reviews, I decided to purchase the Nikon 16-85VR hoping to see a big improvement especially at the long end and I found the wider end to be a plus. Sharpness on the long end versus the 18-105VR and the build quality is better with the 16-85VR, but at twice the price of the 18-105VR, the improvements in my opinion were cost prohibitive! Enter the D7100...On this camera body, the 18-105VR really came to life even more so than the 16-85VR. Don't misunderstand me, both are good lenses, but for the money, the 18-105VR is difficult to beat unless you graduate to professional grade glass. The 16-85VR handles CA's a bit better, and it should at double the price, but this is easily corrected and both lenses suffer from moderate distortion and pin cushion which is also easily fixed. However, for general street photography, flowers and landscapes, the 18-105VR is very good overall; tack sharp and well worth the price. Mounted on the D7100, you would have to be a pixel peeper to tell the difference between the two lenses from wide to mid-range of their respective zoom ranges. The only reason I gave this lens only 4 stars is the plastic bayonet mount. DO NOT grab the camera by the lens with the 18-105VR as some plastic mounts have broken. And it remains a bit soft on the long end, but for the money, one can't go wrong with the 18-105VR especially on a newer body. I know there are many who will say I'm nuts. But for general photography, this glass is difficult to beat for the price!

My issue with this lens is that it reflects the shortcuts in construction to make it a less expensive kit lens. No issues with the glass itself, the VR, focusing all good, and a handy zoom range. The lens mount is plastic, not metal like most other quality Nikon lenses. If you hurriedly pick up your gear up by the lens (hey we all do it once in awhile) instead of the body your lens may just break off like mine did. Nikon charges to fix this and says it is from being knocked/abused. The plastic 'seal' at the end of the outer ring under which the inner barrel slides can slip out of place allowing debris to enter. So if you treat the lens with kid gloves it can serve you well but if you get out and about and use your equipment under real world conditions I'd get a more substantial lens. The AFS DX18-200 which seems to have a higher build quality is what I bought to replace this lens.

about as good as it gets for a single-purpose jack of all trades lens. not the best option for portrait, but when you need to shoot a variety of wide angle and landscape, this is the most useful lens you can hope for.

This was a factory-reconditioned lens that looks brand new for the same price as I saw on other sites for a moderately used lens. Great deal.

For my D5200, this is my small event lens. For distances under 70 feet, this is the lens to get. I have had no issues with this lens. It gives clear, sharp pictures, with wonderful detail. I've had no problems in low-light situations. Colors are brilliant and accurate. If you're thinking about it and are not sure, check out the refurb sold by Adorama. I received mine the next day via UPS. I am happy once again after lending/giving my first 18-105 to a student from my church.

This lens is a kit lens for a reason, very cheaply made, (front ring came off within the first couple months) - if it came with your camera then by all means use it for average pics but do not spend your hard earned money on this lens if it didn't come with your camera. Very few images have come back tact sharp using this lens, but when I shoot w my 50 1:4 I get an incredible image and great bokeh. You'll be much better off buying the 18 0r 28-300 or better yet just invest in the 17-55 2.8 or 24-70 2.8
