The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR versatility is strengthened by 4 stops of VR image stabilization. In addition to VR image stabilization, it uses ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass, which virtually eliminates reflections and lens flare for better contrast and Aspherical (AS) lens elements for minimizing aberration and improving image integrity and color. Nikon's remarkable Silent Wave Motor (SWM) provides ultra-fast, ultra-quiet autofocusing, a major advantage when recording video. Good all-in-one walkaround lens

By

from El Paso, TX  -  Photo Enthusiast

I purchased this to use with D5100 & D7100. The metal mount is solid and much better than the 18-55mm kit lens. Only two negative comments: (1) zoom ring is too tight and requires a large turn from 18mm to 140mm. Because of this I missed some shots on moving objects; (2) light falls off and distortion at the 4 corners. This is particular obvious when I process the photos in DXO Optics Pro, and compare with my 16-85mm lens. Other than these, a great walk around lens to carry (if you dont want the hassle of changing lens, and risk missing good shots, dust in sensor etc). I will use it to take parties, weddings, and other general use. For landscape and architecture, I will stick to my 16-85mm, for wildlife, I continue to use 70-300mm, for macro I use 40mm.

Too much distortion

By

from El Paso, TX

I have owned D40, D80, D3100, and now uses D5100 and D7100. I sold the kit 18-55mm DX and 55-200mm DX lens because of the plastic mounts, and upgraded to 16-85mm DX and 75-300mm lens. Over time, I found that my photography style seldom uses focal length >150mm. Therefore, I thought of buying 18-140mm as the "one and only walk around lens" so that I do not have to bring 2 lenses, and take the trouble to switch them, and risk dust getting onto the sensor. This 18-140mm feel solid in my hand, but the zoom ring is too tight (over damped). It also required a large degree turn to zoom from 18mm to 140mm. This is good for precision (if you have time) but in a few occasions I miss good compositions on moving objects. Compared to 16-85mm, this 18-140mm has higher distortion and light falls off at the 4 corners at small focal length. These are very obvious when I load the photos into DXO Optics Pro. Although DXO Optics Pro can correct most defects, it is still better to start processing with a better image. I have been using this 18-140mm to take parties, weddings, social events. For landscape and architecture shots I still stick to the 16-85mm. I think the price and image quality of these 2 lenses are fair. It depends on how much you are willing to pay and your photography style.

Big improvement

By

from Trinidad, California

This lens lives on my D300 pretty much all the time. It replaces an old 18-105 kit lens, and a used 18-200 that I bought with the used camera a couple of years ago. The refurbished 18-140 is faster and sharper than either, and I'm glad I bought it.

The DX walk about lens

By

from Louisiana

I got this lens cause I'm a bit lazy and don't like changing between my 18-55 and the 55-200 while I'm wandering around the zoo. The aspect ration makes it the equivalent of a FX 28 - 210 which is generally wide enough or long enough for most things. I wish it was faster but "gee" Nikon VR does a great job in low light. I know there are better lenses but this one shoots better than I can appreciate.

Fantastic Walk Around Lens

By

from Bristol, VA

Good balance between weight and reach for me. Very sharp, and the VR is fantastic. I have taken shots at 1/4 that are tack sharp. I would highly recommend as an everyday walkabout. Will very rarely leave my camera body...which is the whole point of a lens with this kind of range anyway.

AF-S DX Nikkor18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR

By

from San Francisco, CA  -  Pro Photographer

AF-S DX Nikkor18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR lens We got the 18-140mm lens with our purchase of the Nikon D5300 camera. We wanted one zoom lens for general photography. The choice was between the 18-140mm, the 18-55mm, and the bigger DX zooms like the 18-200mm or 18-300mm. We wanted one lens so we wouldn't have to carry a lot of gear around with us. The goal was for a light and relatively small camera outfit. The 18-55mm just didn't have the reach at the telephoto end and it has a plastic mount ----- I HATE the plastic mounts and would never buy a lens with a plastic mount. I've heard plenty of stories of the mount breaking off. The 18-200mm and 18-300mm zooms would have a great range of focal lengths, but were both bigger and heavier than the 18-140mm lens. The 18-140mm has a very useful range for shooting from wide-angle to moderate telephoto for a DX sensor camera; it's the equivalent of 27-210mm in FX format. So we went with the 18-140mm lens and we're very pleased. I own a D800 camera with some fine high-end lenses, but I'm very happy with the 18-140mm on the D5300 camera. Of course, it's not as good as some of the lenses I use on my D800 --- but it's still an excellent lens for a DX camera. It isn't a terribly fast lens, but you can compensate somewhat for that by using a higher ISO setting. If you're looking for a DX lens at a relatively low price, with a very useful range of focal lengths, very good image quality, lightweight, and small size ---- I'd recommend the Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G. We got ours for around $300 when purchased with the Nikon D5300 camera. At that price it's a GREAT lens. Attached are some images shot with the 18-140mm lens mounted on the Nikon D5300 camera. The pictures are all handheld with VR turned on. The lens seems ideal for travel photography, scenics, and most general subjects ---- it's a very versatile lens.

izrael r  this lens works for FX cameras full frame?
EDWARD K  Yes it will.
Shopper  Is 18-140 much better than 18-105mm lens?
Dave M  Hi, I own the 18-140 but have no experience with the 18-105. That being said they are both the same speed so why not go with the 140 for the extra reach? I love mine. I'm a street photographer and use the 35 1.8 for low light and night and the 18-140 for my walk around day time lens. Recommend highly!
Shopper  Does this refurbished lens include a 1 year warranty from Nikon?
MARK C  I purchased a 3 year warranty thru Adarama for 19.99. covers damage and 1 replacement for free if it breaks
