This is my second 18-200 lens. (Granddaughter now has the first.) It is more than adequate in terms of sharpness and auto focus speed. It is a great value. This one was purchased from Adorama used and it was in near out of the box condition.

A great all in one zoom with coverage from an effective 28-300mm. A little slow on the maximum aperture, like most consumer zooms. Sharp optics an quick auto focusing in good to fair light. Bought this for my wife for her D5100. She prefers having just the one very versatile lens. This does show some zoom creep, which was solved with the otherwise identical VII. I find though, that even when carrying it around with lens pointed down, as long as it is zoomed back to the 18mm widest setting. It stays put. Personally, I prefer smaller faster primes, but my wife loves this, the image quality is vey good, the vibration reduction is very effective, and the auto distortion control in her D5100 corrects the barrel and pincushion distortion in camera. Not perfect, but I can't think of a better all in one, everything considered.

I purchased this type of lens on the recommendation of the company doing the conversion of my Nikon D2X to infrared use. It works extremely well. I have bought a good bit of my equipment from Adorama. I have been satisfied in every case//

This lens is great! The clarity is good, although there is distortion and chromatic abrasion at either end - it's not something that you can't fix in Lightroom or Photoshop. The most important thing to me, though, is the convenience of it all. I hate changing lenses and getting my sensor dirty each time, so this works awesome for that problem!

I got this lens for my Nikon D90 crop sensor body exclusively for a trip to Europe, I traveled with this lens and a 35mm f2, and that was all I used, the 18-200 pretty much stayed on the camera 80% of the time Not particularly light weight but comfortable to carry, very sharp, focus was accurate and consistent, at f8 gives fantastic results but I was not afraid to shoot wide open, VR works as is supposed to, Bokeh is achievable at the longer end like 135mm and 200mm with a pleasant result , I used to shoot Canon and had the 18-200 IS on the Canon mount, not a bad lens, but this Nikon is simply superior in every way with USM, manual focus overide and built. The newer VRII is the same lens as this VR I, but includes a Lock button at 18mm and a gold badge, while this lens did not suffer from creep, it would be nice to have the locking button, other wise, the results are pretty much the same in every way to the VRI (BTW is the same VR system on both lens so don't get confused by the VR I and II) In general this could be very well a real one lens solution for most users, I will confess that I will not get rid of my prime and faster lens, but for fun and walking around without a bag full of stuff, this lens really delivers.

This particular lens was used, and may have been defective, so I would not generalize my experience to all of the 18-200 mm Nikon lenses. I think this one was damaged. At this time I am not trying another lens, I will make do with what I have.

I've had the chance to use this lens indoor and outdoor in a number of situations. The stabilization is great, especially zoomed in! The photos have been great so far. I haven't tried it in a sport setting, but the limited action shots (outdoors) have been good. I'm liking this lens for all-round use through out the range: from wide angle to zoom.

Slow to focus, but whaever, I can work around it. Love the zoom range and I have it in my photo work and family shots. I Sold my d700, 24-70, all the good stuff I had because I had to downsize. I got this lens with my old d60. If you know how to work light you got a nice lens at an awesome price right here.

I bought this lens used in very good conditions, also the price was very convenient. The description matched the product. Thank you Adorama

FANTASTIC walk around lens for the price! It's a lighter weight and has great output. It would be wonderful if it were better in low light, but definitely a great value!

I've been shooting with all primes for the last couple of years with enough success for my purposes. After a trip to Colorado, however, where lugging around a bag nearly knocked me out for good, I decided to look into finally taking the plunge on a zoom for the first time since my kit lens days. I poked around online for as long as I could stomach (a few weeks of research: Ken Rockwell, flickr groups, friends, etc.) and settled on the 18-200 VR I, after deducing that the VR II wasn't necessarily worth the extra cash for what I needed. I've been shooting with it for a few weeks now and I feel like I'm relearning photography. The 18mm side is wider than any lens I have, and 200mm is the longest telephoto I have as well, so needless to say it's been a big boost for my range. Pros: -The color is better than any other lens I have -At its best, it's pretty sharp under surprising conditions (lower light, macro, zoomed in, etc.) -Minimal flare -Obviously versatile -Relatively easy to find used Cons: -About as heavy as my three lens bag -Not the sharpest tool in the shed -Makes me wish I had a D800 and some FX lenses

This lens even though it's not the latest version is still a strong competitor. Much better quality than sigma an tamron. The auto focus is very fast, quiet, and accurate on my d300. The build quality is great but you'd expect that from a nikkor lens. This is a great all in one lens as well giving 27-300mm in 35mm it gives wide angle plus telephoto all in one light lens.

Great all in one lens. Very hand for travel as you don't have to carry multiple lenses for a broad focal range.

Beats the 18-200 kit lens (on a D7000) Bought it used. Then returned it when I heard about the 28-300. Still tryin to decide between that or a faster zoom (80-200 f/2.8). This lens would be all you need if you're not interested in low light action.

It really does it all. My version suffers from lens creep, but I understand the newer version has solved that problem. It is not, of course, true macro, but you can get very close with this lens. For most purposes, this is really all one needs.

I love the flexibility I have with this lens! It's great for travel, eliminating the hassle of carrying a bunch of lenses. And for a zoom lens, the picture quality is excellent.

Awesome lens! could not expect less from Nikon. The one and ONLY con is that every now and then for pointing-down shots the lens creeps little by little out so you have to hole the zoom ring to keep the focus where you had it. other than that it's an awesome lens for when you can't carry more than one lens around.

I got this lens for its convenience while shooting weddings. While I prefer constant aperture lenses to this one, I also hate having to constantly change lenses in an ever-changing wedding environment. With this lens I can switch from a wide-angle shot to a zoomed-in close-up in no time, and that is very convenient. Love the VR, but still sometimes have trouble getting a really sharp shot because the lens is so heavy (because of the VR motor). I feel like even with the VR, if I'm zoomed out to 200mm I want to use a tripod if it's convenient. Overall, I think this is a very good all-purpose lens that replaced my original kit lens (35-70 f/3.5-5.6 I think?) and my 70-300 f/3.5-5.6.

This is a great one-size-fits-all lens that works for almost anything. Particularly useful if you want to quickly snap a picture and don't like fumbling with lens changes. It has helped me reduce sensor dust because I never remove this lens.

GREAT LENS AT A GREAT PRICE !!!!!

I USE THIS LENS WITH THE NIKON D-300 CAMERA AND COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. I DECIDED TO SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY OVER THE SIGMA OR OTHER BRANDS, AND ITS PAID OFF. THE VR IS GREAT WITHOUT A TRIPOD. I TAKE PICTURE OF EVERYTHING FROM SPORTS,PORTRAITS,WILDLIFE, AND IT PERFORMS GREAT. AUTOFOCUS NO PROBLEM AT ANY FOCAL LENGHT. THIS IS THE DO IT ALL LENS,I DONT LEAVE HOME WITH OUT IT. PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS TELLING ME TO SELL MY PICTURES ,CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS LENS !!!!
All you need is...

This lens is everything I ever wished for. It is sharp and focuses fast. VR is a miracle in many situations. You might think your shots are sharp but wait until you see VR in action! It does not have lens creep - I think Nikon fixed this. It feels solid and with great construction quality. I have taken shots at all focal lenths and have not noticed any distortion for any 'normal' photo. If you zoom everything 100% and study shots of buildings or any other subject that might be affected by l...

Nikon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor is a high-ratio 11x zoom lens with Nikon's exclusive VR (Vibration Reduction) technology. In addition, Nikon's compact AF-S Silent Wave Motor provides fast and quiet autofocusing while the M/A mode allows for simultaneous switching between Autofocus and manual focus operation.
