About Nikon 35mm F/1.8

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens, is the first fixed focal length, fast-aperture DX-format lens that affords photographers superb image quality along with the creative possibilities and versatility of the classic 50mm focal length (FX-format equivalent of 52mm). When mounted on a DX-format camera body, it enables photographers to document their world with a lens that produces a picture angle similar to the field of vision as seen through the human eye. Whether new to D-SLRs or a seasoned enthusiast, users will appreciate the extreme low-light performance and the expanded ability to dramatically separate the subject and background with the new 35mm DX lens' wide f/1.8 aperture.

Lightweight, compact and affordable, this lens can easily become a fast favorite for any level of photographer, and is the perfect complement to D60 users who are just starting to learn D-SLR photography or enthusiasts who love their D90. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is ideal for travel, general photography, landscape shooting, portraiture or pushing creative boundaries. The stunning sharpness, clarity and color reproduction are all proof positive of more than 75 years of NIKKOR heritage and experience in optics engineering.

This lens continues the tradition of NIKKOR precision optics to provide photographers with sharp, high-resolution images and the ability to focus as close as 0.98 feet, while the integration of an ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor ensures fast, whisper-quiet AF operation.

The 35mm DX lens construction consists of eight elements in six groups, with one aspherical lens to reduce size and weight, while contributing to the enhanced balance when mounted on a smaller DX-format D-SLR. A rounded diaphragm opening combined with the seven-blade aperture contributes to a substantially more circular bokeh for a more natural appearance of out-of-focus background elements. Additionally, instances of lens flare and chromatic aberration are suppressed using Nikon's exclusive Super Integrated Coatings, which also help ensure vividly accurate color balance.

The Nikon 35mm F/1.8 is commonly used for Landscape/scenery, Low light, Macro photography, Night photography, Sports/action, Weddings and more. The Nikon 35mm F/1.8 is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Casual photographer, Photo enthusiast, Semi-pro photographer among others. The Nikon 35mm F/1.8 is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Nikon 35mm F/1.8: Consistent output, Durable, Easily interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight and Nice bokeh

great lens, great price.

overall I feel very happy with this lens, it does every thing that it should very well. tI is a plastic lens, and feels like one, but it's the image it produces that counts (and it can produce great pictures). For the price, I think that it is the best buy that I have made in a long time.

Beginners dream

By

from NC

I somewhat recently took up photography and was using an 18 - 50mm kit lens. I'd always seen these sort of magazine quality images with perfect contrast and creamy bokeh, and I could nail the composition of my photos but it still wouldn't ever look quite as good. This lens fixed that. It's incredibly sharp, but what's more is that colors pop like crazy on my photos! I got it a few days ago and I can already tell a huge difference with my photography. As an amateur, I'm definitely looking to learn more about photography. This lens will help me in that it is a fixed lens with no zoom, and so forces me to think more about framing the subject and the angle instead of just lazily zooming in or out. My only complaint about this lens is that it somehow has made my camera louder, specifically focusing and shooting. But it's not a big deal. All in all, I recommend this lens to anyone learning photography or looking for an inexpensive, professional looking lens.

Look No Further

By

This lens is truly one of the best purchases I've ever made. I use it every single day, and it works for so many kinds of photography. It is perfect for portraits, but also landscapes and scenery. I love this lens so much and don't think I could find a better "everyday" lens if I tried. If you're considering this lens, go ahead and get it, you will NOT be disappointed.

Excellent and affordable lens for Nikon crop sensors

By

from Boston, MA  -  Photo Enthusiast

When I purchased my D7100, I needed a lens to go with it. I preferred to skip the kit lens, since I wanted a faster lens than f/3.5 for low light. I couldn't afford a f/2.8 zoom at the time, and I tend to prefer primes anyway, so the 35mm f/1.8 was an obvious choice. Very affordable, approximates a 50mm field of view on crop sensors (52.5mm to be exact), and good sharpness. I have used it wide open, but I generally stop down to f/2.2 for best results balancing sharpness and shallow depth of field. If you want more depth of field, the lens performs very well at higher apertures as well.

Very good lens

By

from Memphis, TN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought this lens because Ken Rockwell so highly recommended it. He was right. It is a superb lens. I immediately took photos of my Harley Vrod at maximum aperture and they look great! The background is beautifully out of focus. The details of the engine and bodywork are sharper than the results with any other lens I have. The photos were significantly noticeable for their clarity and sharpness, compared to my kit lens (18-105mm VR).

Nice image quality, but just a little slower than I expected.

By

from Ohio, USA

Lens takes very nice crispy photos. I use it on my D7100. Nice bokeh it's a 1.8! For moving objects like a dog ,the focusing is a little slow. I like the lens a lot aside from that. It's light and compact takes awesome photos.

Amazing for journalism photography

By

from Round Rock, TX, USA

I'm one of the photographers in my school's yearbook program. This lens has been amazing every step of the way. -First off, it is extremely lightweight which is awesome because I can focus on photography instead of struggling with camera shake like my friends who use the school's huge canon zoom lenses -Focus is very fast when in viewfinder mode. -Photos are tack sharp -Obviously, it's very fast shutter speed due to aperture options -However, there is a slight purple/magenta chromatic aberration in some pictures. -very versatile, from portraits to basketball games -cheap lens but still very good quality photos

Compact, max aperture f1.8

By

from Redwood Falls, MN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought this lens specifically to be used on a visit to St. Petersburg, Russia. I anticipated doing a lot of work inside the many ornate historic buildings where flash is not allowed. It served admirably and continues to do so for general use.

Excellent, Small, Low Light, and Sharp Every Day Lens

By

from San Diego, California

This DX 35mm f/1.8 lens is an excellent value. Its resolution rivals that of FX lenses three times the cost. The image below was taken with a Nikon D40 camera body at a shutter speed of 1/125 of s second, an aperture of f/1.8, an ISO of 560, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.

SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!!

By

from Undisclosed

Although this lens is a prime lens, it is very versatile ! If you are looking for a lens that is compact and can offer a little of everything this is the lens for you. It works beautifully as a macro lens capturing small details. But is tack sharp at longer focal lengths. This is one of my new favorites! I think for the price you really can't go wrong. This is my 5th lens I have purchased from Nikon and its nothing short of amazing!!!

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Evan B  I'm looking for a lens to use to photograph wide angle shots of new houses for a contractor. Do you think the 35mm would be good?
EDWARD C  35mm is not quite wide enough for this use, especially on a DX camera, where the focal length acts like a 50mm lens on a full-frame camera. On a DX camera, you would be better off with an 18-55 zoom lens, many of which also have image stabilization. On a full frame camera, a 24mm lens would be the least wide I would recommend for this purpose.
John A  What warranty comes with the refurbished lens?
KLAUS P S  Nikon's standard warranty for refurbished products is 90 days. Vendors like Adorama offer extended warranties if 90 days is considered to be to short. All my Nikon equipment was bought refurbished (3 camera bodies, 7 lenses and none of the equipment so far needed any repairs.
Shopper  Will this lens work /auto focus etc. on D 3000?
NATHAN O  Yes, this lens will function perfectly fine on a Nikon D3000. Its internal Silent Wave Motor allows for full and silent focusing control, regardless of your DX lens-compatible camera body.
