I use on my Nikon D800 and find it to be an excellent lens that is great in low light. Very light weight.

I use this lens mostly for casual, low light, event type photography where I don't want to dig out the flash gear. I have the 50mm 1.8 which performs admirably but I always had that 1/2 stop envy! When I saw the 1.4 offered as a refurb at a substantually reduced price, I went for it. I'm not sure the new lens improved my photos at all but I feel better about them! It's a great lens for my D700 for all purpose photography.

This is a must have for any photographer. It gives crystal clear pictures even under a low light condition with 1.4 F stop.

I use this lens for low light applications and for portraits where I want the the subject to pop from a well separated, fuzzy background. Matched with a D700 one hardly needs a flash for indoors photography. For portraits, the thin DOF and super sharpness make for sharp portraits with pleasing brokah. Its one of the prime lens standards.

Some time ago I made the decision to get the 50mm 1.8 lens. Ever since I have lusted after the 1.4. When I found it as a "NIKON Refurbished" unit at an attractive price, I bought it. At first I frequently used both the 1.4 and 1.8 and tried to see some obvious difference between the two. I couldn't. I finally decided that the "Brokah" is a little better on the 1.4 so it gets the nod for portraits and the 1.8, having F22, is my landscape choice when I use a 50 MM lens for that purpose. The difference is so slight I feel a little foolish having both...

Great piece of glass for enthusiasts looking to up the ante from the kit lens they didn't know was worthless. It's very affordable and if your camera has the focus motor, it's a bit faster than the AF-G. Gotta love the buttery, delicious bokeh too!
