Favorite Lens!

I comtemplated getting this lens (upgrading my 50 1.8d to this 50 1.8g) for a while and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! I love this lens, it's my go-to lens for almost everything I shoot. The bokeh is great, sharp focus, and it performs very well in low light. I would reccomend this to any photographer!

wouldn't autofocus at first.

By

from McKinney, TX

Just got the lens today and right out of the box I couldn't get it to autofocus on my Nikon D7000. This lens seemed to be a very tight fit when I twisted it onto the camera body. I could manually focus the lens, but couldn't get it to autofocus. After several minutes trying different things I by accident discovered that the lens release button had not popped out after twisting the lens on. I slightly backed the lens off till the button popped out. Problem solved! The lens will now autofocus. Now to see what kind of pictures I can take with this little jewel.

loving the nifty 50..

By

from Bronx, N.Y.  -  Semi-Professional

I'm using it with my D 7000 which makes it a very nice portrait lens.. it's light weight, a lot of plastic but doesn't feel cheap. Can get in close for the tight shots. A fast focus and image quality is great.. Things that aren't so great.....Haven't found any yet..

Perfect Portraits

By

Received this lens in perfect condition! I absolutely love it and have used it for portrait photography. It has very sharp facial focus with beautiful background blur at f4, which is what I mostly use.

Great Product

By

from Oklahoma City, OK.  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Portraits at family gatherings and landscape portraits when traveling are primary uses but not limited to them. Low light photos of indoor parties are great. Focus is fast and bokeh is sufficient for my uses. Saved some serious bucks going with the f/1.8 vs the f/1,4. Save some money and buy this lens. You won't be disappointed. The only bad thing I can say in regards to this purchase is that I had ordered it to use for my Grandsons B-Day party, but the shipping took more than 3 days so I missed that opportunity, and some great photo shots.

Great fast prime lens!

By

from Austin, TX, USA

I got this lens primarily to do head shots for musicians and actors and I couldn't be happier with the results I've gotten. Tack sharp detail, great depth of field for bokeh, and very vivid colors especially in the f/2 range. Light weight and very quiet auto focus round out the best qualities of this lens. If you can only afford one prime lens, this is the one to get.

Awesome lens!

By

This lens is one of my favorite lens I owe. It comes with me on all shoots and is a preferred lens when that focal length works! I use it on my D800 with amazing results. Awesome sharpness and fantastic bokeh, highly recommended lens especially for the price!

Great lens for the price

By

from San Jose, CA, USA

Been using this lens for about 8 years now. I personally didn't really like the 50mm range on the DX, but loved it on my FX. I really like the color this lens brings out, and the bokeh it produces. The only thing I find a bit annoying about this lens is the noise of the focusing when set to AF.

Questions about this item:

Kathy B  Would this lens fit my D5000?
CHARLES L  Yes, It works on the D5000. I use it on my D5100. Just be aware, it is more of a portrait lens on an cropped sensor like ours. It is the equivalent of a 75MM and is very "zoomed in". It is great for head-shots. But if you want the someones entire body in the picture, you have to back way up. Which is not always possible indoors. I use my 35mm 1.8 about 90% of the time and only use this one about 10% of the time. If you are looking for great head-shot portraits, this one if perfect. But if you are using it for more all-around shooting, and you don't have the 35mm 1.8, I would recommend you get that one first. It is about the same cost and also does great portraits. The 35mm is the equivalent of a 50mm on an APS-C sensor like the 5000 series. They are both great lenses for the price!
Shopper  Does it come is original packaging/box?
CHARLES W  No it did not come in it's original box but was well packaged. Appearance and performance have been perfect!
Paul L  Why is the 50mm f1.8 af-s refurbished lens more expensive than the 50mm f1.8 af-s new lens?
JOHN L  mfr rebates
Paul L  Hi John I called Adorama and was told their refurbished lens cost was more because of the shortage of new lenses and the wait to get one. So if you want one right away you have to go with a refurbished lens and pay a little more. Thanks for your reply.
