Great Design with quiet fast focus Can't beat it!

I was looking at the 70-300 when this came along. When I got it i went right out and shot 170 raw photos in dim evening light and there were no issues with this camera's performance. It zooms as fast as you need and the manual override feature is great. It has good balance if not a little heavy but that is what you have to expect with a lens like this. I Highly recommend to all Digital users.

Not worth the $70.00 savings...

Ordered this lens for my D5200, and immediately was disappointed with the focusing and the sharpness of the pictures at higher zooms. Ordered this lens for my D5200, and immediately was disappointed with the focusing and the sharpness of the pictures at higher zooms. I ordered the 70-300vr instead for many reasons including Internal focus, VR2, and the shear speed of the auto focus. Also for the manual focus over ride when in auto focus. Next time I'll do my research more thoroughly.

One of my favorites!

I've used this lens for a variety of situations and it works beautifully for the most part! It works the best in well lit areas when your subject isn't doing a whole lot of moving. The poorer the light and the more movement happening, the longer it takes to focus, even compared to other lenses. I've noticed that, even in good lighting, it has a tendency to actually focus slightly behind the subject, despite the indicator lighting up in the right spots. That being said, I use it for a lot of sports and other action photography, and I still manage to get some great close-ups after making my own adjustments.

Awesome lens - great quality

By

Bought this when I started going to horse shows because I needed something with better zoom.. took it to my second show & was absolutely amazed with the quality of the photos. I'm the type who likes her artsy photos & was quite impressed with how good they looked. If anyone is looking for a zoom lens, I suggest going with this one. Works really well with squirrels & birds in trees too!

Great investment!!!!

By

from Alexandria, VA

I was in need of a lens that would go beyond what my small camera would go. I decided to go for this zoom lens after my 18-55mm lens that came with my D40X completely died. I've had my camera for 6 years and I use it a LOT. Getting this lens reignited my passion for photography. I am not an expert photographer, just like to take good pictures. This lens is awesome. It produces crisp images and complements the camera settings to produce excellent pictures with great colors. I am very happy with this lens. Pros: It is not heavy and it is easy to carry/fit in a bag; great colors; crisp images; zooms to great lengths keeping details. Cons: Closer objects are difficult to photograph, but not impossible (I bought extension tubes to resolve this issue)

Does Everythig I Expected

I use it mostly to shoot theater and it provides the versatility to get scenes and closeups without having to change lenses. The VR helps in the low-light conditions.

Lint inside the main optical lenses

By

from Undisclosed

When I first purchased this lens for my Nikon D7100, I never imagined that I would get a defective lens. There was lint inside the internal lenses with no option to clean them. I would probably ignore a small piece if it was at the edge of the lens but when you have (3) spots of lint in the middle of the lens, quality needs to be improved. This is my first time owning a Nikon product and so far, I'm debating the purchase.
