Love this lens

This is a perfect lens for shooting artwork or jewelry. There is almost no distortion and it is very sharp. On a crop sensor camera it is 90mm equivalent and makes a perfect portrait lens.

Great Macro Lens

Awesome lens. Has really allowed me to take the next step in macro photography at a reasonable price. Works great with my Nikon D3400. Great quality, not too heavy. Totally worth the price.

Great little lens

A great little lens. I’ve won ribbons for images taken with this lens. I had the AF and just purchased the AF-S to go with my Z6. The AF does not work with the Z.

I really like this lens. I had the d version for twenty years and it stopped auto focusing. Decided to try the new version. I focuses faster than the d and has internal focusing. They are both sharp and good otherwise.

Redoing every slide I ever scanned.

I generally use a Nikon 105 macro. I purchased to use with the Nikon ES-1 52mm Slide Copy Adapter. I am blown away by the performance of the lens and the copier. Razor Sharp auto Focus, edge to edge, on the plane of the slide at such a short distance, capture of the existing details in the transparency is amazing. digitizing the slide enables one to use raw and Photoshop to bring out a lot more dynamic range than viewing the original.

Not the fastest, but very good

For the price this is a very nice lens. Because of the focal length I use it for both Macro work and Portraits.

I'm impressed but the bride may want a ring upgrade

OK, I've been using a competitor's macro for the past 2 years and had to send it back for repairs. We have recently switched from C to N so I thought it would be a great time to try a new Nikon macro. The attached image was shot hand held, no tripod, manual focus at about 3-4 inches from the ring. Every cloud, scratch and imperfection can be seen. I'm impressed but the bride may want a ring upgrade.

MY FIRST PRIME, MACRO LENS

I have owned a DSLR for only eight years. I started with a Nikon D90 and in 2016 moved to an FX D610. I have been taking photo classes from a wonderful instructor at a local community college. With my first two cameras all I ever had were zooms. My instructor is now offering a Macro Photo class, so I asked for her advice on a lens. She recommended the 60mm because it is good for Macro work as well as portraits. She thought the 108mm and 85mm were just too limiting in usefulness. I have only shot a few pics with this new 60mm lens and find myself on a steep learning curve. I give a four star only because it does not cook dinner for me.

Good lens, very sharp.

Wonderful lens, very sharp, great macro. Only problem is a little hard to mount to D750. Got an email from Adorama from someone to help with questions, so I will ask about this. Otherwise liking this lens and much lighter than the 105mm.

Perfect for close up

What a great lens! I use it all the time for studio food images and it is just the right length lens. It is a very tight fit though. I have been using SLR cameras since the 80's and it is the highest I have come across. The Adorama assistant said sometimes they are like that...?

A Great Lens to Own

Very sharp images on close-up shots, as well a good lens to use for stand in portrait work. The lens is light enough, as macro-micro lens go, that it can be used as a "walk around" lens. The 60 feels solid and the focus ring has a good feel to it. I have used this lens for close ups of wildflowers to pottery displays in museums with great results. The only tricky part is using it for insect shots, such as butterflies; for this I have stayed with my telephoto. I hope you enjoy your 60 as much as I have!

f/2.8 confusion explained

The prominent negative review for this macro lens cites that it is NOT f2.8 and the owner returned it. Apparently, this user did not know that Nikon, alone among camera/lens manufacturers, shows the REAL effective f/stop in use at close "macro" distances. All lenses are rated for the f/stop at "infinity". But the focal ratio of all lenses increases as you focus on nearby objects. ANY lens (macro or otherwise) that is focused very close to the subject will effectively be operating at a much higher f/stop. On Nikon macro lenses, the REAL f/stop is calculated and shown as you focus closely. All other camera/lens manufacturers just keep on showing the "infinity" f/stop, which is wildly inaccurate at macro focusing distances. This becomes clear if you try to use a strobe and believe the way-too-optimistic f/stop at infinity when at macro distances. It's likely that this macro lens, when wide open but focused at 1:1 could be at f/8 or so. This is the way ALL lenses work. It was misguided to blame Nikon for being accurate. I have three Nikon macro lenses and all of them show the real effective f/stop as you close in on 1:1.

Excellent

I love this lens. I use it for all macro photos but also for portraits as well. It gives very crisp photos as well as excellent bokeh where you want it. Small and easy to carry. Love this...you have to try it to see the results you will get. Worth the price.

Awesome lens!

This lens is super sharp and lightweight. I typically use it for macro photography but is also a great portrait lens. I've had great results when paired with my SB-700 for close up shots of bugs and flowers. You can't go wrong with this lens.

What a thrill!

This lens was recommended for delicate, close-up work and it is great. I have begun to get the feel of the additional weight in my hand. I haven't been able to get outside yet because of the snow to take some close-up shots and can't wait. I am learning as I go so I will update as to the ease of this lens. I bought this as a gift for myself.

A great lens for portrait and close-up

By ccutter

This lens was bought to replace a Nikkor 105 mm lens that I bought 20 years ago and later sold. Now that i am into digital photography i need a similiar lens. This lens is lightweight, slightly "fat" (lens cap size is 62), and provides no means to change aperature adjustment except inside the camera controls. I prefer the manual focus for close-ups because it works well, is faster, and doesn't change as your camera may change its point of view. For full macro you need to get very close to the ...

Blew me away!

By JOHN T.

The first day I got this lens, I tried a few shots and was overjoyed by the clarity. The most amazing shots were of a dollar bill. I was able to get within a couple inches of the bill, and the fine detail astounded me. The images revealed details that I had never imagined in the printing. One warning: as you get closer to the object, the depth of field narrows. When taking photos of the dollar bill, the depth of field was probably about 1 millimeter, which meant that a simple fold in the bil...
