I was able to get better photos on my Android phone versus this lens. Don't waste your money on this lens. I'm sure the other macro lenses that are more expensive are worth the price, but not this one. As stated, I was able to capture better photos on my Android phone.

A lente tem um custo melhor por ser DX. Porem esperava mais da lente. O VR reduz boa parte da vibração mas pra exposição um pouco mais lenta não adianta. Tripe é fundamental. Ate ai a lente estava dentro do esperado.

I recently purchased this lens and am greatly impressed with the quality of the macro images I have taken. It produces crystal clear, razor sharp details at extremely close distances. It is a feature rich lens with vibration reduction and a manual override of the amazingly accurate autofocus. The distance scale is also a reproduction scale display allowing for greater creative control of macro photography. This lens also takes great general photos at 85mm focal length. I am more than satisfied in my purchase of this lens.

I got this lens as part of the macro portrait lens kit for my first 2 lenses (like almost everyone else here), I have to say, not bad, it is a great macro lens that I really use for portraits more than I do macro uses. You do get VR for those beginners without tripods, and 85mm isn't that bad of a focal length, but i found this lens pretty overpriced for what you are getting, if you want a nice macro and don't want to pay as much, I highly suggest the 40mm macro which is far cheaper and just as good, Although I wouldn't recommend this product, it is still very nice and does a great job, but it is just too overpriced. I would like to see this lens cost more like 300-400 dollars, If you want to get this in the macro portrait lens kit, do what I did by getting it when it is ON SALE, that specific kit has a serious drop in price on sales, more than any other Nikon product I know of, so If you want to get the lens kit, you will save a lot of money by getting it when it is on sale.

I am a long time photo hobbyist and have owned a lot of great gear. I got one of these in the two lens special deal, the other being the great 35mm F/1.8DX. At first I was a little uncertain about this lens as I had seen some reviews that were not the best. Well, I say you need to try this lens to appreciate what it can do. I love it! It is an unassuming lens to look at but when you use it the pictures are great. Its actually a lot of fun to use as you start seeing things around you in a different.light as you move in close. The quality of the photos is great too, and I am comparing it to some pretty high dollar lenses I use with my D750, D7100 and D5200. Some want to compare it to Nikon's excellent 105 Macro lens. The highly regarded 105 is about twice the price! One should ask themselves just how good a lens do you really need? Are you a pro who needs the absolute best regardless of price or are you a hobbyist who just enjoys the fun of taking pictures? Some will tell you that they can actually see little difference in photos taken with this compared to the 105. This lens does a very good job. I am very happy with my results with it and feel its a good value at its price point. If money is no object buy the 105 for twice as much. But if you are looking for good value for a amateur photographer this 85mm VR lens pushes all the right buttons. Just look at some of the great sample pictures others have posted. This thing works great! I am happy to say I would buy it again.

Great price for a great lens. Always had good luck with refurbished items. Expect the same here.

Not near the Full Frame, but comparing it to a 2.8 isn't quite fair. I've only had her a few weeks and am happy with what I am getting for what I paid. As always, great service from Adorama. I'd recommend this lens in a heartbeat! Wish my pockets were deeper though. Ya wanna run wide open, ya gotta pay!

I really enjoy this lens for taking pictures of flowers and people. Granted that to get anything beyond a face with an 85 mm lens you need considerable distance, nevertheless the image quality is great and creates a lovely bokeh.

This lens creates a lot of chromatic aberration. In almost every single picture I have taken with this lens, there is a good amount of irritating blue and yellow chromatic aberration. I would recommend this lens to someone who is new and doesn't notice things like this in their images , but for someone who cares about image quality and wants it to be the best possible, i would tell them not to get this lens.

Overall a good lens, was able to bundle purchase with a fast 35mm, so it was real value for two lenses under $500"otherwise I may not have bought a macro or even this one.

I put my Nikon 85mm DX Macro Lens through its paces this weekend. It performed extremely well as both a macro lens and a portrait lens. Its light weight makes it very portable and the optics are excellent. Below is a photo of a Paper Kite butterfly taken at the annual San Diego Zoo Safari Park "Butterfly Jungle" exhibit. The shutter speed is 1/250 of a second, the aperture is f/16, the ISO is 560, white balance is "Flash," and exposure is "Matrix Metering." Also below is a portrait of my grandson at his first T-Ball game. The shutter speed is 1/200 of a second, the aperture is f/3.5, the ISO is 100, white balance is "Auto," and exposure is "Matrix Metering."

This lens is amazing. I've used it for portraits, nature, animals, etc. Photos are sharp yet has just the right amount of bokeh around the focus point. Occasionally will search for focal point, especially in low light, but it's nothing to really complain about. Overall it's an amazing lens to have.

This is my 3rd foray into micro-nikkor lenses, and I just may hang on to this one! With the VR function it is easier to use, however at really close work a tripod is pretty much required to get the best out of the lens. I got it for a D5000, and have since moved to a D5300, and it is so clear and sharp, and the colours are very rich. It helped to adjust the camera to force the lens to a higher f-stop in order to get the depth of field needed for most three-dimensional items, With a little care to the camera work, the final results are certainly worth the effort! I have a list of small valuable items that will eventually get photographed, and I'm looking forward to the results. Attached image is mildly compressed to fit this website's requirements.

I have taken over 400 photos of different subjects at different distances. The details are sharp clean and crisp in all the photos, except those where I failed to hold the camera steady or where I snapped the shutter before the AF functioned. A photo of a pecan laid on a table cloth snapped at a distance of about 12 inches was so sharp that the linen fibers in the threads on the table cloth were visible and all the texture on the pecan was lear. Photos of a rosemary plant at 30 ft showed the texture of the leaves. Color was correct on all subjects. specially nice is a shot of ice covered tree limbs with the sun shining through and a deep blue sky background. I have six other lenses ranging from a 50 mm prime to a 150-500 mm zoom. so far, none of them are superior to the 85mm f3.5.

I knew I wanted a macro lens. It would be my first, and as all my other lenses are Nikon made, I wanted to 'keep it in the family'. Like many, I did my research before committing to a purchase. I chose this, the 85mm after careful consideration and many great reviews on various sites. For a maiden voyage, I took it to a combo flower/butterfly show. How did it fair? Incredible, fantastic, marvelous...need I go on? I won't say every shot was perfect. They never are, right? Yet, when I got home and had the chance to really see what I'd shot on my 27" LED monitor, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. Bottom line? I'm thrilled with this lens! I feel like I've opened the door to a brand new world of creative possibilities. Now go get yours! I'll try to get some of those first shots up soon!

I was looking for an 85 for portraits on my D7000, with the DX crop that would be close to what a 135 would be on a film camera. I also wanted a macro to shoot food and flowers. After some research I decided on this lens. After four months of use I can say it was a good purchase. This is a nice lens that performs well. It does hunt occasionally, the nature of the beast, and when it does I switch to manual focus and move the camera back and forth to get what i want. For portraiture it gives a nice blurred background (I don't like the term Bokeh).

I bought this lens refurbished instead of used because I felt confident that a Nikon technician had gone through the lens and brought it up to "like new" specs. I was wrong. There were light scuffs on the front element and a fair amount of internal dust. Having said that, I took the lens out to a local flea market to photograph people (this IS after all, a people lens). Despite the un-perfect condition of the lens, some of the images I took that day were simply breathtaking. The bokeh is like pure cream. It was back focusing a bit but I fixed that in camera settings. I have decided to keep it "as is"...

I've been playing with different 85mm's to find the one that felt "right" and best fit with my work. I was hoping, of course, that this lens would do the trick because of the cheap price tag, but as a pro wedding photographer, this doesn't really cut it. It's very loud during focusing and creeps. However, in the right situation, the lens is pretty great. It's not the sharpest but it does have a consistant output which is really wonderful. I'll likely keep it for now to see if my mind changes. As of now, though, nothing compares to the nikkor 85mm f/1.4 in my book.

I've owned the 105mm Nikon micro and for true macro photography this is better. I shoot photographs of bugs and trout flies. The ease of use, capture of color, superb image, everything, makes this THE single best macro lens for my kind of work. You can spend more, but if you're shooting in natural light from one to three feet, don't bother looking anywhere else. This is what you want.

The Nikkor Micro 85 mm VR is a great macro lens for the money. Quite sharp with almost no distortion at all. For DX users this is a superb addition to your kit. The VR enables good macro results hand held, and the 85mm focal length is great for general photos and portrait work (as long as you don't need super smooth bokeh). For a modest price this macro lens opens up a whole new world of creativity.

I am fairly new to macro. Recently I found my ground and needed a good lens for a good price. I bought 40mm before this, but the distance was always an issue with me, so I ended up buying this and I know I will never regret this decision. The lens is amazing. The ergonomics are a little slow, but that could be because I am using d3100 with fewer focus points then a pro level camera, but this lens delivers! 1:1 ratio is amazing!! Only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 because, I would have liked to see f 2.8 instead of 3.5. I am learning and growing more into macro photography everyday because of this lens. Very soon, I am planning to upgrade to d7000. I hope this lens works on it. I really do ! If you are like me and make second - third decisions on everything. STOP! This is the right one. Buy this lens if you are serious about macro photography. Expand your horizons and grow. Below are some of my pictures.

I waited a few weeks before writing this review. One to get familiar with the true macro lens and to work out my kinks. I ordered this Nikon 85mm micro lens after many weeks of researching what I should get. I have used all the various attachments, i.e. magnifiers, extension rings, x times filters and the Raynox M-250 ring. Which is great in a pinch. Not to mention the macro feature of a Tamron 70-300 zoom with macro feature. They all do a really good job and I never thought I would see a big difference in an actual macro lens. As the Pro’s say, there’s nothing like a real macro 1:1 lens. I’m now a believer. I struggled with various brands, sizes, etc. Let’s remember everyone has their own specific needs and price range. I actually wanted everything, distance, VR, internal focus, light weight, quality and because of the price, I was hoping to get more use out of this one lens, I did. I must say I almost made the wrong choice for me, but I’m glad I kept thinking about it. After much review and study, the Nikon (Nikkor) 85mm micro lens was the one. It seemed to fit right in the middle of what I wanted, needed and could afford. The Nikon delivers. I use this on a D7000. I have included a few pics for sampling. I found that very helpful when I was researching the various lenses. Although I not sure what size and quality the samples actual post at. The lens is sharp, fast and very responsive. I realize when shooting macro, a tripod is the way to go, but that is fine when you have a setup shot. A spontaneous moment requires that grab the camera and shoot. That’s one of the best features of the Nikon, the VR. The internal focus (so the lens does not get any longer) is also a Great feature. You can be at a very reasonable distance 9-10 inches at 1:1 for a great shot. The Infinity range of the lens takes good shots also, what a nice short telephoto lens. I’m sure going forward I will have more uses for this lens. I won’t go on about the other brands I checked out, and I sure there are good ones out there, but I am very very satisfied with the 85mm Nikkor. I would recommend it to anyone. If I had a Full frame camera, the 105 would have been my choice, but not this time. By the way, the samples I have included were all taken with the camera hand held. Limitation to file size though. I hope this review helps other to make a good decision, and to find the lens right for you.

I use this primarily for photostudies. It was bought so I could get some good close-ups of plants, flowers, insects, and such but once I started doing photostudies of people, well, it opened up a new world.

This lens is an excellent intro lens for those looking to practice micro/macro photography. It is fast, easy to focus, and very accurate. I use it in botanical gardens and have consistently turned out quality captures using the camera in a hand-held, rather than a tripod, shooting method. The lens produces images with great clarity for the price. I've also used it for portraits and it excels there as well, especially when you don't want to be too close to your subject. You can walk it out for landscapes, also. I have used this lens, simply because it is so much fun to use, more than my wide angle and zoom lenses. It opens up a whole new world of artistic expression and composition that you wouldn't suspect otherwise. Highly recommended!

I was super excited to get this macro lens since it's my first legit macro lens. When I found out it finally arrived, I nearly had a panic attack and I sounded worse than that sponge-painting lady whose video has gone viral in the past week. Anyway, I immediately started putting this lens to the preliminary tests and it. is. A.MAZING. I couldn't have asked for a better first macro lens. The newer design of Nikon's lenses are really easy to use and they do the minute focusing for you with just one rotation of the lens instead of having to rotate the outer and inner lens pieces. The range this lens offers is FANTASTIC and the clarity of the photos is DEFINITELY worth your money. It also works fantastically on the M/A function and allows you to manually toggle focus even while you're in auto mode. I definitely recommend this lens for anyone in the market for a macro. The focus is just...beyond amazing. It's worth every single hard-earned penny.

Great lens, love it for portraits. Hate the screw on metal hood. Makes fast lens changes on the go bothersome.

This lens is absolutely FANTASTIC! I love taking pictures of insects, and the amount of wonderful shots I've gotten this spring/summer so far is just amazing. I've never had so much fun. It takes you in close and the picture quality is astounding. I use it with my D3100 (A terrific, user friendly SLR). It's also very light and all the focusing and mechanics is internal so there is no lens movement to scare away potential subjects when you're in close. I will include a few of the shots I've go...
