Nikon Quality Saved My Lens
Hoods have saved my Lens twice when dropped/fallen. Both times I had Nikon Hoods and they took the blount of the blow. It is the quality of the product that was the difference.

Quality Lens Hood
This lens hood is manufactured by Nikon and is an exact replacement for the one that originally came with my lens. It arrived quickly after being ordered. Adorama was extremely helpful, answering my questions prior to placing my order. Thank you Adorama.

Good insurance
The original broke when the lens and camera fell on the floor of the vehicle. By talking the impact this hood saved the lens from damage and is a must for all field photography to protect the more expensive components.

Nikon HB-4B hood replacement
Works as it should. Flips for no shade/storage. Not only does it provide some glare relief, it is great to have in position when using multiple cameras and outdoors to protect those expensive filters.

Performa As Expected
Use hood predominantly outdoors during sunlight hours. Performs the task but should be more durable meaning less sensitive to jarring/breaking as easily particularly conasidering the cost.

Nikon quality lapse
This product is designed to replace the hood on the 70-200mm VRII. It does that, but falls short of the quality of the older VR-I lens hood. It is much thinner material that is easily broken. It will not provide the same level of convenience as its predecessor. It will NOT allow me to stand the lens upright while mounted on the lens. This product has diminished quality and features, as compared to the older product.

Nikon HB-48 Len Hood for 70-200 mm f/2.8
On my China Trip in April 2013, I was felt on slippery granite trail along beautiful Li River , Guilin. My Nikon D800 and heavy tele zoom Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 G AF-S VRII smashed on the granite rock ! Fortunately, the HB-48 lens hood acted as a shield to save my expensive and favorite zoom lens. . However, the hood was broken apart and my left hand holding the camera also got a serious bruise. The hood is also a must to block the glare for my wildlife shot and shield the lens from abuse in almost my back country trips.

Nikon replacement part - works perfectly
Works perfectly, just like the original. What else to expect from a genuine Nikon replacement part? I had to replace the hood because I dropped the lens. The lens hood broke but that saved the lens and even the filter. In addition to shielding the lens from unwanted light, it's a great shock absorber!
