Works with all Nikon F & D Pro cameras (will also work with D810/D850 and other bodies). Most reviews state that it does not work other than Single or Continous modes... but this is not quite correct. Simply set your camera body (such as the Nikon D800) to Self-Timer mode (C3 in Menu), and set the details how you want it to remotely fire (for example: 20 seconds delay, followed by 10 shots, at 3-second intervals). The camera will then begin to count down your set delay function and fire at your pre-set intervals. The ML-3 will also work in conjunction with your in-camera body Delay Timer function and Remote Trigger (Fires instantly or starts countdown Delay) when something or someone moves between ML-3 Transmitter & Receiver infrared beam. Very useful for my professional work. Note: the Receiver swivels around on its axis, to point in any direction. Use a Nikon ML-3 holder or flash arm if you need to also use on-camera hotshoe flash with this unit.

It does what it is supposed to do on my D850, but that's about it. It is overpriced for it's build quality. It is hard to lock the plug on the camera, it's bulky, and the transmitter switch is poor quality and can easily be turned on accidentally. Why I don't know why Nikon didn't just build the IR system into the camera like on the D750 and others. There are loads of these on eBay for 1/2 price and now I know why.

Everything works great, but it has no range. It is bad if you where expecting it to fire off your camera long distances, like for bird watching... I threw it in my box of shame, with the other items that don't work very well. Waste of money again.

The remote control is small and light; and some of its features include ‘auto triggering’ and delayed shutter release and a control labeled ‘C’ which stands for Continuos and a ‘S’ which stands for Single shot. I tested the feature which the remote provides with automatically taking a pic when a subject moves between the receiver and the transmitter; It’s called Auto Trigger mode; Between the transmitter and the receiver, an infrared pointing from the transmitter to the receiver; if anyone crosses the path between the transmitter which should not move and the receiver which stays still as possible as well. I got a couple of shots of birds eating pop corn I purposely left on the floor, but none of the shots impressed me; still, what I learned is that ‘it works’ and I’m confident that if planned better, this feature may provide unachievable shots if we tried our best to approach wild animal subjects. To operate without interference, the ML-3 has to be in a clear ‘line of sight’ to operate without interference, but this is partially solved by sticking one side of Velcro to the top of the receiver and glueing them together; the other velcro side glue it to a part of the camera’s side, and put them hanging together with the receiver pointing towards you; if you must move from your standing location behind the camera, just separate the two Velcroed receiver/camera and reposition the receiver pointing towards where you’ll be as needed. I didn’t notice any interference while using the remote; it responded at the first push of the remote’s shutter button. The transmitter is so well design, that it works exactly like the camera’s shutter button; one light press of the button and it starts the camera’s ‘autofocus’ sensors; then a deeper push to the button takes a picture! This remote control proved mostly helpful when shooting with Micro lenses (I have the 200mm Micro lens) and when shooting with the camera mounted on a tripod; one more thing, to avoid even less vibrations coming into the camera’s body, change the settings to Mirror Up; that way when the picture is taken, the mirror’s vibrations won’t affect the shutter’s moment at all, because the Mirror goes up first, and then the picture is taken. I see many uses for this Transmitter; I also have rechargeable batteries in the remote control (3 AAA).

I have a Canon T3iwhich has infrared built in, repot costs $19, it also has a single pin remote cable, $6.95. I have a Nikon D800, I have to deal with all this expensive extranious equipment. Nikon should do better, and cheaper.... recommended because you have to use it...

The Nikon ML-3 Wireless Modulite Remote allows the unit to be used without worrying about radio interference. The effective range of 8 metres is more than adequate for remote photography of wild games and portrait. The additional features such as automatic triggering and dual channel operation extend the versatility of the ML-3. Now when photographing my Grandchildren, I can be included in the pictures without depending on other people. I would strongly recommend in getting also the SK-7 Mounting Bracket leaving free the camera hot-shoe for flash.

To photo birds upclose with success it helps to set up the camera and flash and back off. This usually means disappear from view. The range of this gadget is not sufficient for many venues.

I bought this product in May 2009 for my D700 camera. It was very much easy to install and put in use. Even though my hands are pretty steady, I found the use of remote extremely useful while shooting landscapes and macro shots. I would definitely recommend this to anybody. My only pick is, I'm not able to find that bracket which can be attached to tripod to mount the sensor.

Earlier in January I had wrote a review and had stated that I had found some difficulty in mounting the reciever part of the remote when wanting to use a pop up flash or a hot shoe mounted flash unit. After working with this remote a bit more and LOOKING MORE CLOSELY, I realized that the reciever part of the remote could be screwed on to a second tripod that could be positioned next to the tripod that the camera was mounted to. I am sorry for any confussion that my other review may have caused. The only thing that I did find a bit disappointing is that it didn't have more range to it and that you had to be so accurate in aiming it, as this might help to aid in photographing birds animals and butterflies. The product does work at the range that it is advertised as being able to work at.

This remote is perfect--it does exactly what is advertised to do, albeit with slightly better range in the field. A trick.... When I'm using my flash, I put some double stick tape on the side and glue the receiver to the flash. That holds it on.

I found some difficulty with the product as far as mounting it was concerned. The reciever part of the remote is supposed to be mounted on the hot shoe mount of the camera and does so just fine. But I found myself scratching my head wondering where I would mount the reciever when I wanted to use the popup flash or a hot shoe mounted flash. I did however manage to rig up the reciever to work in conjunction with the flash, but felt that this might be something that the manufacturer would like to take into consideration for improvement on this product. I also had found that the remote had to be pointed pretty much right on target as far as aiming it right at the reciever in order to activate the cameras shutter.

The ML3 is a great shutter release just plug it in, turn it on and you’re ready to snap photos. I’m using the same batteries that in installed when I first purchased the product. It is small and fits easily in my camera bag. It’s a wireless remote so you’re not encumbered with wires. I don’t know how extensive a range it has but I have never exceeded it. I’ve used it on a D100 and D200 and expect it will work on other Nikon products.

No manual was included with gray market product. Pretty straight forward to figure out on your own however. Comes with pouch to store the remote and receiver. Remote must be aimed directly head-on to the receiver; has a very narrow angle of use. I suspect this is intentional, especially for beam interruption triggering mode. The receiver mounts snuggly in the flash hot shoe and can be rotated and locked for off angle triggering. I've remotely triggered the camera from 30' away. If you frequently setup the camera on a tripod and wish to include yourself in the photo, this product is a must buy and wife approved. A friend uses this to take wide angle "aerial" photos with his camera securely mounted at the end of a 16' collapsing pole. If you are looking for a simple shutter trigger release, this will work, but is overkill. I used this product with a Kodak SLR/n & Nikon D2h.

This accessory is great for family or self pics and covert capture of wildlife. I have gotten 50-60 foot range with it, well over the spec of 30 feet. On the minus side, the remote's battery door tends to slip off. Also, remember to turn off the remote when finished or it will be dead the next time you need it.
