I didn't want a big flash because I love the built in flashes on small format cameras and this flash gives me pretty much all the light I need and I love not having such a big rig and still being professional this flash is great ever I have had images without light.

The SB-300 works great on my Nikon Zfc which has a hot shoe but no built-in flash. The SB-300 easily fits in my pocket and handles most casual shooting situations I encounter, especially fill-flash, when I travel. I have a powerful SB-700 but the little SB-300 gets the most use.

This Great little flash provides a catch light in everyone's eyes in group photos. Looks great on the Z fc. Works best with a soft box or reflector.

I really don't care what anyone says because there are those that will condemn these smaller flash units simply because they won't light an auditorium or allow you to rotate the flash head every direction imaginable. That's not what units like this were made to do. For the record, I do own several much larger and much more powerful flashes but they each have their own place and specific use. The SB-300 is a great flash to carry around for casual photography when you just need some fill light or don't want to carry extra weight. I have found this flash to perform beyond my expectations in some cases. I primarily purchased this to use on my Z6 since they don't have built in flash. For the money, this is a fairly capable little flash. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again if I needed to.

I have a larger speed light but I wanted something easily carried for example when I take my camera into a restaurant for a family celebration. This works fine on my D850.

The perfect flash for fill-in flash on the Nikon D850 which has no built in flash. Easy to use and not heavy or bulky when you're moving around. I'm finding I use it more often than my Speedlight SB-5000 (superb flash) for most ordinary shooting that requires flash.

I use this as a lighter weight flash when I don't want to carry the big flash with me. Works better than the fill flash on my D810 and my D500 doesn't have a flash so I use it on it too. Great little flash for the money, don't waste your money on the cheap 3rd party flashes.

The SB300 works perfectly as a lightweight travel speedlight. It has just enough power in many common situations to allow a bounce flash to diffuse the light. The result is a softer light than what you would see with a popup flash. It won't replace the features found in the larger SB700/SB910 but you're getting this for a different purpose.

This lovely little bounce flash is much much powerful and effective than I expected. The SB-300 is an excellent complement to my D5500. I got amazing results with it, this is why Nikon has an excellent reputation for the reliability of their Speedlight units. Get the SB-300 without a doubt, Once again I am pleased with another Nikon's quality product.

I wanted a small flash to use on a Nikon Df, which does not have a built-in pop-up flash. I have a larger SB600 which works well, but is a bit larger for casual candid shooting. My only con at this point is trying to figure out Balanced Fill operation with the SB300. The manual says it supports BF via camera menu setup, but, neither my Df or my D800E make mention of it in the menus. I'll continue to research that. Otherwise it is a great flash. I especially like the tilt head feature.

Absolutely loved my SB300 speed flash. All my pictures came out super crisp, and really brought new life into my photos. I was super excited how how much it helped my pictures blossom. Unfortunately, Christmas night a year and a couple days after the flash had been purchased (no longer under warranty) it stopped working completely. Very disappointing, all my other Nikkon equipment has held up so well. I wouldn't recommend this to someone because I'm not sure how reliable it is now.

First off, I actually prefer popup flash on my camera - it's easy to turn on and off, and it gives the most natural fill light in my opinion. This flash to me was brighter than my sb600! It was too harsh. It did turn on off and recycle quickly. It does not rotate or allow you to do anything other than fire flash from 2 inches higher than the popup. I needed wide angle lens coverage and this fixed that, but it was too bright so I returned it.

I own a Nikon 1 V1 and this Speedlight reminds me of the original SB-N5 Speedlight for that camera. Like it the SB-300 is small and will fit nicely in my Nikon camera bag at one end. It runs on 2 AAA batteries so unlike the SB-N5 you will need to keep a couple handy at all times. The SB-N5 is powered by the internal battery in the camera. Not so with the Nikon Coolpix P7800 which uses a smaller battery and thus requires external ones for its flash.

I bought this flash for my Nikon P7100 compact so that I could use bounce flash. It only tilts for a horizontal photo. It doesn't swivel for a vertical photo. When I want to shoot a vertical, I shoot as a horizontal and then crop it as a vertical. It works very well. I also use the SB-300 as a travel light flash. I throw it in my bag instead of my bigger heavier SB-600.

This Speedlight does really fit into your shirt pocket easily. I don't even know I'm carrying it till I need it. So far it has preformed well in various light. The first time I tried it I took 5 pictures of the same indoor scene using the 5 different (straight and bounce flash) angles to compare and was impressed with the results. However, I am not a professional photographer so I suggest trying it for yourself. I like it.

Nikon SB-300 AF Speedlight
Take control of the lighting around you with this compact Speedlight for D-SLRs and accessory-shoe equipped COOLPIX cameras. Find new inspiration: use the 120 Degree tilting head to bounce the flash off a nearby wall or ceiling (bounce flash), eliminate unwanted shadows on your subject (fill-flash) or illuminate a poorly lit scene with a soft, balanced light tailored to your shot.
Lighting simplicity
The right lighting can transform an everyday shot into an extraordinary memory. Even if your camera has a pop-up flash, an external Speedlight provides capabilities and control that every shooter can appreciate so much more than simply illuminating a dimly lit scene. The compact, lightweight SB-300 AF Speedlight makes it easier than ever to harness the power of a Nikon Speedlight. With its simple operation, excellent performance and approachable price tag, theSB-300 AF Speedlight belongs in the camera bag of every D-SLR or accessory-shoe equipped COOLPIX owner. Take control of the lighting around you.
Soft, balanced lighting with fill-flash and tilt capabilities
With the SB-300 AF Speedlight, you'll enjoy a flash that's soft and balanced for excellent color, skin tones and lighting throughout your entire composition not just on your main subject. Use it in bright situations to fill in unwanted shadows (fill-flash), or use its 120 Degree tilt capability to bounce your flash off the ceiling or a nearby wall for even softer, less direct lighting on your subject (bounce technique).
Lighting tailored to each shot
Nikon's i-TTL (intelligent Through-The-Lens) flash coverage technology tailors the characteristic of the flash to the shot. An imperceptible pre-flash fires milliseconds before the main flash to gather information about the scene shadow areas, subject distance and reflectance. Your i-TTL capable camera and the SB-300 AF Speedlight then work together to achieve the best exposure and white balance setting possible, all in a fraction of a second.
