CATHY S : Have a Norman 400b and am looking for a frame to use with my canon 60d have any recommendations?ANDREW R : The lamphead portion of the 400B should work with most frames, we have a wide variety to choose from here: http://www.adorama.com/l/Lighting-and-Studio/Flashes-and-Slaves/Camera-Flash-Brackets?sel=Compatibility_Digital-and-Film-Cameras
Tom S : Can I use this bracket without setting the flash to slave setting? Is that what HOT means? thank you, TomBill T : H.O.T means Hand On Top. This is the typical way one would shoot portrait mode. Many of the flip brackets end up orienting the flash to force you to flip the camera where the shutter release would be down, which is not a natural position. You can use the flash just as it normally operates on your camera by using a TTL cord (similar to the one indicated in my reply) This allows you to use all functions of the flash exactly as if the flash were on your hotshoe.ANDREW R : H.O.T. Stands for "Hands On Top".

Strong bracket, weak hotshoe mount

I purchased this bracket for an event and for the price I thought even it is just lasts me the event that would be worth it. The bracket itself is strong although about an hour into my event the hotshoe Mount (the non-adjustable side) became loose and my flash fell out of the hot shoe mount. Luckily I was standing near a wall and it fell into the wall instead of crashing to the floor. I wasn’t able to use the bracket for the rest of the event because I didn’t have a screwdriver with me. When I got home I was able to tighten the screws and use it for another event the next weekend. I would suggest updated the hotshoe Mount and screws and having a screwdriver with you.

GREAT H.O.T. camera flash bracket!

Love the bracket! It was the first one I had found that fit my full frame camera WITH battery pack on bottom! This is great for doing event shooting and portrait shots when outdoors, or at events. Well worth the money!

Awesome Flash Bracket! ! !

Bought it for a last minute wedding I had to shoot [...] after using it for a night this bracket is all the bang for the buck if you're on a budget! Personally didn't like that the grip was on the right hand side and that the flash would be directly above, so I pulled out my screw driver and started customizing it! It was great- I reversed the whole thing and turned it inside out! The grip was on the left hand side allowing me to grip and shoot my camera with my right hand and hold the grip with my left hand just like the old press cameras with flash gun style grips. I made the arm turn away from the camera to my left. . . so that it looked like an egyptian arm . . . and also adjusted the height to be taller as well as the cam body position to sit further back in comparison to the bracket arm so it would not interfere with the speedlite when ever I switched to vertical. I was also able to place a tripod plate (via the multiple screw holes on the bottom of the L shaped grip) on the bottom, allowing me to place it on the tripod for special shots w/o having to take it off the cam body to replace the tripod plate... which would have been very cumbersome and timely. As far as the foam grip goes... I don't know how long it will last if you're a heavy user, but I have to say it was a pleasure to hold and comfortable as hell to work with on an 18 hour wedding shoot!!! I have to admit it made all the difference and my rig felt really light!

I strongly recommend this product. . .

Very handy to use, good fit for a Digital Camera with battery mounting.

It's better than what you paid for

I used this bracket to eliminate harsh shadows on my subjects when holding the camera vertically at a wedding. This was an inexpensive solution for anyone on a budget. It is sturdy and does what it's supposed to. The hotshoe that comes with it seems a little clunky but it's simple to remove and replace with your own.

Not what i had in mind

I use the Nikon D300 which is a heavy camera and the bracket handles the weight and size very well. However, I found it very hard to focus and keep the camera level. I should have gone with the swivel type bracket.

An Alpha bracket from Omega

This bracket nicely coordinates my Nikon D300, 18-200/3.5-5.6 VR, SB-800 and the SC-29 flash cord. While FlashFlip H.O.T. comes with a very good quality flash shoe, in fact what you'll do is remove that shoe, then directly mount the distal end of the SC-29, using a 1/4-20 screw, facilitated by a rubberized patch that prevents rotation of the SC-20 shoe, all of which barely takes a minute. The "H.O.T." or "Hands On Top" orientation is much easier on your wrist than the other way. There is plenty of clearance between the edge of the bracket, and the grip area of the camera. Moving the flash from one position to another is quick and easy. The large cork mounting area has a tacky finish that hold the camera body nicely, and the screw mount is easy to use. One can use the rubber cushioned vertical portion of the bracket as a carry handle for the rig, which, including a Gary Fong "Cloud" diffuser and cap, weighs two ounces shy of six pounds. I think it would be fine with the D700 and 24-70/2.8 as well, a rig I calculate would top out an an even seven pounds. Of course, if you are going to be working in an interior area with walls usable for bounce, you would be better off going that way, getting much softer light, and directly mounting your flash, using one of the Fong diffusers, but if your assignment is outside, or in an area with cavernous or dark ceilings, a bracket rig like this one supplemented by a diffuser is necessary. In the Greek alphabet, "omega" is at the end, whereas "alpha" is at the start. If alpha denotes the best, then this Omega is an Alpha!

Right out of the package

Very light weight, stands up by itself with camera and 18-200mm lens on it. Totally intuitive movement. Bracket handle on right side but out of the way giving room to handle and shoot with right hand and frees the left side of camera to zoom and focus with your left hans totally unabstructed. More simple and ecconomical than the high end brackts but works just as well. I love mine and would recommend it to anyone.

Good, but could have been better

On-camera flash often achieves less-than-desirable results. Because the flash head is small, close to the lens/sensor and is located to the side in portrait orientation, problems such as red-eye and unsightly shadows may appear. And while shoe-mounted flash reduces these unwanted effects by enlarging the light source and increasing the flash-lens distance, it does not completely solve problems caused by the side-of-lens position. Enter: flash brackets. Brackets, with the aid of a TTL cord, further increase the flash-lens distance and also allow the flash to remain centered above the lens whether shooting in landscape or portrait orientation. The increased distance also avoids the shadows cast by longer lenses. Of the two types of brackets (flash-rotating and camera-rotating), I found the flash-rotating models more economical. Unfortunately, many of them rise to left of the lens, meaning that you would have to rotate your camera to the right (shutter button nearer to the ground) which is more uncomfortable to me, at least. So I looked for an affordable model that rises to the right. This HOT (Hands On Top) bracket works wonders! It is dependable, sturdy and allows for the traditional hand position in portrait orientation. It can accommodate small-to-medium sized cameras. (I use a Canon XT/350D, but I'm sure it can hold an additional battery grip as well.) A great product overall, but it did have some drawbacks. The bracket is quite large so you need to transport it in a bag with huge compartments; a folding HOT bracket would have been much better. Additionally, since it is sturdy, you might want to keep it away from your scratch-sensitive equipment. Also make sure that the shoe-mount is secured tightly or else a heavy flash might drop off. In my opinion, though, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Great Flash Bracket

This is an outstanding flash bracket and it exceeded my expectations. I was a little hesitant because I couldn't find much documentation on this bracket but I'm glad I gave it a chance. It is easy to use, very solid, comfortable, and you never had to worry about it becoming loose. My Canon XTi with battery pack fits nicely plus there are adjustments that you can make it larger or smaller. Prior to this, I had a Stroboframe Camera Flip. I liked the concept of the camera rotating (allowing your hand to remain on top) but in reality, the Stroboframe camera flip doesn't work well. Everything is fine if you're holding the camera body in your right hand and the flash bracket in your left. The problem, however, comes when you move your left hand off the bracket to zoom the lens. The weight of the bracket (now unsupported) makes the camera begin to flip unintentionally. You won't have to worry about those issues with the Omega Flip Flash. You can still have your hand on top, for portraits, and you don't have to worry about the frame becoming loose.

• The FF400 FlipFlash H.O.T like the other flash flips allows for horizontal and vertical shots keeping the flash high and centered above the lens. In the Vertical mode, this bracket lets you shoot the way you would normally with your "hand on top" of the camera which is the most popular way to shoot verticals. The platform base supports larger camera bodies and allows the entire assembly (camera, flash and bracket) to stand up on it's own.
