well collimated out of the box. Decent focuser but could use an upgrade to a helical as with most Maks Well priced for amateur use. Not suitable for photography unless you have ability for long exposure times- high F.R. Very good alternative between an achro. refractor or cumbersome Dob. for portability & optic quality but a little more expensive - good resale value

The Orion 150mm Mak-Cass Telescope Optical Tube opens up new vistas of the celestial landscape for your viewing pleasure, putting superior resolving power at your disposal. The 150mm-diameter Maksutov-Cassegrain optics take in 40% more light than their 127mm counterparts, which means this big Mak will resolve finer detail in lunar and planetary subjects and permit exploration of a wider array of deep-sky objects. The meniscus lens is fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission.
The long focal length of 1800mm (f/12.0) belies the scope's compact tube, which measures just 17" long (including visual back on rear cell), for excellent portability. It couples to the SkyView Pro mount's equatorial head via a dovetail rail, allowing quick setup and take-down. The mount provides precision equatorial control and accepts optional TrueTrack single-axis and dual-axis DC drives. The sturdy aluminum tube is outfitted with metal front and rear cells. It features a large helical focusing knob, a threaded visual back that accepts a 1.25" diagonal or camera T-ring, a dovetail finder scope mount, a dovetail rail for attachment of the tube to an Orion SkyView Pro mount (or Celestron CG-5) and dust cap.
