Questions & Answers

PHILLIP T : What is the correct shutter speed when using this meter??CORNELL M : It works with any shutter speed. That is one of the things you input to calculate shooting settings.ALBERT W : Shutter speed is set by the flash sync speed of your camera. As a general rule of thumb, a focal plane shutter (most SLR's ) Is a 60th to 125th of a second, and a leaf shutter (very high end camera) is any setting with 125th of a second used the most. Remember it 8s when the flash unit fire is the total amount of time the camera (CCD or film) is exposed and what the flash meter is calculating. Flash meters are only used for a very quick, and bright light source.PHILLIP T : I found this online. Hope it helps answer this question But flash is not affected by shutter speed. Flash is a near-instantaneous pulse, possibly 1/1000 second duration, or speedlights are perhaps much shorter, but much faster than our shutter speed duration. Therefore, regardless if our shutter speed is 1/200 second, 1/60 second, or 1 full second, the flash does all it can do in perhaps 1/1000 second, or even much less. The shutter merely must be open when the instantaneous flash pulse happens. It simply does not matter to the flash exposure how much longer the shutter might stay open after the flash stops - the flash already finished long ago. The significance of this is that shutter speed is simply NOT a factor for normal flash exposure. Shutter speed does not affect regular flash exposure.
dave h : Is this meter good for a beginner and will ill work well later on?Alan G : I cannot respond to the longevity part of the question at this time since I have only had one for a few months and it has not seen extensive use. Whether it is good for a beginner can depend on how you would use it. It seems to work well inside, but if I take mine outdoors, even on a cloudy day, it always indicates f/32 which is the highest reading on the meter. If you need to balance ambient daylight with flash, then you need to spend more money for a better flash.GINO M : Not good at all...Don't waste your money!..the one I bought stopped working for no reason 3 months after purchase...ended up in the trash
eduardo v : can you set exposure speed or it is fixed?, thanksErik P : The exposure can be setGINO M : You can set the iso to what ever your using the meter will tell you what /f stop you should be at for the amount of light it detects. I had to recalibrate the meter using the light meter in my camera and the histogram because the meter was about two stops off from the camera's light meter. But once recalibrated it works well for what it isDEBORAH W : Your shutter speed should always remain at 1/60th when using a flash kit, big or small. So set your camera to the ISO you would like to use, then test your flashes with the Light Meter, the flashing light will tell you what Aperture you should use. Lastly set the aperture on your camera. 1/60, iso, aperture in that orderANDREW R : Do you mean ISO or shutter speed? ISO is adjustable, however the shutter speed does not appear to be adjustable. Generally speaking, with flash photography, aperture, not shutter speed, controls the exposure for your subject.

total waste

it is not very user friendly at all and not good for beginners. No user manual came with it either so you are not sure exactly how this particular meter works. Battery doesn't even fit into the compartment either.

Quality control where are you?

I bought a "like new" used one. The ready light lit up but nothing else worked. Next, I bought a new one. It had a good ready light too. Also it gave readings of f/22 or f/8 ...sometimes but then sometimes no. The first one really was "like new" because both had battery compartments that didn't fit the battery and neither had detentes for most ISO settings. Construction quality would be bad for a cheap plastic toy. I would highly recommend this piece to someone I hate.

Indicator lights are hard to see.

Hard to indicator lights and almost impossible to see in bright sun light. To some effeort to get battery in and takes a lot of effort to remove incident cap.

Great meter for the money

The battery cover was a little difficult to get back on when battery was installed, but not a deal breaker. This meter worked well, and a great bang for the buck.

Interfit FM-01 Meter

meter not accurate at close range < 8 feet 9-volt battery does not even fit into battery compartment. You'd think Quality Control would have caught that.
