About Photoflex

Although the extra small LiteDome® is the smallest kit in the LiteDome® line, it makes an enormous improvement in results for the event, portrait or editorial photographer who uses ShoeMount flash.

The LiteDome® extra small mounts onto any camera flash bracket with a 5/8 inch stud and enables photographers to immediately step up from the amateur look of harsh on-camera snapshots to soft broad-source lit photographs. The improvement is striking.

The extra small LiteDome® Basic Kit goes beyond quick handheld shooting applications by including our MultiClamp for easy mounting onto any 5/8 inch stud such as LiteStands, GripJaw, LiteReach, numerous Photoflex® swivels and mounting hardware from other manufacturers. The ShoeMount MultiClamp accepts a variety of Photoflex® SoftBoxes, all of which deliver the look of controlled, off-camera studio lighting to photographers who work with battery powered flashes.

Portable, soft light

I'm quite pleased at the softness of the light. It makes good use of shoe-mount flash power, since the light is focused into a small area, rather than spread out wide like in an umbrella or larger softbox. I like the decision of NOT having a secondary diffusion baffle (like those in a lager softbox), because illumination is already even across the surface, and adding a baffle would eat up some light power. It's very small and light. I never needed to disassemble it, since it doesn't take a lot of storage space anyways. The small size makes it easy to mount on a boom as a hair light, or to use outdoors on windy days. I like the flash mount that accepts different flash heights, especially for those people using a hot-shoe adapter for triggering the flash. The screw that allows height adjustment is a bit too small though, so when tighten by hand without tools, the flash is a little wobbly. One of the thumbscrew has a hole on the bottom that allows mounting the whole softbox to a lightstand or flash bracket.

Good for the money, a bit flimsy,

I like this pack overall. When i received i got two of the small flash brackets, and i thought how funny that was, well next day opening the bag the piece drops and the screw that tights the flash brakes apart, it may be replaced but thanks i got the other one haven't tried, i'm more careful now, it wasn't a big fall so i find it a bit fragile. Next you have to tighten the flash as most as you can and make sure that it worked out, i dropped a flash for not tighten hard, although i feel like i...

Next you have to tighten the flash as most as you can and make sure that it worked out, i dropped a flash for not tighten hard, although i feel like i could tight to much and break the piece (the bracket not the shoe). Once tight your flash is safe. The other thing is that the aluminum sticks are a bit fragile, if you don't tore it a part carefully the bend a bit to much, what worries me when straighten them back to normal, cause it feels that it could be brake. So at the end is loads cheaper than the lastolite, but not that cheap. The effects that i got, is as expected from a softbox this size, hard but soft. Really cool look.

Not really too difficult to assemble, takes a few minutes. Seem to work very well with my flash units.

It's ok.

The build quality is really cheap and I can tell it won't last long. If you're going to use it a lot. Save your money. Over prized product.

This is My Second One

By

from Puerto Plata, D.R.  -  Pro Photographer

This is my Second unit. I uses almost every time on wedding and fashion photography as my principal light. I use with a big Flash Head Sunpak 622. Is not necessarily get additional items to setup as main light. Cons.: Diffuse so much. Is difficult to use on hard sun lights (as 12:00p.m.). I always use to mix lights, ambiance and flash light. I use in all my weddings and editorial photography as main. Better use at night.

Great product!

By

from Indiana  -  Photography Student

I've not used it extensively, but it appears to be decently durable. If you were going to use it a lot, I'd probably spring for something a little more expensive/heavier quality. I don't own a light stand so I use my tripod, which works pretty well for the time being. I'll probably be getting a light stand in the near future. Overall it's a great product!

Not bad for the money

It's a super easy to set up softbox on the fly. I've used it a lot for quick portraits during weddings. I'd like to get something bigger but for the speedlights its great.

I used this product to soften and spread the light from my SB-800 while its off camera. This products works as designed and is very easy to move into position when used with a light stand or boom.

DESE C  Hi - any experience using a Canon 430 strobe ?
JESSE K  Hello, I have used this with 430, 420, 550, and 580 I and 580 II strobes. It fits okay and works with all models. Obviously the output from the 430 is less so it may not be ideal for lighting large groups or subjects, especially if it is your primary light source, but it is fine for smaller subjects/groups or when used as a secondary light source (as fill light or along with other strobes. I have used a few different small softboxes and this one is my favorite. It packs up small, is light weight, and secure when in use
