Excellent value, and works beautifully to spread out the light from a flash for evenly lit portraits. Nice construction, I'm sure will last a long time.

Was exactly what I needed. Like the portable size, and can fit in my portable lighting kit. The umbrella is durable and very lightweight too.

Seems to be a very nicely made umbrella. I am a student a N.Y.I.P. And i purchased these two umbrellas for my portrait photography course. Adorama, really had excellent customer service with this order. And would definitely buy from them again.

I like soft light sources, the bigger the better. In much of my work, however, big umbrellas and soft boxes are just too big for the limited space available on location. When that happens, I turn to a small umbrella. I've carried a 30" umbrella with me for over 30 years. That umbrella was destroyed recently in an outdoor location session mishap. I bought two of these to replace it, and have been very happy with them. If you need a small umbrella at a reasonable price, this is your best bet.

Absolutely a quality product for the price. Should be sealed around the center hole with some kind of sealant to prevent unraveling; a plastic washer would also help. Other than that would highly recommend.

I have had a Photoflex umbrella since the mid 1980's. It is still operational. Even though I tend to baby my gear, I expect this umbrella to perform as well, if not better than my old one. I love that I can either bounce or shoot through it for a softer look. There are more expensive products on the market, but the whole point is the versatility vs cost of these. Great product, without worrying about replacement cost.

It’s not flawless, but it’s good enough. A big weakness is some material quality choices throughout the umbrella. For example the slip cover, is a cheap vinyl pouch that also serves as the retail package. Also the metal tips that hold the black-out backing to the ends of the ribs are sewn to the backing material pretty cheaply. They’re not going to hold up to regular use. But... otherwise this thing gets the job done. Easy as cake to deploy. Just as easy to pack up. And it doesn’t weigh a lot. There aren’t any horrendous gaffes or design flaws I can find. Either spend the money on top of the line material and workmanship or get this where some cost-cutting shows and it gets the job done.

I love the smaller size of this umbrella. I used it last weekend for league softball pics. Very sturdy and great light spread!

Great value. The end cap actually screws off to secure the black umbrella. Used as a shoot through with an alienbee and gave consistent even light. Great for full body shot.

Great, large, soft umbrella with white satin reflective surface (which I prefer to shoot-through). Gorgeous lighting without too much specularity.

This is a well made umbrella that can stand up to my level of use, but I only do studio work now and then.

Like most of these reviews, it must be taken with the caveat that I've only just received my umbrellas and used them a handful of times, but thus far they seem to be what I've come to expect from Photoflex. They're not the cheapest or the most expensive but seem to ride that sweet spot of quality at a reasonable price. They seem well built and have thus far provided great results. Definitely recommend.

When I purchased this Phitoflex Convertible Umbrella I didn't think I would get the quality I received from it. Now its one of my favorite modifier's. Now I'm thinking about purchasing the diffuser to go over the reflector portion of the umbrella.

I was looking for an affordable light reflector that would soften the harsh light from my Nikon SB-800. I tried to look into the 30” version for its low price but when I had a look at it than I did not feel comfortable and I asked for a bigger one which is this 45” version. I am glad that I did. I even brought a Photoflex 45” diffuser later on. I did some test shots with and without diffuser and both were great. They both shown the difference in lighting as well. I would recommend this product for a beginner as well as professionals. Especially for the price that you can’t beat.

I bought one of these umbrellas sometime ago from Adorama. I'm a keep it simple 'one light / one reflector' kind of guy. But I like this umbrella so much I wanted a second one - just because. I'm sure there will be moments to be a 'two lights' kind of guy! Who knows? In the future I might go for three! Thanks Adorama.

I really like the light quality even though it's a bit softer than expected for a silver umbrella. I should have known since it is also shoot through, the shoot through feature is nice and it works but it also dumps a lot of light into the room since you shoot through the silver side. Used normally it requires significantly higher power compared to a typical silver umbrella. For portraits its a great fill light. I also like the look for product shots. I used them on a shoot and was happy with the results. I knocked it down a star because the umbrella rod bends a little when mounted and the end is not rounded which makes it a bump hazard if it's at eye level.

This umbrella is worth every penny. I have used it add a with ease. The build quality is stellar and when folded its so small it fits in my rolling bag. I'm going to buy a 2nd in the next size up. I highly recommend it!

Before photography was invented, painters had their studios fitted with big north light windows because they wanted their subjects lit by a large light source. Why? Best way to get low cost soft light!
By Griffin P.
If you are a beginner (or a pro for that matter) by all means skip the smaller umbrellas (unless you work in small spaces or do headshots with them). This is the tool to get. Keep it within 5 feet of your subject and use your flash barebulb and you can get light quality as soft as a softbox. Yes I said that! This tool makes it easy... and cost effective! At this size 5ft away this will cover a full body pretty well.[...]
Quality umbrella
By Four F.
I bought a couple of these umbrellas to replace some older worn out umbrellas that need to be retired. I was very pleasantly surprised when they arrived. They constructed this umbrella very well. This is not a flimsy low end umbrella. Great quality. This is also my first purchse of a Photoflex product and I'll likely be looking at more of their items now since I can confirm on the quality of their equipment. I'm using them with Alien Bees B800 strobes and they work perfectly. I know I ca...
