Low cost. But you can't tell from the materials or workmanship. All around, this works as it should. I haven't had a chance to test the Max range, but I am fully satisfied with these. Much better than the Cactus junk these replaced.

I'm on assignment and my old model pocket wizards book first class berthing aboard the failboat so what do I do? I grab a couple sets of these from a local dealer and get back to work. No massive cash drop. No worry about unreliable wire connections. They work great for what I needed, which was portable softbox type portraits, and action shots in an area smaller than a high school gym. The only CON is that I lost a reciept to return a $30 locking cable for the failed old pocket wizards.

I've only used this for a few sessions, but they haven't missed a shot yet. I was able to mount the receiver to the light stand under my flash and it held pretty well. It would be better if the foot was metal instead of plastic, but so far it is holding well. It is going to flex a bit if you mount a small softbox to your flash, and I wouldn't put too much weight on it, but it is stronger than it looks.

Affordable, and great quality. I have been looking for a trigger/receiver combo that would not fail me as my last 3 other brands had. 'Why Phottix and not PocketWizard?' you may ask... the simplest answer is that I do not use my flash enough to warrant buying a PW set. Upon doing research I found Odin to be one of the best, but for the price and how little I use my flashes it would be like buying a PW set, so Ares came to mind as an affordable alternative to both Odin and PW. The build quality is good, and feels quite sturdy. The receiver and transmitter both take AA's, and since I have a ton of rechargeable ones for my flashes this is a PLUS. When testing two flashes with this combo and another receiver it went smoothly. It did not skip a beat triggering the flashes. The pouch that comes with this combo is also big enough to hold another receiver. I am very impressed with Phottix, and this set.

Works great at firing studio and speedlite flashes. Great PRICE. Plastic is a little cheap but not terrible. Cons: The transmitter takes 2 AA's and it's sort of heavy unless you use lithiums. The channel does not lock in place and the buttons are easy to touch and change. You can put the transmitter on send all (10) channels which is good.

I was a little apprehensive about buying this product after reading about how some people felt that these were a bit 'plasticky' and not great quality but at this price I thought it was worth the risk to buy the set...and boy am I glad that I did. The set comes in a good quality holder that can be attached to my backpack or belt loop, and the set up and use of these couldn't be easier. I have been using this set and an additional receiver to trigger my speed-lights and some studio lights to take portrait and product photos. You can be sure that these will work each and everytime...i used to take these types of pictures relying on Nikon's built in flash trigger for my speedlights but found that this was unreliable in certain circumstances and needed 'line of sight' whereas with these I do not need to worry and can be more creative with my photography. Thank you Phottix for a great product!

Has'nt failed me yet. These are my first radio trigers and love the flexibility they give me to create better images. Tested them at 3oo' away and fired every time. The buttons are of low quality but they function well. Will be buying more recevers soon. Used with Canon 5d mkii / 430EXii
