Questions & Answers

Gary s : I'm using a canon rebel t3i and have 2 flash 430EXII. So i guess i need the phottix strato 5 in 1 for canon and another receiver for canon. But i also do have a Nikon SB600 and i also would like to use it. So if i buy a thrid receiver that would be made for nikon can that be connected to the transmiter for the Canon camera ? Or do i need to still buy a canon receiver that will still fire the nikon flas but wont be able to be use in TTL mode ? Well i hope it does make sense.JERZY A : this system doesn't work TTL, after couple time used because it was poorly designed- flash fulcrum is moved forward causing the system disintegrates. NOT RECOMMENDED, Jerry AmberTHERESA G : Gary, the Canon receiver will definitely fire your Nikon flash. I recently bought a used SB600 and had the exact same question. It fired every time. I've had the Phottix Stratos for over a year and used them extensively - very satisfied with the product.WILLIAM A : Your question makes sense but unfortunately I can't answer it. If you I were to guess I would say it would not work. I suggest go to the phottix website. If you don't find the answer there, you might be able to contact them thru email and ask them. KEVIN D : Yes, the Strato II for Canon will work on your Nikon flash. However, you will lose the ability to wake the flash up remotely after it shuts off after long periods of inactivity.. You will have to do that manually. No TTL capability either if you mount a flash on top of the transmitter.
Shopper : Will this work with a mix of speedlight brands. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark ii and have a Canon speedlight, but I also have a Pentax speedlight. Will it work with both speedlights at the same time?BLUESKY S : love these triggers. switched from pocket wizards and MUCH more consistent. I can not think of any reason why they would not work with various flash units..ROBERT C : I bought 3 triggers and a transmitter but the bases are Canon specific. If you had the proper trigger for the particular speedlight base it should work as the frequencies are the same.ERIK H : Honestly, I'm not sure. If I were to guess, I would say yes. The only thing is that you can attach the transmitter to your camera hotshoe and put your Canon flash on top and you will maintain TTL for that flash (but not the remotes). If you used the Pentax instead, you wouldn't have TTL at all. That being said, I'm really not certain if the Pentax would work at all. I'm just guessing that it will.CARLOS H : Yes! and any other brand. I have mixed my Canon Speedlights with an old Pentax AF-500 FTZ and a Metz 33 CT3. I use those flashed for rim light and background illumination. Remember you are using manual mode, not Auto or E TTl. Do not trow away your old flashes.KEVIN L : I used with both Canon Speedlight 430EX and 580EXII and they work. However, I have a Bower flash and it doesn't work. Don't know about Pentax.
Shopper : Does it works in a Canon EOS Rebel t4i?PATRICK E : Yes. And never miss a bit. Great product, I tell you.DANNY G : I think so , since that it also a canon, cause i use it on canon 40D.WLADYMIR H : Hello! I have a Canon 5D, and it works very well with it. I could not tell you if it works with the Rebel T4i. Good luck!KENNETH S : Not sure. I use the Canon 50D, The work great for the price.JANE B : Don't know, but it works fine on a Canon 7DADIS L : Yes it does. It works on all new Canon models. KEVIN L : It works on my 5D mark III

Easy to use and consistent

I’ve used these for years at weddings and events for triggering slaves and love them—they’re easy to use and consistent. Unfortunately, I’ve had to replace the transmitter once every five years or so, which I’m ok with, but it is annoying when it finally starts dying on the job (which is why I always have more than one on hand). I wish they would sell the transmitter by itself as the receivers seem to last longer, but I understand why they don’t. Overall, I would recommend this and buy again.

I recommend Phottix.

I purchased two sets of these after needing to replace one transmitter of my PW brand. I initially tried Phottix because other well known photographers in the industry use them. And secondly because they are very affordable. I recommend Phottix to other pros. I am a seasoned photographer and wish I would have tried these in the very beginning.

Ok, want to see better for the price and other reviews

Trigger works well, sometimes misfires but does work a far distance away and once you configure the right settings it should work. Have had times where it will just not fire although the trigger is testing alright, if that makes sense.

Nikon issue

I purchased these without doing the research available. I shoot Nikon and it seems the hot shoe on the Nikon D750 allows the unit to slide in just a tad too far for the connection pins to align properly. I have to pull it back about 1/32 inch to get the locking pin to seat. it's a bit annoying but the units work well once I get them properly seated. This is a Nikon problem so do your research to make sure they will seat properly with you camera. Google it!

Very recommended

These are great. I do wish they used more plastic on the trigger since I do break them regularly at weddings. That said, I haven't found a better trigger, so I'll keep on buying them.

My favorite so far

Use these in all my weddings, events, and portrait sessions. Simple and reliable. Much more user friendly for basic off-camera lighting than Pocket Wizards, although I still keep some of those for more complex setups. My only issue is they could be more robust. I have to replace the transmitter every so often because the weight of the on-camera flash attached to the top (for receptions, etc.) eventually breaks the transmitter mount. Luckily, relatively inexpensive.

Pretty good value

Actually, for the price, works well. The only downside is that the attached flash must be adjusted at that flash and not from the camera.

Cost effective, easy to set up, and rock solid trigger.

Great trigger. Very reliable. I have pocket wizards and always struggled to get the system sync’d. This is a no brainer at a fraction of the cost. If you shoot manual and need a reliable trigger system for back fill at an event/Reception this is the product to get. My second shooter also has the same set and he just goes on a different channel. We can easily use each other’s systems if need be. Wish I had bought these years ago.

Works like a charm!

I bought these because my Pocket Wizards stopped communicating with each other, at first I was going to use them as a back-up, but have now become my go to triggers. No issues with them yet, great price.

Trust worthy flash triggers!

This is my third pair of these triggers that I've bought. That's how much I love them. I use to use pocket wizards, but they had so many issues and I heard that these didn't have the firing problems as PW. So I tried them out and they're amazing. I've never had a problem with miss firing and it's so easy to shoot with an on camera flash too unlike PW. I've been using them for about 3 years now and have been loving every minute of use with them. The BIG plus is that they're cheap compared to PW. Don't wait just buy and set and you'll be happy

Great system for all

I had already owned the Canon flash version of Phottix. This system is just as good for my Canon cameras.. I've been using it for portraits outdoors, and from what I have found, it works like a charm. Just as good as the Canon flash version. This is my 45th year in Photography and it's more fun now than before digital.

Works as advertise

These manual units works with all my flash equipment straight from the box. Then I realize Phottix has a iTTL unit for my nikon Flashes, So now I'm using both with some minor issues with the iTTL. But after making some adjustments with the FEC things worked good. Without a bunch of gimmicks I'm sure Cannon users will be happy as well.

There's a lot more functionality in other triggers

I had a couple of these (of the four I bought) cease working. They also don't support any hss functionality. I use YongNuo triggers now.

Great item

By MT

I am glad to see that Adorama is now selling this item. I had to buy mine at another vendor. I own 2 sets of these and also own the previous version of this product which was the strato 1. First off if you need to have remote units operate on TTL this is not the item for you. This item will allow you to place a trigger in the built in camera shoe, use it on TTL and fire remote units like monolights and shoe flashes on manual. I have yet to find a situation in which I could not fire these unit...

These things are awesome!

By EdFromOhio

These things are awesome. They're about the equivalent of the PocketWizard Plus II's. They don't do TTL, but they do have excellent range, they are very reliable, nice appearance and use standard AAA batteries. A huge bonus is that you can just put the transmitter between your flash and camera, and your flash works normally yet triggers remote flashes. You can mix and match brands of flashes and cameras. In my case I use a Canon camera but Nikon SB-28 flashes. The Nikon flashes will wor...
