Bulletproof construction

The Pelican 1610 with dividers and wheels (a.k.a Pelican 1614) holds the bulk of my photographic equipment. I use it for transporting my gear to and from location shoots. The Pelican 1614 is by no means light once fully loaded, but this is expected for a case with its capacity and sturdy construction. You can be assured your equipment stays protected and safely stowed away once the lid is secured shut. I use it in combination with a pair of Brinks combination locks and two cable rope slings secured to the spare tire in my car's trunk. This makes it relatively safe to leave it in your vehicle for a short period of time should you need to. Think of it as a large, plastic safe.

Pretty Much Indestructible

By

from Kalamazoo, MI  -  Pro Photographer

Third Pelican I have owned and the second 1610. The first one I had came with the foam but soon changed to dividers for more flexibility. Each 1610 totes around camera with grip and lens, 2 Alien Bees, meter, assorted cables, and portable battery for the lights. Plenty of room. Case is built like a tank and takes all the abuse I can give to it. Highly recommend.

A Great System Case

By

from Cypress, TX  -  Semi-pro Photographer

My wife and I are wedding photographers and we use a 2 camera system. We typically bring separate bags/backpacks to events which contain our camera bodies, lenses, strobes, and accessories. All of the bags go into a large Stanley work box cart along with other gear like tripods, monopods, stands, lighting accessories, etc. I was looking for a way to consolidate all of the camera specific gear where I don't have to dig around through several bags to find what I'm looking for: bodies, lenses, strobes, batteries, memory cards, etc. I wanted the bag to be strong but portable, secure, with easy access to my gear. Weight was less of a concern. The box is fairly weighty (it is made from thick stock), but it is not meant to be carried around. It was meant to be carted around, hence the wheels and retractable handle. If someone told me it would survive a tumble over Niagara Falls, I would believe it. It fits both of my camera bodies with 24-70mm lenses, plus 5 more lenses ranging from a fisheye to two 70-200mm lenses. The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L fits in the box standing on end. I can also fit 2 flashes and all of my accessories (batteries, filters, memory cards, blower, etc.) into a separate compartment I made for this purpose. I have only a few nitpicky issues with the box, and they are almost not worth mentioning. One is the latches are slightly hard to engage. They take a bit of force to open and close, but this is probably necessary to ensure a tight seal when closed. Another is the egg crate foam in the lid keeps falling out whenever I open the box, but I will soon remedy this with some double stick tape. The retractable handle is slightly low when extended. It's a minor inconvenience for me since I'm not very tall, but those over six feet might find it to be even less convenient. Aside from all that, the price is pretty high considering when all is said and done it is a plastic box, albeit a very useful one. The security and convenience it provides helped me justify the cost. Overall, I'm very impressed with the construction and quality of this box, and the dividers make it customizable to suit the needs of the photographer with a lot of gear. It fits into the trunk of our Nissan Altima, and even loaded with all the gear I mentioned above, I am still able to carry it short distances with either the large side mounted grab handle, or the two grab handles mounted on the ends. It's strong enough to stand on, and also makes a great imprompteau seat. This box is way too large for someone with one camera and a couple of lenses, but for a photographer with a 2-3 camera "system", it's perfect.

Plenty of storage Will buy a second!

By

from Adrian, MI  -  Pro Photographer

There are two long dividers that run the longest length and 12 shorter dividers to make smaller areas for lenses etc. I have a D3s, D700, D90, 70-200mm, 16-24mm, 24-70mm, 2-50mm, three flashes, accessories and cleaning kits in this with room to spare. I plan to buy the top pouch next. plenty of storage for everything you have! Works great for location shoots!

Great Storage

By

This is great storage and transport for most of my gear - while heavy the wheels really help out. When I add the 1510 to this I have room for all of my gear.

Sturdy & Safe

What can I say? It's Pelican. I travel a lot and my case has taken a beating. If you have invested any money into gear make sure to protect it.

Great Case! Worth the $$$

By

from Oviedo, FL  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This is a great case. It hold all my equipment safe and secure. I have three Nikon DSLR bodies and 7 lenses in there along with all the extras. There is still room to grow. The only issue with this case is it's HEAVY! Be ready to use some muscles when you need to lift it. Other than that, it's perfect.

Son says it's great!

By

from Marylands Eastern Shore

Bought this as a birthday present for my son. It was on his wish list. Having seen the case recently it appears to be just what any photographic enthusiast/professional would want that has much equipment to store. Son is happy too. Because of it's size it will be a concern when all equipment it carrys isn't necessary, or when space is limited. Therefore a smaller case may also be more preferable.

Can't be beat!

By

from Waynesboro, PA  -  Professional

I made this purchase based on need and reputation. I wanted to consolidate my photo equipment into one case and eliminate the single cases with my telephoto lenses. The 1610 comes standard with a retractable handle and the wheels are like those used on roller skates. Not cheap materials and very well constructed. The Pelican 1610 fills my needs and adds considerable protection as well. Not to mention it is waterproof and dust proof. I do however, recommend purchasing a reusable silica gel pack to store with your equipment. I carry extra insurance on all my photo equipment and I received a discount from my insurance underwriter just by purchasing the Pelican 1610 for transporting and storing my photographic equipment. This case like many of Pelican cases meet or exceed military standards. Enough said!
