About Profoto B1 500 AirTTL Monolight

The Profoto B1 500 Air Battery-Powered 2-Light Location Kit makes studio quality lighting as easy to use as your camera's TTL flash. The B1 offers double wireless freedom - a built in AirTTL receiver for remote triggering as well as a powerful on-board Lithium-ion battery that untethers you from the wall outlet. When you need to recharge, the included Fast Battery Charger lives up to its name by providing up to 220 500W/s flashes on a 60 minute charge while the car charger allows you to refresh the battery while you drive to your next shoot. The kit fits in an included ballistic nylon backpack which was tailored for it. Its interior features padded compartments and room for expendables and optional Profoto transmitters. Currently the B1 offers full TTL exposure plus remote triggering for Canon cameras via the optional Air Remote TTL-C. A version for Nikon cameras will be available later this year. The B1 can also be triggered remotely with the Air Remote or Air Sync without TTL functionality.

The B1 recycles in 0.1 to 1.9 seconds but can deliver up to 20 flashes per second in Quick Burst Mode which engages at lower power settings. Flash duration in Normal Mode is a very fast 1/1,000 sec. but there's also a Freeze Mode that delivers flash durations a short as 1/19,000 sec. for capturing liquid sprays or splashes and other creative effects. The modeling light has been upgraded to LED to put less strain on the battery and provide the equivalent output of a 70W tungsten-halogen bulb. The B1's exchangeable Lithium-ion battery gets up to 220 flashes on a 2-hour charge with the standard 2.8A charger or a 1-hour charge with the 4.5A Fast Charger. The battery has fuel gauge-type LEDs that make monitoring remaining power easy.

With TTL
The unique AirTTL feature provides perfect exposure without manual metering, making it quick and easy to catch not only the moment, but also light it in a creative way. Please note that an AirTTL Remote optional transmitter needs to be attached to your camera in order to use this features.

Without cables or cords
The B1 is powered by an exchangeable, high-capacity battery that is integrated with the flash. Combine that with an any of the wireless transmitter options offered within the Profoto Air System and experience the freedom that comes with working without cables and cords.

With power
The B1 is packed with 500Ws of light, enough to shape and control the light even in difficult sunny conditions. The output range is 9 f-stop controlled in 1/10 f-stop increments, providing optimal control and flexibility.

With speed
At full power, the B1 will recharge in less than 2 seconds. At lower power settings, it will produce up to 20 flashes per second, eliminating the risk of missing that perfect shot waiting for the flash.

With light shaping
The built-in reflector creates a wide and even light spread that is beautiful on its own. You are also free to choose from more than 120 compatible Light Shaping Tools and shape it into almost any light you can imagine. Experiment, explore and grow as a photographer.

With quality in every detail
The B1 is designed accordingly to the same high quality standard that made Profoto a household name in the demanding fashion industry. With careful attention to every detail, it is built to provide perfect light for many years to come.

Questions about this item:

jodi s  what's the duration of the battery?
DAVID R  There is no real good answer to that. It all depends on what power setting you have the strobes set too. I would says at full power you are good for 250-300 shots. I've done 500 shots on lower power before. I do suggest a spare battery so you can do mid shoot swaps.
