MUST-HAVE.....
I'm always on-the-go, and always travelling light. This thing acts not only as an octabox, but also as a pretty good beauty dish as well. Very well-made, packs small, and gives SPECTACULAR light... fun to experiment with the different set-ups, and I can even use it with my hot lights. I have the big 'un, I'm ordering the lil 'un too!
Incredibly Worthwhile
This box is incredible. The inner diffuser makes the light even and smooth and it creates an incredible catch light in the eyes. It's also incredible for product shots. You can remove both the outer and inner diffusers giving you many options for lighting. The construction is very solid. Overall I would say that you won't find a better box for this price. Every studio photographer should have one.

The Illuminata II is capable of producing three distinctively different qualities of light. From the original assembly, without any of its modifying features added, the Illuminata II will throw such a brilliant pattern of light, enhanced by the dappled silver shell, that many photographers choose to capture and form it to their own design with the creative use of gobos and secondary reflectors.
To modify this light, to use its brilliance and use it to create images of high and varying contrast, the internal diffuser with its exclusive silver panel is installed, attaching it inside the shell at position points already affixed with velcro tabs.
The Illuminata II has also given the promise of light as soft and as even as moonglow. And the promise has been kept. When the outer diffuser has been added, the Illuminata II takes on a completely new dimension. Now both reflected and diffused, the light source takes on a softness in quality and an evenness from edge to edge that can only be measured in fractions of an f stop. Now itbecomes the perfect key light for picturing people.
Available in two diameters 36 inches (90 cm) and 52 inches (130 cm), each unit comes packaged with eight flexsteel and fiberglass rods already built into the shell to allow quick and easy insertion in its standard mounting collar. An insert ring to accept the light head of your choice is the extra accessory required, Insert rings, according to light head used range in price from thirteen to twenty-six dollars and are available at all Illuminata II dealers.
Other exclusive and outstanding features of the Illuminata II include its narrow silhouette: only 15" (37.5cm) for the model R-3036, 19"(47.5cm) for the model R-3000. Weight 6 lbs. In addition, each model includes the die cast aluminum mounting ring, so that only the addition of a light head insert adapter is required.
Heat release vents are included in the shell should the Illuminata II be used with a continuous light source of up to 500 watts. The Illuminta II comes packaged with its own heavy duty carry case.
