This item does what you want for a 35mm lens, It is good as the 40 mm xs lens but in a 35 mm package.

Great image quality, accurate colors, and the focal length (and ease of use) is just right for all-purpose shooting. Construction is solid.

I was looking for something that would get me a reasonably wide-angle view of close-range subjects and this lens does a fine job of it. The resolution is good to the edges of the image and I have noticed no untoward "fringing", or other chromatic aberrations. While I would have preferred a weather-resistant model, as I live in the Pacific Northwest, the pricing made this worth adding. If I had to find any fault, it would be in Pentax labelling this as a "DA" series lens - with its plastic mount, I would have felt this as fitting more in the "DA-L" category. It performs like a DA, though, so no complaints!

I have only had this about a week, but I really like this lens. It is very sharp, and I’ve found the color rendition is excellent, both in low light and outside in bright sun. It is light but still feels solid.

I found this to be a nice lens with good focus and good low light capabilities. I shoot with an older Pentax k-5 and it fits my camera nicely. I am able to get very sharp portrait and close up nature pics. For the price I think it would be hard to beat the image quality you get from this lens

This is a great little lens. No it isn't metal. No it doesn't come with all the features of pricier lenses. It's the glass that matters and this is good stuff. Pentax Super Multi-Coating is better than ever. The contrast and resolution is top tier. It focuses quickly and is as sharp as lenses costing 3 times as much. I have 35 years experience in photography and the image quality of this little lens is amazing. I have zero regrets with this purchase and neither will you.

I wanted a prime lens for general shooting. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be as versatile as I needed, but after taking it along with 4 other lenses on a photo-heavy week long tour of Ireland, this was perhaps my used lens (if not, a close second). Yes, it's a plastic body and it's probably not the best lens in the world, but for the price- it's an incredible buy and I don't regret it for a second. I'm happy with the image quality and everyone has loved the end result. It is a bit compact so, at times when on the move, I've had a little difficulty mounting the lens.

This is a nice sharp lens. It focuses quickly and is very light. It's all plastic with a plastic lens mount, though everything feels tight and it focus smoothly on manual and quickly with autofocus. Like all Pentax lenses it will fit any K-mount camera made, from thirty or more years old to the most recent. Price seems a bit high for an all plastic lens, but it doesn't flare, has little noticeable distortion and offers great contrast and sharpness. It does not come with a lens hood.

I bought this lens based on comments I read on line. I was not disappointed. I almost forgot how sharp prime lens are. Used this lens for two weddings and kept my $600.00 zoom in the case. Believe e you cant go wrong.

I was surprised at how sharp this lens turned out to be, not just for the price, but in absolute terms. It's light, quick to focus and produces good contrast. I wish the mounting was metal instead of plastic, but it seems durable enough. This is a good-low cost normal focal length lens that's reasonably fast and a great walk around lens.

My wife would shoot me if I tried to buy a Limited or Star lens, so I bought this. It's relatively inexpensive and usually quite sharp. The only con that I can see is that it's not a focal length I would have bought if there had been comparably priced lenses in higher powers. I don't think you could go wrong with this lens.

This is the best lens I own. All of the others (execept the kit lens) are used and fairly old and most are manual, so for me this lens has been an entry into a new world, the world of modern, auto-focus sharp lenses. If the * and Limited lenses are hundreds and hundreds of dollars better than this one, then they must be mighty good! For the money I can't imagine a better lens.

2012-01-15T19:00:00
I wish it had more telephoto, or that I could afford or was willing to pay for a * or Limited lens, but seeing that this isn't the case, all I can say is this is one fine lens. By far the sharpest lens I own in my modest stable of lenses. If you don't have $500 or more to spend on a lens, try this one. It's a relative bargain!

Pentax makes a fantastic product. It is compact in design but makes up for its size with excellent images. Why have big and bulky, when you can have Pentax?

Very Satisfied with the new lens. Was all that I expected. Would buy again, highly recommended. Adorama is the best place to buy cameras and lens. Had a few bad experiences with other places, I can always count on Adorama they are dependable and back their products.

This lens is great as a budget lens (being the DA AL series). It is quite good at F2.4, sharp at F4, and very sharp at F8. Being a F2.4 lens, it's very useable indoors in dim lighting conditions, and the 35mm width on APS-C gives me enough width to catch a dinner party. It renders colors very well, giving nice rich tones in outdoor scenes. The plastic construction may be a deterrent to some, but it is in no way a weak lens. I've dropped this from a huge height before, and there is not a single mark on the body or glass. Note - that's not a suggestion to test the ruggedness of the lens. My biggest gripes with the lens is that it does not have a dedicated hood, it is not very easy to use in manual focus, and it does not have an aperture ring. However, as a budget DA series (DA being made for the Digital cameras), none of those cons are a huge deal breaker. I would wholly recommend this lens over and over again to the amateur photographer wanting a lovely fast 35mm.

This lens has not left my camera since arriving from Adorama. The color and contrast are great, and everything has been sharp. This may not have the IQ of a * or a Limited, but considering the cost, this lens has great value. The focal length is great for street shooting, informal portraits, and even some landscapes. Zoom with your feet. My only concern is the plastic build (and plastic mount) of the lens -- I hope it can stand up for many years of use, but that remains to be seen. Crossing my fingers. Also, there is no hood or case for the lens, you must supply your own. Get a 49mm screw in hood, the snap on will not work.
