SMC PENTAX-DA 50mm f/1.8 medium-telephoto autofocus lens is designed exclusively for use with the Pentax K -mount interchangeable-lens (ILC) digital cameras. Thanks to state-of-the-art optical design technology from PENTAX, the lens' image coverage is optimized for PENTAX K-mount ILC cameras to deliver sharp, clear images from edge to edge. With a sleek, modern look anda lightweight body, the new PENTAX-DA 50mm f/1.8 lens was designed with versatility and flexibility in mind and is ideal for photographers of varying levels, from amateurs to professionals.

The PENTAX-DA 50mm f/1.8 lens is ideal for photographers interested in portraiture and general photography. The lens measures just 1.5 inches long and weighs only 4.3 ounces, making it small enough and light enough to accompany photographers on all kinds of outings.

When mounted on a PENTAX K-mount ILC camera body, the PENTAX-DA 50mm f/F1.8 lens delivers a focal length of 50mm or 76.5mm in the 35mm format. The lens' f/1.8 maximum aperture and round diaphragm blades enable it to produce a natural "bokeh" (out-of-focus) effect, which gives the blurry elements in an image a softer, rounded and more pleasing appearance. Additionally, the f/1.8 aperture makes it possible to increase camera shutter speed when photographing in poorly lit conditions, which minimizes camera shake and helps eliminate blur.

For extra preventative measures, the front surface of the PENTAX-DA 50mm f/1.8 lens is treated with the company's original SP (Super Protect) coating, which repels dust, water, grease, and other substances that may adhere to the surface of the lens. The protective coating promotes trouble-free use in all kinds of shooting situations.

Very nice normal option

Seems to be based on Pentax's outstanding 50/1.7 optical formula that has been around for decades. Newer coatings and a less expensive casing results in a solid performer for far less money. Nice lens and a great first prime for a new dSLR owner.

I should get it earlier

By

from Fort Collins, CO  -  Photo Enthusiast

Its really good deal for the price. I have a bunch of manual prime lenses, but with babies and children you need to be fast. That is the main reason I got this lens. Though it is a little slow focusing in the low light, but it have to be really low lighting. I use it with Pentax K30. Even at night, indoors, when the regular lights are on it works good. I do not use flash.

Great Lens

By

from Ozark, Missouri  -  Photo Enthusiast

I recently purchased this lens and have only used it once. I am initially very impressed with the photographs. My daughter, who is a professional photographer, said after seeing pictures taken with the new lens, that she was not impressed with my camera until she saw the pictures taken with the new 50mm prime lens. Now she has changed her mind about the camera. Evidently, it took a decent lens to create exceptional looking pictures!

Excellent lens for your money

By

from Vancouver, WA  -  Casual Photographer

Bought this for my sister, she likes it a lot and I have tested it myself for a little. I have fa 50mm 1.4 and this DA 50mm 1.8 is very good alternative. Build quality is good and it is light. IQ is excellent for your money. Sharpness is good even wide open.

Plastic Fantastic

By

Great little lens. It's very light, fast, and sharp (when stopped down a tiny bit). Got this for everyday photography, but 50mm is a bit to narrow of a focal point although excellent for portraits. So, 35mm is on the wish list. The AF is also a bit on the loud side. All in all, for the price, this is an excellent lens with great IQ.

As a hobby photographer this lens is absolutely amazing for the price. If you are looking for a prime lens go no further (unless you want to spent a lot more). This lens will help you compose your shots better. Definitely recommend this lens to any amateur.

Portrait perfection

By

from Upstate, SC  -  Photo Enthusiast

I was looking for a portrait lens with a large aperture and something fairly sharp with auto focus. This lens was just what I needed. I'm a stickler for image quality so it was easy to look past the cameras faults when I saw the pictures. Pros: very sharp even wide open, smooth bokeh, great for indoor shots without flash, lightweight, inexpensive ($181 at time of purchase) Cons: slow and obnoxiously loud auto focus, plastic construction, no quick-shift, not weather-sealed

Fantastic Lens for the price

By

from SF Bay Area  -  Casual Photographer

I purchased this lens for babies photography. Although MF lenses are good, they are a pain to use on babies. This lens works great with my K-X. Pros : - Best value alternative for AF prime - Excellent low light performance - Works great with the Digital SLRs Cons: - Plastic Construction.
