Pentax 2.4/70mm Prime Passes the Test!

OUTSTANDING LENS AT A GOOD PRICE! Early shooting indicates its sweet-spot to be at mid-aperture; try f/5.6. Purchased the lens primarily for portraits. I'm sure it will give control over compression -- distance from subject to back "wall."

Nice Lens

The build quality is absolutely fantastic. I found the plastic fantastic 50 1.8 is a better fit for me the bokeh is about the same and the focal length better suited my people pictures. This lens is a real winner if you find the focal length is good for you.

Beautiful Lens. AF is fast .Nice bokeh, sharp. You will not regret buying this. I struggled between this and the 77mm. For the price difference,I could not be happier.

Good Portrait Lens

Sharp lens, small size is not as intimidating as most portrait lenses. Very neat extending hood, it can be removed by unscrewing from the filter threads, or you can screw on a filter and then reattach the hood. Small size means you can always have it with you in the bag.

Sharp Compact Lens

This lens is compact in size, fast and has a great focal length for portrait as well as cropped landscape photos. It works well in low light and picture quality is sharp. I like the slip on lens cap which is easy to remove and put back. However this cap only fits the supplied hood - if you want to shoot with a filter, you will have to purchase a separate clip on lens cap. Construction seems durable and focus mechanism is very smooth for those who prefer to focus manually. Auto focus is fast and accurate. Great Product!

Highly recommended

I purchased this lens for portraits, landscapes, and casual photography with my K10D after reading all of the reviews and tests that I could find. It has not disappointed me. Superb results can be achieved at F/2.4 with a sharp central subject and smooth surrounding bokeh. Resolution peaks at F/5.6 and remains quite good even at F/11. Autofocus is precise and relatively fast - and does make noise, but this does not bother me. This lens can easily be carried in a shirt pocket. Even with the hood attached, when mounted on the camera it only sticks out 1" beyond the flash visor, making it an ideal lens for working in a crowd or confined space.

good portraits with a tiny lens

metal supplied hood almost doubles size of the lens and lens cap only can be used with the hood. Better get another lens cap.

High quality and sharp lens

I using this lens on my K100D. This lens weight so light and easy carying anywhere. I also bought the Pentax DA40 too. Both them is very good lens and pic so clear, sharp. I strong command must buy this lens with your pentax camera.

just fine

I wanted to get this for portraits, so I wouldn't be waving a big zoom around in front of someone's face. It turns out the first photos I took, on a K10D, are band photos in dim light where no flash was allowed. I was taking photos wide open at 1/20th second, and they look good. One thing you need to know, all the pictures show this lens without the lens hood. I thought it would be really small to carry around. However, the lens cap is integral to having the lens hood on the camera, which makes the whole thing stick out an 1" more than if you just put a cap on the lens. If you're in situations where you would not need the hood, get a spare 49mm lens cap, as this one won't fit the lens by itself.

great lens

Purchased this lens for the Pentax K10D, where it provides a 105 mm focal length equivalent, and really love it: great build quality, excellent optics (sharp, good color rendition). Autofocus is accurate, and relatively fast and quiet (for a non-USM lens). I haven't used it for wild-life or sports, so I can't comment on how it would perform for fast action shots. Probably exceeds the resolution of the 10 MP K10D chip. Overall, a great portrait/short telephoto lens and fun to use.

This lens takes great photos!

I use this lens on the Pentax K10D. The photos are very sharp and the detail is outstanding. I was surprised that a small lens like this could take excellent photos. BEP, Inc.
