Rane RaneGain 400Hz Sine Wave Generator and Matching Piezo Transducer for Setting Level Controls

The Rane RaneGain 400Hz Sine Wave Generator and Matching Piezo Transducer is a test set that comprises a 400Hz test tone generator and matching transducer (speaker.) It is used for setting maximum levels in consoles and outboard effects and processing equipment.

The system to be set up should have all amplifiers switched off and all level controls set to zero, or to minimum settings. The generator is connected to a microphone mixer input that provides phantom power (required.) The transducer is plugged into the output of the mixer or microphone preamp.

Gain is increased on the selected channel/preamp until the transducer is heard to buzz. The level is then dropped just enough to stop the transducer responding and this level represents the maximum signal output before clipping. The entire system can then be adjusted in a similar manner.
