Great Affordable Lens

from Tampa, FL  -  Professional

I use this lens to shoot interior real estate properties that have been foreclosed and refurbished. This lens better suits the need for this type of property. I love the focus assist that is possible by the addition of the Automatic Chip. The only problem is the is not as forgiving with distortion when not exactly level. It's extremely light which makes movement easy even on a full frame camera body.

Good wide angle lens

from Alaska  -  Hobbyist

I recently upgraded to a Canon 6D from a Rebel T3. I bought this lens after reading reviews here and talking to other photographers. This lens took some getting used to as I am not a manual photo shooter but I am learning. The lens is heavy so keep that in mind. I usually haul the camera equipment around in my car and work from there. The pictures I have taken are worth the lens.

Fun lens

from Hilton, NY

This is a great lens for creative photography. It's manual focus so it takes a bit to get used to. Go to and search rokinon for a few photos.

Automatic Chip for Nikon?

from Madison, WI  -  Professional

When I received the lens I attempted to make use of the automatic chip for Nikon and it did not work. I have a 4 year old D700 and no matter what I did to focus the lens, it would not light up the indicator in my camera to confirm I had achieved focus. Not sure what the problem was. Other than that the lens seemed sharp but I did not take the time to do any other tests and returned it to Adorama for a refund. I am going to bite the bullet and buy the Nikon 14-24 so I don't have to compromise and struggle. In my business, I don't have time to dink around with something to get it to work. I just thought I would give this a try because of price but as usual, you get what you pay for. Otherwise I am sure landscape togs could make use of the lens because they have the luxury of time on their side when creating an image.

Rokinon Field Test

from Greensboro NC  -  Professional

This lens is best used in well lit areas to assist with focusing. At 14mm it seems to have less distortion than similar lens. Manual focusing takes some practice. Using the distance indicators on the lens helps. When in focus the lens is sharp. I use the Nikon version lens with sensors for metering on a full frame camera. An auto focus version of this lens costs 3 times as much.

Great night sky lens

from juneau,alaska  -  Business Owner

I bought this lens for shooting night skies and I have not been disappointed. Its been fantastic so far. no coma or CA and when shooting the recent aurora we had, it really was exciting going back through the files and seeing the quality of the files.

from cape cod MA  -  Free Lance

Bought for Canon. great wide angle, good sharpness and contrast for a bargain price, even at wide apertures. Minor drawback is that manual focusing is difficult in certain situations. Distortion is noticeable but can be corrected in photoshop or other tool

Great lens

from Bloomington mn  -  Hobbyist

I bought the lens for night time shoots but have not had time for that. But it easy to use for my test shots during the my day.

Excellent Lens!

from Austin, TX  -  Hobbyist

I had the same lens configuration made by Canon (at 4 times the price) but it was damaged just before my trip so I needed a last minute replacement. I purchased this lens primarily for taking pictures of the night sky on my Canon 6D body and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I was very impressed with the pics I took with it in the daytime as well. I would definitely recommend this lens.

Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 WA Lens

from Germantown, MD  -  Pro Photographer

The saying goes is that you get what you pay for. With this lens you get a lot more, in fact that in spite of it being a non-vibration reduction, manual focus lens, it is an incredible bargain for both the pro and casual photographer who is looking for a great ultra wide-angle lens but is on a tight budget. Having the automatic chip built into the lens allows the camera (in my case a D600) to indicate when the lens is in focus by having arrows direct you to which direction to turn the focus ring and a round dot showing up when it is in focus. The other bonus is that when opening up the file in PhotoShop, once you have downloaded (or created ) a lens profile for this lens, it will be automatically be recognized by the application when you activate lens correction. (This is done either when opening a raw file, or using the lens correction filter. Adobe also has a free downloadable app to allow you to create your own profiles for any lens/camera combination you have, which also can be shared.) In use, the lens can be used in a wide range of lighting situations, is easy to attach and remove from the camera, and on a full-frame camera such as the D600 provides a extreme wide view with full coverage. Even if you don't use a lens profile to correct for any lens distortion, the lens provides lines with little or no bending. Since the lens cap is well secured on the lens, there is little chance of accidentally touching the front element when mounting or removing the lens. The lens is light-weight, but appears to be well constructed. (Hopefully this will still be the case down the road as I use the lens more in various situations.) I mentioned that the lens cap provided is secured on the lens by two locking clips on either side of the cap. This is far superior to what Nikon has for its 14mm. Even if you hold the lens by the cap, it is secure enough to keep from sliding off the lens until you press down the clips to remove it. If I have any negative points, there are just two minor ones. It would have been nice to have retro-focus markings on the focus ring. While this lens does provide a extremely wide depth of field even wide open, there are time when you want to use retro-focusing to insure that you have all that you want in focus as sharp as possible. It is possible to approximate it, but having the marks would make it easier to do so. The other is the lack of a provision to add filters to the back of the lens like some of the other wide-angle lenses. As far as I am concerned these are minor points and do not take away from all of the positive aspects of this lens. For a small investment, you get a piece of glass which is sharp, well constructed and will provide you with very good quality images. (I've provided a single image I shot of the Marine Corp Memorial near Washington DC as an example of what the lens can do. it was shot just at sunrise. )
