I am an armature photographer and I recently purchased a 24" giclee printer. I chose the RCRCM42 paper cutter to support simple cutting / separation of my prints. While I won't be making hundreds of cuts per day I wanted a cutter that would last a life time. This machine certainly lives up to my expectations. It is very easy to load paper and get it aligned. The paper stays put when cutting, it probably would even stay put without using a hand to hold it. Cutting is smooth and precise, it is easy to trim off a 1/32" even on a long edge cut. I have also tried it with canvas prints and the results are also great. The build quality is truly professional. Everything just works and works well. I am assuming the blade will stay sharp indefinitely and it appears that I could probably remove it and take it to a professional sharpener if it is ever needed. Now for the negative. While the shipping box is built like a tank and could probably support shipment of steel beams the Styrofoam retainers are woefully inadequate. I am pretty sure the the Styrofoam inserts were designed for the smaller versions of this cutter where they would probably still be inadequate. As a result my printer arrive damaged. The box showed no damage but the three foam pieces were basically destroyed. It had clearly been dropped and the particle board base-plate was cracked on the corner under one of the blade guides. The crack does not go all the way through to the top and the unit still works but I must exchange it because cracked particle board will not heal itself over time nor will it remain stable. I am confident Adomrama will help me sort this out. Hopefully the good people at RotaTrim will consider making some improvements to their shipping package design. This unit deserves 5 stars for design and operation but the fact that it arrived damaged is disappointing. The reason for the damage was packing and not handling I have to take off at least one star. This is clearly a Rotatrim issue and not an Adorama or UPS handling issue.
A very precisely manufactured product designed for the professional.
This rotary trimmer can cut very lightweight and heavier papers. It is accurate and easy to use.
