had to fiddle with it to get it tight otherwise it was a little loose and unstable, but good for the price

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Very nice, well built quick release shoe. However, the base mounting thread will NOT accomodate the thread in a tripod such as the Slik Mini-Pro V. You either have to re-tap the existing thread in the quick release shoe or find a tripod to which it will attach. Stupid thread choice. Too bad!
