Rock-solid
By KenVerified Purchaser from Olympia WA on 5/8/2008
Pros:
Good Stability, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Portraits, Stabilization
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nicely-designed circular quick-release plate allows the camera to be mounted quickly. While hefty, the tripod just doesn't move - at all - once set on its feet. The legs allow for very low-angle shots with the flip of a lever. Can handle the weight of a Mamiya RB67 or most 4x5 view cameras (unless you're thinking of a studio-weight camera, where the 700DX is (gasp!) too light).

Great construction, shame about the bag supplied, it lets down the ultra strong image of the actual product.

Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Portraits

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A great inexpensive tripod. Only negative is weight it is heavy so it would not be the best for backpacking but for everything else it will not fail. Build quality is exceptional for the price, stability is comparable to more expensive tripods. If you are an amateur or hobbyist like me and just need a nice sturdy tripod within a reasonable price this is the tripod for you. [...]

works great w/ my 300mm and 400mm telephoto lens. a little on the heavy side but very surdy and have eliminated by blurd shots ... only draw back is the cheap looking bag that came with it. I had to get a separate bag to take away my worries. I always have this SLIK with me on photo shoots and I love it.

I live in the foothills of the Rocky mountains and can't wait to use this tripod in rugged terrain to photograph wildlife, landscapes and sunsets this spring. I'll be using a Nikon D80, D200, equipped with wide angle and telephoto lenses. I will also be using it for my spotting scope. It may be a little on the heavy side for backpacking but for short hikes it will work great. So far I have only used this tripod inside my home and my yard, I'm impressed how sturdy it is, and all the great features, no doubt it will serve me well when the snow melts.

Good Stability, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography

Bottom Line:

I use this tripod for both my 100-400 telephoto zoom and my 100mm Macro lenses, on my 400D. As others have stated this tripod is "solid" Not for a hiking trip, but for those that want a quality dependable tripod. Great choice if you can't justify the cost of a carbon fibre high end tripod.

Level works well. Each adjustment and section locks solidly .... 100% happy with this tripod purchase. Would buy another if needed!

Awesome Tripod

Easy Levelling, Good Stability, Solid, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Heavier than anticipated
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography, Portraits, Stabilization
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I couldn't be happier. This is one solid tripod, and it handles my Canon 40D and a 300mm lens without skipping a beat. The quick release is great, and the joints are all rock solid. I feel like this tripod could stand up in a hurricane.

If you're looking for a tight, heavy-duty, rock solid pan-head -- look no further.

Good solid Tripod
By DGATESVerified Purchaser from Union, MO on 1/21/2008
Pros:
Good Stability
Cons:
Heavy, It needs a handle
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This tripod is heavy duty, it will hold a DSLR and a long lens with no problem. I like it because the legs open up wide and the center rod can be removed for very low close up shots of flowers and plants. The only thing that troubles me about it is the quick disconect. It does not hold firmly. You have to be sure to remove your camera before moving the SLIK 700DX around or it will disconect on its own.

A very stable tripod
By Gadgt HoundVerified Purchaser from Rapid City, SD on 1/21/2008
Pros:
Good Stability, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Portraits, Reducing Noise (ISO Reduction), Stabilization
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This seems to be a very strong and stable tripod. It is not your lightweight, go for a hike tripod. But, for fighting wind or camera shake from mirror movement, this is it. It is very well designed, and if the weight doesn't bother you and you want a rugged tripod, this should be a good choice.

Awesome... Very Stable... Versatile
By Anthony from Guam, USA on 12/21/2007
Pros:
Good Stability, Rock Solid, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
None
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography, Portraits, Reducing Noise (ISO Reduction), Stabilization
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is rock solid tripod it's very versatile for all kinds of photography. The best feature I like about it; is that it's center column is a two piece section (So Don't buy the optional low profile column accessory. I did not knowing that the center column can be separated{Unscrewed and becomes a low profile center column}. Which then allows for the tripod to be used very low to the ground. 3 inch shorter then the optional center column being sold.[$]This feature is not listed or mentioned in the specs. Don't trust your $1000+ photo equipment to subpar low price tripods. I would say this is the cheapest you could get on a really GOOD! tripod.

I hardly believed it, until I owned it
By Dave from Tunkhannock, PA. on 11/15/2007
Pros:
Folds Small, Good Stability, Very well built
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Portraits, Stabilization
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I read the reviews before I bought this but really didn't have too much faith in them. I relied on the products established name and proven quality. So I bought it and it is unbelivable. There arn't enough adjectives to describe it. A couple of years ago I had an accident involving my arm and shoulder, and my hands are shakey from that accident. I cannot use my camera without a tripod unless I am shooting at a very fast shutter speed. I had another tripod but when I went to push the shutter release it wasn't nearly the well built comstruction that this one has and my older tripod wasn't stable enough to hide my affliction No Problem what so ever with my new one. Love it and would recomend it to anyone who wants the feel of class.

Why pay for an ImageStabilized lens?

Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:

If I have my camera, the tripod is within easy reach. I just purchased a zoom that goes to 500mm on the long end and have gotten some great flying bird shots I could never have gotten handheld. The Slik pans and tilts so smoothly, I simply love it! If I lost it I would replace it with the same thing.

I'm buying a second one I like it
By Larry from Vashon Island, Washington on 9/17/2006
Pros:
Good Stability, Unfolds Quickly
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography, Portraits, Reducing Noise (ISO Reduction), Stabilization

I use it in the studio for fine portraiture and travel with it for commercial work. Extremely durable. Sets up fast. Use it for my RZ, 4x5, Seitz Roundshot, Xpan, and Digital SLR. Taken to China, Amazon, Central America, Europe, Middle East. Works great in dirt, mud, rain, nothing stops it never has a maintenance problem. Plus if you leave it in the back seat of a taxi in Rome you're only out $[...] bucks not $500 like those carbon fibre nightmares that the leg shims wear out on when you're on the other side of the world. Plus it doesent frustrate my wife to set up when she uses it. By the way she is a really great photographer, just not mechanically inclined.

A tripod for nearly all seasons and uses
By Sahagan from Murray, in Western Kentucky on 8/27/2006
Pros:
Circular quick release, Good Stability, Tall and Stable, Unfolds Quickly, Very Strong
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography, Portraits, Reducing Noise (ISO Reduction)

[...]
b. The tripod was ordered for use with my digital cameras, but proved much more useful than I had envisioned.
c. The tripod is sufficiently strong to hold a pair of 25X100 binoculars, weighing over 8 pounds with added bracket and reflex sighting device added on.
d. The tripod is tall enough to enable one to stand under the binoculars and look straight overhead, and yet strong enough to remain stable at the extended height.
e. The circular quick release allows one to pan 360 degrees on the quick release dock, giving an extra and useful motion.
f. The tripod is heavy enough hiking photographers won't likely go for it, but for those who don't mind the seven-plus pounds as a trade-off for an exceptional and beautifully performing tripod, it is absolutely the cat's meow!

Get one, quick! You'll be glad you did....
