Shopper : does this come with a boom arm clamp?HARIKA S : yesNOEL M : Yes it does. I would suggest if you are going to load a monolight to it or a soft box (medium or so 24x36?) that would put some strain on your clamp due to weight and that the clamp is made of plastic. I would suggest looking into getting a Manfrotto dual clamp (metal) the only issue that the thickness of the boom's shaft is a bit larger than the Manfrotto's (acceptable shaft in mm.'s about 2 or 4 can't quite remember). The Manfrotto clamp would have to be opened to it's maximum or very close to it in order to run the boom arm through it, also as you tighten the clamp it will squeeze the boom so be careful because the boom will flatten if you over do it. If you plan to use this boom with small flashes such as nikon's or canon's etc. you should be fine with the original clamp it is sturdy. e.g. I used this boom with a Creative Light Softbox Umbrella and Calumet Genesis 200 with no problems until I mounted a softbox, the only issue was that I needed a C-stand for better stabilization of the boom, other than that the boom felt strong at about 6 ft. extension (I was working out of a garage of 15ft L x 9ft W and 10ft ceiling) Hope this helps and I know it was more than the question suggested but, I wan to share a real world experience. Cheers!COLIN B : Boom arm clamp information for Savage Two-Section Boom Aarm (47.6-83.0 " L.): Our Savage Two Section Boom Arm (anodized aluminum not chrome) came complete with the following clamping devices: (1) Moveable bag clamp with integrated bag hook, (1) Center-mounted pivot clamp at axis containing two integrated levers for locking out rotation, (2) telescopic-tube machine screw-down clamping bolts, (2) end-of-boom locking machine screw bolts.TIM D : I don't believe I ordered a separate clamp. So, yes, I'm pretty sure it does. I would mention, though, that mine was useless after two sessions with an alien bees strobe head and softbox. It can't support that weight...which isn't that much. So make sure not to overload it, which is probably about 4 or 5 lbs.
(unknown) ( : what weights fit in this weight bag?DUSTIN M : I have not tried putting a weight in the bag, but I anticipate at least 5lbs. Per another review, the reviewer mentioned it is a 11lb bag. It is a decent sized bag, so it sounds about right.NATHANIEL A : I put small rocks, like the ones for landscaping in mine, it is about 15 lbs, and not full all the way.COLIN B : In our photo lab we used a total of 5.5 pounds of weight, placed into the supplied fabric weight bag (shown at the right side of the boom illustration). The weight took the form of two surplus cast metal pulleys, each weighing 2.25 pounds. The pulleys were from surplus water pumps, cleaned, and painted black. As an alternate, you can use clean beach sand, triple bagged in 1 quart poly freezer bags will work nicely. Triple bag and apply duct tape to give the appearance of a small pillow to ensure the sand stays in place and stable, then place the resulting miniature "sand bags" into each of the weight pocket (the factory-supplied fabric weight bag). To achieve the ideal counterbalance weight, we measured the downforce required to level-out the fully assembled boom using a spring-gauge (its' like a fish scale). We first pre-assembled the boom, including lamp and refelector, which is how we arrived at a total counterweight value of 5.5 lbs. If your weight is close, the friction clamp on the boom will keep the arm fixed; without the weight the friction clamp will not do the trick and the boom will tip over.
Shopper : how does this attach to lightstand??COLIN B : The telescopic "Savage" boom (HORIZONTAL TUBE) fits directly through ONE section of the supplied two-section, CENTER, circular, clamping-block that makes up the center-pivot / clamping assembly. The Savage horizontal boom is "clamped" into its desired postion (right to left) using one of two built-in clamping handles to squeeze the clamping block halves snug (which prevents the horizontal boom from further movement or rotation). Next, the supplied VERTICAL upper tripod's top post enters this same center pivot clamping assembly, in the 2ND joined section, and is similarly clamped into its desired VERTICAL position (up or down), using the remaining built-in clamping handle; this in turn squeezes the clamping block sections snugly onto the tripods' vertical post, providing vertical stability to the boom device. cb

Love this boom

I live this boom since the diameter of the boom is pretty thick and light weight. It will easily support a flash and soft box. Counter balancing is easy with the included weight bag. Just add weight.

Not bad for the price!

I have used this for 2+ years and it works great. The adapter is weak and i would advise picking up the heavy duty manfrotto boom adapter off of BHP. I would also suggest picking up the manfrotto 10lb boom arm counterweight off of BHP as this arm does not come with a weight just the bag to put a weight in. Kind of misleading if you don't read closely. This arm will hold an Alien Bee 1600 with a combination of a beauty dish, PLM, umbrella, and softbox. If you are low on cash and need an arm this is perfect. if you have some more money to spend then I would suggest looking around for something a little higher quality. You get what you pay for and while this is perfect for the price, it can leave a little to be desired for.

Good value!

With the advent of 'speedlight' versatility, this boom stand will place your flash virtually anywhere you may need it. It will hold your portable light and appropriate sized modifiers with no problem. It's lightweight and portable, an ease to use on location.

Good Boom Arm

Easy to set up... I was even able to achieve good balance even without counterweight.. Mine was brushed aluminum than Chrome..at the rice, seems no brainer to me..

Affordable, light, and useful

This is a very nice product and can extend to a good length. It can handle a decent amount of weight, because of the 11lb sandbag that's included. It's lightweight, and very convenient to carry around and just throw on top of one of your other lightstands when you need a boom. My only complaint is that the clamp is not strong enough. Mine is already twisted up a bit from a couple of times usage. I'm wondering if I can find a stronger metal one that will fit. Other than that, this is a great product. The arm itself is very nice, inexpensive, and has a long range.
