I would try to find something that is made specifically for that purpose, rather than attempting to reinvent the wheel with an unknown product. Try some creative googling, and possibly contact some art stores - most of the staffers there are artists, and can share their own experience and recommendations. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.RIC LA B : I don't know anything about oil paintings. I suppose if the oil is dry, there wouldn't be a problem. There is no information as to whether this release paper is archival.DONALD C : I have no idea. I use this in a dry mounting prrss. Sorry.BERNARD B : I cannot say unequivicaly, because I have never tried it. But Release Paper should be the best choice. My wife often packs her paintings with no packing other than bubble wrap. Whatever the packing, be sure the painting is completely(!) dry. Not just dry to the touch.BRADLEY S : We used it to protect a valuable oil painting and it worked very well. An artist friend also uses it when shipping paintings.LEONARD J : I have never tried it on oil painting, but I think you can. Archival quality is not determined.
