Works like it's supposed to
I purchased the gold colored omni-bounce to help color balance the light from my flash with some tungsten candleabras in an auditorium for shooting a wedding. It allowed me to use the flash straight on without producing harsh difference in color temperature. The omni-bounce produces a flash that is even and diffused. I have used the original, white omni-bounce for years and have been pleased with it's performance. The new one works just as well. I have used the flourescent balancing omni-bounce a little bit as well. It does improve the color balance when used with flourescents, though it's not as significant as the gold with the tungsten lights. I have not used higher priced diffusers for my flash, but with the omni-bounce, I feel no need to as they do a fine job. As an added plus, the omni-bounces fit inside each other, making storage very compact.

light diffusion and balancing color temp
These units from Sto-Fen are a fantastic and simple way to diffuse your flash and to match its color temperature to the ambient light. They are strong, durable and fit the Canon 580 EX snugly. Simply put, they do what they are made to do.

Gold for an instant tan
The gold is good for warming up a picture and to reduce harsh lighting. It also gives an instant tan. The green is excellent for cooling down the background and for setting up for post production editing.

They do the job well
I bought these to assist in fill-lighting interior shots. The "gold" one is supposed to balance against tungsten lighting, but in order to do so well it has to be coloured through. The dye used on the "gold" one doesn't appear to have been made dark enough - leaving tungsten balanced shots somewhat bluish wherever the flash hits.
The green one is much better and does a fine job of balancing fluorescent and flash.
