This lens has been my work horse for outdoors sports photography. Have shot 10's of thousands of photos with this lens over the last 2 years. The unfortunate fact that I have now had to send it in to Sigma 2 times for service. Warranty is 4yrs. So its covered. When it comes back it once again will be used exclusively for outdoor sports.

The lens is heavy, but that is what I expected with a constant aperture EX lens. The need was for a reasonably priced, greater than 200mmm, low light lens for sports photography and it fits that need. It focuses quickly for being a non-HSM lens. I am very pleased with this purchase.

After working with a cheeper zoom I was getting very frustrated with my images and with available zoom lenses for the Pentax 20D. I am very pleased with this lens! It is very sharp and now I can shoot with confidence my images are going to be of good quality. I also bought the sigma 2x converter and it works amazing too. Now I have a 100-600 quality lens. Nothing much wrong with it.

Get the 1.4x & 2x Sigma Tele-Converters, with the lens factor you'll get sharp shots out close to 1000mm. If it was 1 stop brighter it would cost twice as much, and be a lot heavier. I love how big the moon is when I Silhouette something infront of it, but use it mainly for birds. It's a lot sharper than I expected, especially with either of the Tele-Converters. I often use a polarizing filter to increase color saturation and find it plenty bright enough. P. S. I love my MonoPod and use it more often than my TriPod with this lens.

Sigma 100-300/F4 EX
By Steve C.
very good lens, very sharp, very good under heavy light conditions
This telephoto zoom lens provides a large F4 aperture at all focal lengths. The new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras, and also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range.
Two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements in the front lens group and another two in the rear group offer excellent correction of chromatic aberration. High optical performance is demonstrated throughout the entire zoom range. The internal focusing and zooming mechanism do not change the lens' overall length, assuring ease of handling and operation. A rotating tripod mount can be conveniently detached if required.
Since the front of the lens does not rotate, a circular polarizing filter and Petal-type hood can be easily attached. High-speed focusing is possible when this lens is used with dedicated APO 1.4x EX tele-converter. With the optional APO 1.4x EX tele-converter, this lens becomes a 140mm to 420mm F5.6 AF zoom. With the APO 2.0x EX tele-converter, a manual focus zoom lens from 200mm to 600mm F8 is achieved.
