Questions & Answers

TRAVIS M : Will this lense work with and auto focus with my Nikon D3300? Thanks!!ANDREW R : Yes, this lens should work with the D3300.
MAURICE K : pls. compare the sigma 12x24 with the nikon 14x24, i have the d700?William C : Just recently purchased the Sigma 12-24mm lens for use with my Nikon D700 FF camera. I did own the Nikon 16-35mm f4 lens when I first purchased the D700 a few years ago. At first I did not like this Sigma. It is horrible in low light! However, after getting used to it and figuring out balancing it with higher ISO settings in low light, I have come to be really impressed with this lens. It is very sharp and the color/contrast is excellent. I am still learning to use this ultra wide lens. But as I did sell my 16-35mm Nikon, I am keeping this 12-24mm Sigma. It has allowed my photography to rise to a whole new level of creativity. This lens is a keeper!GORDON K : My experience with the Nikkor 14x24 has been excellent. The quality is unsurpassed. I became interested in this lens after several years of viewing Trey Ratcliff's website "StuckinCustoms.com" the 14x24 is his go to lens and after seeing his marvelous results, I was sold. His images changed my whole perspective on the use of this wide angle lens.DOUGLAS H : I have the Nikkor lens, along with a closet full of Nikon gear (D-90 and D-100). I really like the lens. Only downside is the front element is curved and therefore the lens will not take screw-on filter accessories. Otherwise a great product. Sorry, don't know about the Sigma to compare.ANDREW G : I bought this lens due to my D3X, an FX body. If memory serves, you have a DX body. Ergo, you could get a different lens, that is optimized for the DX sensor. On the other hand, this is an amazing lens. I am a professional, wedding photographer, and having a 2.8 fstop is worth every penny. Your Sigma can not open as wide, so it will perform differently. It is a nice lens, and got some good reviews. The nikon has the issue of no front filter ability, which is the only downfallDANIEL C : First off, I'm a Canon guy, so I can't give you specifics on the Nikon versions... but I do own a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 16-35mm which I guess could be considered the "rivaling equivalents" of the 14-24 and d700. The Sigma 12-24 is truly a great lens which produces top notch quality images... I have nothing bad to say about it. However, my one problem is that it doesn't go down to f/2.8 like my 16-35mm (and I'm assuming nikon's 14-24 goes down to that too). In scarce light, f/4.5 is a lonnng way from f/2.8 so instead of replacing my 16-35 (which was my original intention), I ended up just keeping both, using the Sigma when there's lots of light, and the 16-35 when there's less. If you don't mind cranking up the ISO, and have enough experience to actually notice the difference between 12 and 14mm I'd go with the Sigma. If you're like me and like to keep the ISO as low as possible, and actually don't have the experience to notice when 12mm is better than 14mm (i.e., you are not, nor intend to become a wide-angle expert), I'd go with the 14mm.XIANG Z : I got a Nikkor 14-24, I think this len is the best comparing with my 85/1.4 and 24-70. It is unbelievable shape. Even I do not have a Sigma, but I think if you are not short on cash. The Nikkor 14-24 is your best choice. BTW, 14mm is wide enough on a full frame dlsr.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?NELIO S : works great with our d3s full frame camera

Great wideangle lens

I have been using a Sigma 10-20mm for my Nikon D300S for real estate photography. I switch over to my Nikon D750 which is a full-frame sensor, and that was the main reason I purchased the Sigma 12-24mm lens. So far I'm very happy with the images I have taken with it.

A great specialty tool

This lens is far from a necessity for my usual work. It is one of the gems that set me apart from the crowd. At weddings, I use it with my camera on a monopod as high as I get can it to capture the reception in full swing. For a couple shoot, open it wide, hold it over a pair cuddling on the sand. Photoshop out your toes, and they will appear to have been shot from a helicopter on a private stretch of paradise. I will use these shots very sparingly and the unexpectedness of them brings instant delight to my clients. Over use it and it gets boring, really fast. Yes, it takes time to get it out. Yes, its more to carry. And yes, you will own one if you wish to lead the pack.

Don't use it much.

I don't use it much, but it gives dramatic effects. I use it on a Nikon D700. Best on full-frame.

Great value

I bought this when I discovered that my old 18-35 mm Nikkor that gave me such sweeping panoramas with my F100 became, in effect, a 27-52 on my digital bodies. I liked that this one covered the full 35mm format on my F100 and was half the preice of the Nikkor 12-24 when I bought it.

Terrific

I picked up this lens for my D70 a couple of years ago, it was great then! Now that I have a D700 the lens is just indispensable…… I love it. I have blown up a few shots as big as 24X36 and the quality is clearly evident. Solid centre to corner, no crop.

This lens is very good for ultra wide angle landscape phtoto, which I like very much. Good to have it from Adorama. The rating of the ocndition is quite accurate.

Fully compatible with all Nikon Digital SLR cameras including the D40 and D40X, the large angle of view of the Sigma 12-24 4.5/5.6 EX DG ASPH Zoom (122 degree super wide angle of view at 12mm along the diagonal axis) is ideal for shooting indoors as well as landscape photography. It has a variable angle of view from 122 degrees to 84.1 degrees.

Four Special Low Dispertion (SLD) glass elements are provided for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. Two pieces of Glass Mold and one-piece Hybrid aspherical lenses offer excellent correction for distortion as well as all types of aberration.

By effective arrangement of lens elements and advanced technology this lens has Super Compact dimensions of 100mm full-length, and 87mm Maximum Diameter. It is equipped with an Inner Focusing System that will keep the length of the lens unchanged, while controlling aberration.

The models which are equipped with the HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) System (only in Nikon, Canon and Sigma Camera Mounts) offer Full Time Manual Focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 28mm at all focal lengths. This lens is equipped with an integral Petal-Type Hood, to block out extraneous light.

What's in the box:

  • Built in Petal Shaped Lens Hood
  • Sigma Four-Year Warranty (Sigma One-Year Worldwide Warranty plus Sigma 3-Year Extended USA Warranty)
