badar a : HI Is it compatible with Canon T3i ? ThanksEMERY R : The one problem with this lens as I noted in my review is that between shots it will revert to a rest mode. When you go to use it again and frame your subject, after you push the shutter half way down, the lens wakes and the mechanism shifts, changing the composition. This is probably not a problem shooting hand-held, but for those who shoot frequently on a tripod, this is a constant annoyance. It happens even when the vibration reduction is off.EMERY R : I use it with a Nikon D300. It comes with mounts for Nikon or Canon DSLRs, but I don't know about the ins and outs of different Canon models. It works with all Nikon DSLR models.LEON J : I don't know as I have a Nikon D7000. It works great on this camera. My main everyday lens.YEUNG C : The one I purchased comes with a Nikon mount for my Nikon DSLR. So, I cannot answer your question.ARUNA B : No, this is a Nikon lens. But there will be a similar lens for Canon

great walkaround lens !

nice not having to change lenses. replaces both of my kit lenses which is great for backpacking and hiking. I also have a sigma 10-20 , and they both have a great feel.

Much to heavy

This is a nice lens, but it's just to heavy. Should have paid more for a lighter lens.

Great lens for weddings

I specialize in wedding and portrait photography. When I bought my Nikon D80 I realized that dust could be a problem so I bought the Sigma 18-200 OS so I would not have to change lenses and reduce the exposure to dust. It has never been removed from the D80. It is a great lens. I can use the wide angle from the balcony of a church and then zoom in for the ring exchange. Events happen fast at weddings and the wide zoom range of this lens is precious. I can't complain about the sharpness. My photos are acceptably sharp even at 16" x 24" and most clients order 11" x 17" or smaller. Sigma's Optical Stabilization really adds to sharpness in reducing blur from camera shake. Using the lens at the reception when they dim the lights has its problems. The lens is much slower focusing and the image is dim due the the small maximum aperture. Then I often find it necessary to switch to manual focusing (zone focusing) and shoot at wider angles to preserve depth of field. Colors and contrast are excellent. I have used it outdoors at weddings but not on vacations. It should be a great and versatile multi-purpose lens. I would recommend this lens to anyone, amateur, pro, or in-between.

Not Lite

Nice lens just a little heavy with a heavy Nikon D7000. If your on a budget like me buy it if not go for a lens that is lighter.

Great economy lens for all around shots

I like to use this lens to replace carrying two lens with me at special events and progams. It covers most types of shots that you need to take while moving about the event.

Can't Beat It!

Ok now just so you know I do not use this lens for my paid shoots but rather use my Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. I have installed this lens on my general use Nikon D300 that I bum around with. I must say though I am liking this lens so far. It does zoom the wrong way which gets a little weird but overall it is a nice lens for half the price as my Nikon.

For the price an excelent lens.

I got this lens together with my Nikon D90 camera. The first time I saw the lens I told myself...Wow...this lens looks great! It really is very well made for its price range. It looks much more expensive then what it is. Optically its a mix bag as all 11x zooms are. From 18-70mm more or less its excelent, then all of a sudden sharpness drops all the way to about 125mm where its consistent all the way to 200mm.It seems that the lens was design to be optically good at the extremes of its range,18mm and 200mm Where its less sharp its still decent, not overly soft nor anything like that. Colors are wonderfully reproduced as mostly all sigma lenses do,with a warm cast to it thats very aluring. In low light sometimes it tends to hunt for the focus which is understandable being it a very long zoom with not very open apertures. When new it did not have lens creep but after having used it for a while everytime I forget to lock the lens,(it has a lock to avoid lens creep) it extends by itself when upside down. One thing that I really like is the OS system.I can shoot hand held all the way to 2oomm at 1/30 which would be totally imposible for me if it weren't for the OS feature of the lens. After having used an optically stabilized lens there's no going back.I would not buy a long zoom lens without it. Other lenses from other manufacturers might be better at some things but taking into consideration its construction and quite good optical performance together with OS and its price its a winner.Almost forgot, its distortion caracteristics are very good for this type of lens, barrel and pin distortions are very well controled and cromatic aberrations are almost none existent. It is prone to some flare which using the supplied hood a necesity when shooting at a very sunny day.

Not so good

This is a typical do anything, but nothing well kind of lens. I bought it for my gal because she wanted to try a super ratio zoom. What a mistake. We got rid of it. I am suprised that people claiming to be pros or semi-pros would consider such. The purpose of an SLR is to have interchangeable lenses so you can apply the best task for the job. Sacrificing quality for convenience is like going back to a point and shoot.

Great all-purpose lens

This has been a great walk-around lens on my Nikon D40, replacing the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses in my camera bag. Pictures are as sharp and colorful as with the Nikon lenses that came with the camera. I like the lock that keeps the lens from creeping out, which is especially important since I use the BlackRapid R-Strap. My only complaints are that the lens is a bit heavy and there's a bit of hesitation when zooming in and out. It could be a bit smoother. (BTW, the R-Strap minimizes my complaint about the weight. Get the R-Strap!).

Nice budget lens

I would strongly recomend this lens speacially if your getting started. Compareable with the nikon version, Pros. OS works great, cons heavy. I dont recomend this if your using a d90 for video because it makes this annoying noise. I am aware of that so it didnot shock me. Hope this helps thanks.

Sharp and Contrasty

This lens produces sharp and contrasty images. A bit heavy but balances nicely on my D300. Great as a walk around lens when traveling. No complaints at present.

MY NEW BEST FRIEND!

This is a great addition to the camera bag,one that is versatile and allows those ever-important wider-angle close up shots! I use it for work (as the unofficial photographer) and for travel...it's leaving with me for Alaska in a few weeks, along with my other Sigma lenses. Best bang for the bucks...you won't regret this purchase!

General use

18-200 mm is really good general use. Whereever you go, u need only one lens. Cheap and pretty sharp aswel. But in my personal opinion, im not very happy with this lens, heavy and poor color tone.

So good, you'll name your kid Sigma!

I bought this lens specifically for a recent trip to London and Paris. I had travelled abroad in the past and was severely disappointed with the results from my Sony point and shoot, and decided I would upgrade to an entry level Nikon SLR D40X and upgrade the 50mm lens. I began comparing reviews between the Sigma and Nikon lenses and became concerned when I read some complaints about the Sigma's weight, battery drain and glass quality. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't listen to those reviews. The lens is fantastic and accomplishes everything I could want in a lens for a great price. I carried this camera in a Crumpler bag along with an SB-600 flash, my point and shoot Sony, plus accessories, and never felt any shoulder strain from the weight. There simply wasn't any noticeable additional battery drain. In two weeks of constant shooting I only recharged once. Regarding glass quality... give me a break! If you can tell a difference between Nikon and Sigma's glass quality then you shouldn't be buying lenses, you should be making them. Even if you don't name your kid Sigma, you'll never regret buying this lens.

Bought instead of the Nikon 18-200, and not disappointed at all. The lens may not be quite as fast for night use, but not significant in my opinion. Very, very sharp, and much less cost.

makes life easier

I use this lens as my everyday lens. I have alot of grandkids and they are involved in sports. Have used in basketball gyms but must turn iso up to high or adjust exposure comp, so pictures are to grainy. This is not the lens fault through. It will stop all motion and forcus is very good. For what it is intended for it is a very good lens.

Replaced 2 Nikon Lenses

I read review after review about this lens vs the Nikon 18-200mm lens. I has 3 concerns: The zoom creep on the Nikon (Sigma has a lock), The constant negative rumers about Sigma quality control (I have 3 other Sigma Lenses and am impressed with the sharpness, focus and build quality on each of them including this Sigma 18-200 OS lens. The other concern was the slower speed at 200mm. As it turns out I don't shoot much at 200mm in low light. It's not as sharp as a prime lens, but is way better than the Nikon 18-55 kit lens. I have shot over 700 photos with this lens (none with a tripod as the OS really works) I have included 2 photos shot with this lens

Best all purpose lens yet

This is the best lens with this great range of focal lengths that we have seen. It is great for travel, although a bit heavy. It is sharper at 200mm (300mm in 35mm talk) than other lenses we have used. The optical stabilization is a plus. We prefer it to the Nikon 18-200 because Nikon omitted the distance scale on the focusing ring and we like the metal to metal mounting of the Sigma better than the plastic mount on the Nikon.

Good Alternative to Higher Priced Nikon

I bought this lens for use as a general purpose/walkaround lens on a D200. I opted for the Sigma over the Nikon 18-200 mostly due to price. I have been pleasantly surprised by the image quality/sharpness of this lens, especially in close-ups at the long end. The HSM AF is very fast and accurate, though maybe not quite as fast as Nikon's AF-S lenses. I haven't tested the lens in low light so I can't say how effective the Optical Stabilization is, or how it compares to Nikon's VR lenses. Image quality has to be compromised somewhat in order to cover this wide a focal range, but all-in-all I think I'll get plenty of good images that I would miss with other lenses due to not enough (or too much) focal length. I tend to get buyer's remorse after buying anything relatively expensive, but I have no regrets over buying this lens.
