Questions & Answers

RAQUEL H : Does it work on latest model Pentax K-1?STEVEN M : Existing lenses designed for Pentax APS-C sensor size can of course be used on the Pentax K1, certainly in APS-C crop mode. Some of these even fill the full frame, or nearly so, at least over some portion of the range, so the full frame sensor can be mostly, perhaps even fully utilized (though with likely quality limitations)Michael B : One of the nice things about Pentax and why I chose them over Canon and Nikon years ago is that only one time in there history have they changed mounts. In the 70's they went from a screw mount to the current mount. You can get some really nice old glass that works great on the newest Pentax models. This lens will do fine on your camera.ROBERT F : The sigma 18-35 will work on the K1 in full frame mode from about 28-35mm.STEPHAN B : Short answer is no. This is designed to work with a cropped sensor camera and u will see the outside of the lens on a full frame when open all the way...now it will work for a limited zoom capability only zoomed all the way in.....DAIGO O : It perfectly works with crop mode. With fullframe mode, you will get significant vignetting.WAYNE H : Not totally. From around 25-35 covers the sensor.SCOTTY B : Yes, though it will vignette badly below 28ish mm, so it is best used in crop mode.
Shopper : I have a K3, will this lens work good under low light indoors?WILLY C : It works really well for low light indoors. Most Aperture 1.8 does.KATHY M : I also have the K3 and the lens does work well in low light indoors. Depending on the lighting you'll have to bump up the ISO but the K3 handles higher ISOs pretty well.ANDY W : I have tried it a few times it seems to perform very well. Happy with itSTEVEN M : Yes it works great in low light if you have it set on F 1.8 . I put my camera in TAv mode . The TAv mode lets you pick the Aperture like 1.8 and It lets you pick the shutter speed . If the things your wanting to take photos of in low light are not moving you can use a shutter speed down to 60 . The TAv mode will pick the iso it need to get the right exposure . Pick the range of iso that your happy with On my k3 I go to 12,800 . But at 1.8 and 60 It has to be pretty dark before it picks 12,800 and most of the time it picks 6400 and the photo look really good with plenty of exposure . I don't go below 60 shutter speed if I'm hand holding . I consider low light as being in a room 12x12 with no lights on in the room and a over head 100 watt light in the next room putting some light in the 12x12 room .DANIEL S : Yes and no , yes this is a great lens will blow u away on its clarity and depth of field. You have to know u camera to make it shine in low light. Buy the lens u cant belive how it will open up your close and low light and DOF . DANIELSTEPHAN B : Simple answer, "yes". U can shoot indoors hand held with out a flash for most cases. 1- there is a world of improvement in light gathering from a f2.8 to this f1.8 lens....but it is not magic....so no light is still no light 2. The k3 can take low noise higher iso pics so u have that advantage....recommend not going above 6400. Lower it to 1600 first if u have enough light 3. Shoot as Slow of a shutter speed that your subject will allow....if shooting still objects then consider a tripod.... 4. Shoot RAW 5. Use aperature-priority set to 1.8, works best when at 35mm or widest zoom....allows most light 6. In cases where u need a faster shutter speed, expect that u may need to increase the expose in post processing....hence the benefit of shooting RAW. Btw I shoot a lot with this lens.....makes great pics on my k3 or k5Daniel A : Being a constant f1.8 lens it's very fast for aps-c. The equivalent of a f2.8 on full frame. The lens has a smooth focus and doesn't hunt too much in low light. Also has nice bokeh when wide open. Works well in low light similar to my manual 50 mm.ROBERT F : This is a very good lens with the K3 in low light and even better with the K3II.RICK O : Absolutely, this lens is amazing in low light. Still my main lens probably 80% of the time.SCOTTY B : It works great for me on my K3 with no front or back focusing issues. I use it for anime conventions, so low light and indoors.PAUL V : This lens with a K3 is an excellent choice for a low light situations. I think it's one of the best low light lenses in its focal range.
Shopper : Is this lens good for taking picture of painting?JUNG O : 1. There is no sharper 50mm F1.2 for EF that can be used all other system using adapter. 2. Price is now sharply down, so half price with competitors. 3. Corner sharpness is very sharp with small amount of purple fringe at F1.2 just behind RF 50mm F1.2 which is the sharpest 50mm ever produced in the market.OLEKSANDR K : Sigma Art 70mm Why don't they go on sale for so long? Best Regards,AlexKALEESWARA S : yes, the perspective is wide and it is perfect for painting !Armando M : YesJAMES C : I agree with the 50mm or 85mm recommendation and I would prefer 85mm. Normal vision on a full frame sensor would be a 42.3mm lens. Anything less than that would be wide angle and stretch the edges of the painting as all wide angle lenses do. The exception would be if you are in a small room where you can't take the painting from the wall and can't get far enough away. Then I'd probably use a 24-70 and go the least wide as possible. Remember, the diagonal of a 35mm x 24mm sensor is 42.3mm so any wider than that is stretching the edges, and the wider you go, the faster it will stretch the edges.JOHN D : I can't adviseConnie E : I loved it at fist then it stopped focusing on point with my 1DX. Works fine with my 5dmarkiv. I would say you need a 50 though as you have to be further away w this.GARY C : YesCHARLES J : No. If you are talking about professional work, you need a flat-field lens. Use a 50mm macro lens for this purpose. If it's casual and not for critical work, all the other answers here make sense for that use. Best wishes.CHARLES G : YesCHRIS H : This is a very sharp lens and I would think it would be one of the best choices for paintings. Especially if used with a tripod. Good luck.ROBERT H : Using at least two light sources to eliminate any shadows is the important thing and then you should get good results with any decent lens if you make sure that your camera is positioned so that you don’t introduce any unwanted distortion.ROBERT B : This will be the best lens you ever buy and will be great for any use!James J : Is painting work of art? Yes. If not, No.ROBERT R : I am a photojournalist and photograph art work and projects frequently. If I have the room I use my 70-200 or a 24-105. If you step back further from the painting it will be easier to square up the photo without distorting it by being close with a wide angle.Robert W : If you can get farther away from the painting, a less wide angle lens, such as the excellent (and cheaper) AF-S 35mm f1.8g will give you much better result. Especially in low light. I recommend you get the 35mm lens no matter what. Get this lens only if you need wide angle performance.DEMARCUS D : I think someone was making a joke. "Art Lens", asking if it's "good at taking pictures of paintings"... Get it? LOLAlex F : If you're trying to take a photo of a painting, I would recommend a more portrait length lens (to avoid distortion). Try a 50 or 85mm, and when shooting try to get as "square" to the painting as possible. Place the painting next to a window for soft even light, and turn off interior lights to avoid color temp mix.Eugene F : Sigma lenses are fairly cheap as far as price but they do not have good reputations.HOWARD K : any lens will do that.........JOSHUA S : any lens is good for taking photos of paintings. Id get a super sharp 50mm thats inexpensive but if you want a f/1.8 lens that has a great range for any occasion.LEE P : never used itDANIEL T : I bought a Zuiko (for Olympus E3), 12-60 mm, f/2.8 zoom lens and used it quite successfully in National Museum of Art in Washington, DC. They did not allow flash photography, so I set my ISO at 1200, opened the lens to f/2.8 and made a lot of shots. The only problem I had was with keystoning on some of the larger paintings. I was able to correct this in Photoshop. Since the Olympus is a 4/3 system, it may be different for your camera, but I would think it should work; especially when you use f/1.8. The paintings in most art galleries are very well lit.EDWARD C : It should do well for that. I really don't know anything about this particular lens. I have an Olympus lens. Sigma makes some good lenses and that one should be good to photograph pictures.

Sigma 18-35

I'm not usually the type to write reviews for the gear I use, but the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens has impressed me so much that I feel compelled to share my experience. This might be the first-and possibly only-lens review I'll ever write. I've had this lens since 2023, and while I dabble in photography occasionally, my main focus is video work. Paired with my Canon R7, this lens has elevated my content to another level. Whether I'm shooting cinematic sequences, documentary-style footage, or short-form reels for social media, the image quality is consistently stunning. The sharpness, color rendering, and beautiful depth of field are just what you want when you're aiming for a professional look. What really sets this lens apart is its versatility. The 18-35mm focal range on an APS-C sensor is incredibly useful-it gives me enough wide-angle for vlogging or landscape shots and the ability to zoom in for more intimate or portrait-style frames, all without changing lenses. The constant f/1.8 aperture is a game-changer for low-light situations and creating a shallow depth of field. That creamy bokeh is just gorgeous. Build-wise, this thing is solid. The ART series by Sigma is known for quality, and this lens lives up to that reputation. It feels durable, premium, and ready for fieldwork. It's not the lightest lens out there, but for what it delivers, the weight is worth it. Autofocus is fast and reliable, and although it's not a native Canon RF lens, it performs incredibly well with an adapter. I haven't had any major issues-focus is accurate, and transitions are smooth enough for video work. If you're a content creator, filmmaker, or hybrid shooter looking for a lens that punches way above its price point, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is a must-have. I genuinely believe it's one of the best investments I've made in my video gear setup.

New favorite

This lens is fantastic. It's like having 4 primes in one. Quickly became a favorite and go-to for car shows, hiking, and concerts. Great sharpness and lovely bokeh at wide angles. Complements a 70-200 very nicely, I prefer it to a 24-70.

Great lens, bad lens cap!

I'm very satisfied with the quality of the lens itself, but I'm dissatisfied with the lens cap. It is hard to snap on and will come off with the slightest jarring.

OK lens

It's a good lense to have around if you need that range. Not the sharpest of clearest images Lot of noise. But when I needed it, I found it to function well.

Adorama didn't clearly describe condition

I give this 3 stars not because of Sigma and the image quality that comes out of this lens, but because of Adorama not clearly describing the condition of this lens. Got it used and focus ring slips and isn't smooth. I got it looked at it was going to cost $250 to fix. I bought the lens for $450.

Excellent Lens

Is a fantastic lens. 1.8 f-stop can get a shallow depth of field even with the wide angle. Image is sharp and clean with little distortion.

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art Lens

Must say, this lens is quite heavy but fills good in your hand. The lens is very bright and super crisp pictures. Shooting wide open is refreshingly nice yet better at f/2.8. I purchased this lens based on reviews when paired with my 90D. I've not taken it off the camera yet! Love it!

Still my most used lens

I've had this lens for quite some time now and it's still my go-to piece of glass I use on just about every project. Super sharp, super fast, and wonderfully built. I only wished it had stabilization inside the lens but considering the cost, I'm not too surprised.

Good upgrade from kit lens

I wanted a lens that was a little sharper than my kit lens that came with my Canon T7i. The image quality is good, but the only thing that I would consider to be a negative is the 16-35mm versus the 17-55mm that I was accustomed to.

Best lens I?ve owned !

This lens is so much better than the canon lenses I had before ! I bought it specifically to shoot the northern lights in Alaska. It does an amazing job at 1.8 and low ISO to avoid noisy and grainy photos. And it is wide enough to shoot the Aurora in the vast sky.

FEATURED REVIEWS

Fast Sigma zoom is a must have.

By RONALD C.

I just received my Sigma 18-35 F/1.8 zoom and it promptly payed it's way on a recent shoot. I spent a full day shooting candid action in a poorly lit auditorium, and came out with tack sharp images that would have been impossible with a slower lens. I've used Nikkor lenses for over 40 years, but the quality of this Sigma lens rivals the best that Nikon has to offer. As with all fast glass, the lens is as bit on the heavy side, but it will become a regular in my bag. I trav...

Best Lens I have for landscapes

By CHRIS A.

Using this on the Sony A77ii. Photos come out large and crisp, and I can crop down to a small area and still retain the clarity. You won't be sorry!

Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8

Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8.

A large-aperture fixed focal length lens is great for achieving expressive bokeh effects and enjoying ultra-high optical performance. On the other hand, photographers often need to change the angle of view to properly capture the scene that presents itself. To solve this decades-long dilemma, SIGMA proudly introduces the 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM next-generation large-aperture APS-C format standard zoom lens for digital SLR cameras. Taking on the challenge of creating the world’s first wide-aperture lens to offer an aperture of F1.8 throughout the zoom range, SIGMA has succeeded in creating a zoom lens that offers the same high optical performance of a fixed focal length lens. These outstanding performance characteristics are especially apparent in an APS-C format camera, since it has a slightly greater depth of focus than a full-frame camera. This is a revolutionary lens that overturns preconceptions while expanding the range of photographic expression.

Hyper Sonic Motor

The Hyper Sonic Motor provides fast, quiet and smooth auto focusing that is well-suited for use with video applications. This AF motor can also be manually overridden at any time by rotating the focusing ring, giving you the ability to fine-tune image sharpness through manual focusing.

27119bayonet_mount_01486.jpg

High-Precision, Rugged Brass Bayonet Mount.

The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its treated surfaces and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens.

27119flare_73886.jpg

Flare & Ghosting Reduction.

From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood can be attached to block out extraneous light, which can have a negative effect on rendering performance.

Features.

  • One aspherical lens element, as well as the incorporation of SLD glass, help to minimize the appearance of distortions and aberrations throughout the zoom range and provide clear imagery with enhanced sharpness
  • Constructed using a TSC compound material, this lens is lightweight while also exhibiting notable durability and resistance to environmental changes
  • An internal focusing and zooming mechanism helps to maintain a consistent overall lens length and a non-rotating front ring facilitates more efficient use of circular polarizers
  • Compatible with Sigma's USB Dock and Sigma Optimization Pro software for fine-tuning your lens' performance, updating its firmware and better suiting it to your needs
