For me this is a specialty lens for those atmospheric shots that draw you in - low light, shallow depth of field, the candle light dinner, the pensive portrait where the eyes tell the story. I use mine on the grand old Oly E-1 which was made for night club photo - yes this is a heavy lens, but it is like it was made for the E-1. An affordable choice for low light shooting in the 4 thirds format. It provides a sharp f1.8 with an acceptable wide angle - hard to come in this format. With the Beautiful top of the line Sigma Finish and Very solid build - I'm very happy.

I wanted a lens with good lowlight performance and thought I'd give the 24mm f1.8 Sigma a shot. The Leica 25mm cost more than twice this lens and I wanted a prime faster than the 25mm pancake. With a lack of prime selection I ordered my Sigma. It's film days base means that it's size is larger than most Oly's being larger than my 11-22 or 14-54. I was warned that it's not the quietest motor which didn't really matter to me because the image performance is what I was after. I was glad to find that it's actually not noisy, but it's not as quiet as the upgraded Oly motors which is a truly unimportant point in images. The build is very solid, the texture is followed through the lens hood and on manual focus gives it a nice grip instead of being completely smooth. Finally the image quality in my review... it's fantastic. The lens performs beautifully and delivers incredible bokeh. With a very shallow depth of field it is a wonderful portrait and creative lens. Focusing at about 7" gives you many options for creativity. I'm very happy with my purchase and can do exactly what I needed from this lens. It's not the fastest, smallest or lightest but I cannot see twice the price giving me better pictures. For me a prime means more composed and thought out shots for which this lens delivers where it counts... THE IMAGES. I'd recommend this lens hands down. There's not a whole lot more you could get from a lens unless you just want the Leica name on your lens or have a lot of extra money to spend. Two thumbs up for a great performer at a truly wonderful price. I would definitely try another Sigma after this and I hope they expand their 4/3 lineup.

Sigma 24mm f1.8 Ex DG Aspherical Macro is one of the EX Series lenses. This lens has a fast F1.8 maximum aperture with macro focusing capability of minimum focusing down to 18cm/7.1inches (reproduction ratio 1:2.7). The iris diaphragm has 9 diaphragm blades to obtain beautiful out of focus image. It incorporates the floating focus system and uses two aspherical lens elements for minimizing distortion and spherical aberration and astigmatism. Internal focus system eliminates front lens rotation, thus allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and the easy use of polarizing filters. The lens incorporates non-vignetting optical construction, in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness even at open aperture. This is desirable for digital cameras. The lens also incorporates dual-focus mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, and yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.
