I have been unable to find another 28mm lens with this kind of aperture. Sadly, the Sigma cannot autofocus well in moderate-to-low light.

I bought this lens to use at ComicCon 2011. I am very, VERY pleased with the results! The bokah is terrific, focus is spot on with my D700. The lens is sharp in the center which makes it great candids and street/PJ photography. I don't shoot landscape so I can't comment there. I've read reports that the corners are soft. I shoot wide open all the time to isolate my subject, therefore my corners are out of focus anyway, so I can't comment, but don't care either. It is on my camera probably 70% of the time now. I have also used it on a D7000 with no problem, but I've read that people with older version have to have it rechipped. Fortunately the latest doesn't have this problem. If you have a Nikon FX camera, this lens is fantanstic if used in a similar fashion as I do. If you shoot landscape, you probably want something wider. If you have a DX, I'd stay with the Nikon 35mm 1.8G.

This is a wondeful, fast 28mm. Sigma builds great products. I get great results for landscapes and industrial photo projects. On the downside, focus can be slow, and the lens is heavy.

While the Price is right, i would suggest folks to get a Nikon 85mm or the Nikon 35mm, instead fo this sigma 28mm. This lens creates soft images from 1.8 to 4, then the images look "OK"...... good for the price, but not as sharp as i needed it to be.... Taking back to the store and picking up a 85mm 1.8

This lens is a real sleeper on the market. I use a Nikon D3X, which is absolutely unforgiving of lens flaws. This lens is very sharp in the center wide open, with softer corners of course. Close down a few stops and the corners get very good. On a DX crop, it is sharp everywhere, at every stop, and equals a 42mm in FX format. It is a perfect lens for indoor work, focuses fast and very quietly(though not silently). A real bargan and light years sharper than Nikons AF 28mm f2.8. Try one!

This lens is great for photographing people without flash. I sometimes set my camera to B&W so I don't have to worry about correct color casts, and skin tones. The photos look great.

This is a great Lens but I am having problems with it. Picture quality is great when it's working and my only complaint out of the box was the size and weight of this lens. But now the bad stuff... I use this with my D300 and after about the 2nd week of use this lens would cause my D300 to lock up and give me an ERR message. Then after the ERR message is gone it won't focus right until I remove and re-attach it. Not all the time but intermittently. But enough to cause me to choose other lenses over this one for a day of shooting. I tried to re-produce the message with my other lenses with no luck. So I'm in the process of contacting Sigma for warranty [...]. Bottom line is I may have the 1 out of a million that was a lemon but that's enough to make me pass on buying another Sigma lens for now. But again in the first couple weeks of use I was very impressed by the image quality.

I got this lens on a whim because I was not satisfied with my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 in terms of its ability to shoot low light, I always felt like f/2.8 was not fast enough and that I needed something like a f/1.8 that could shoot wide angle. I am happy to report that this lens has been everything I expected of it and more, no visible distortion, no CA, or ghosting. The only drawback is that its huge and heavy

I have gotten some really amazing images with this lens when I am employing it as a Macro. And it makes a great option for low light scenarios because of its 1.8 aperture. Where I have problems is when I am using it as a wide angle lens to capture wide scenes I sometimes get whole shoots back and find that they were not as sharp as they should have been. I think the issue is not the glass because this is not always the case but instead I have found that I cannot rely on the auto focus and manually focusing is very touchy because even a tap on the focus ring equals a great deal of plane change. Great for macro, less great for wideangle

A sleeper hut!

Features minimum focusing, down to 20cm/7.9inches (reproduction ratio 1:2.9). The iris diaphragm has 9 diaphragm blades to obtain beautiful out of focus image. It incorporates the floating focus system and the use of two aspherical lens elements to minimize distortion, spherical aberration and astigmatism. The lens incorporates minimum vignetting optical construction in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness with open aperture. Internal focus system of the lens eliminates front lens rotation, thus allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and easy use of polarizing filters. The lens also incorporates a dual-focus mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, and yet provides adequate torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.
