I've only had this lens for a very short while and I am very happy with my choice. I got this as a replacement for an older Canon 28-80mm kit lens and the difference is very noticeable. The images are much sharper with improved contrast and color. I also have the amazing Canon nifty-fifty f/1.8 that I love to use and it seems to rival that in image quality. With the improved quality comes weight. Compared to my kit lens the Sigma is heavier, but the build quality is also much much better, so for me it's a fair trade off. I have a wedding and a senior portrait session soon and I look forward to putting the Sigma through a good workout.

due to budget constraints and the need for a fast lens, i chose this one because it fit both requirements. i chose it over the tamron 17-50 f/2.8 because the focal range was flexible for my needs (a wedding). i already had a wide angle sigma lens and was pleased with it's results. after using this lens for a full day wedding and several weeks for general use, i can recommend it to anyone needed a fast lens at a decent price. we can't all afford the canon version, so this makes for a good compromise. the sharpness is a bit soft, but can be easily fixed up later in post processing. the lens has some weight to it and has a good feel to it.

I use this lens to shoot weddings and concerts in low light. It has performed well. I did need to have the focusing ring repaired once, but I use my gear pretty hard. If I could afford the Canon lens I would have definitely gone with it, but I would buy another Sigma product based on my experience with this lens.

This is the world's smallest, large and constant aperture zoom lens and is idealfor digital SLR cameras. The power layout of the lens is specially optimized fordigital SLR cameras, and Super Multi Coating gives superb color performance whilst cutting down flare and ghost.
Two SLD elements and four aspherical lenses provide the ultimate correction against distortion as well as all types of aberration, especially spherical aberration. Its advanced optical design ensures high performance throughout the entire zoom range.
The use of aspherical lenses in the construction of this lens not only corrects aberrations but also produces a very small and lightweight lens design. Its compact, yet robust, construction has an overall length of 87.2mm (3.4in.), maximum diameter of 74mm (2.9in.), filter size of f67mm and weight of 510g(18.0 ounces). It has a minimum focusing distance of 33cm (13 in.) at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.4 which is very convenient for close-up photography.
The inner focus system allows the lens to be focused without rotating the front element, therefore a Petal-type hood and circular polarizing filters can easilybe used.
