Ciara P : The descriptions say this "is equivalent to 45mm on a crop sensor" you mean this is not a true 30mm? So is the Nikon 35mm 1.8 actually a wider frame than this 30mm? Is this compatible with the d5000? Does this have the auto/manual switch? On the product demo video I saw the switch, but it's not shown on any of the product pictures. Thanks!!AARON R : Clara, It's 30mm which is equal to roughly 45mm on a standard DX DSLR, such as the D5000/5100/5200. The Nikon 35mm is not a wider frame, it's the equivalent of a 60mm, roughly. Take whatever the focal length of a DX lens and multiply by 1.5, which is the standard crop for Nikon DX cameras. Yes, it's compatible with the 5000/5100/7000/7100. And it's a great lens!GERMAN O : Hello, For the first wonder could not answer it correctly, I am not a professional photographer who could give a more accurate answer to this question. What if you could say it is compatible with the Nikon D5000. Do not have the switch auto / manual (For this reason buy the lens so that said he had this switch). The lens focuses automatically, so you have to have patience unpoco to do the autofocus. Thank you.CHARLES P : The lens is equivalent to a 45mm on a Nikon crop sensor (a DX camera) but is a true 30mm on a full frame (a FX) camera. There is no auto/manual switch on the lens. I did not like this lens initially as some of my pictures looked a little out of focus. I then found an auto focus fine tuning adjustment in my D7000 and was able to get the focus very sharp. I shot sports so sharp is really important in low light conditions. Hope that helps.Kevin S : This is only a "true" 30mm on full frame cameras. All lenses are marked this way. If you have a Nikon it's a 45mm bc it's 30mm x (crop factor) 1.5 = 45mm. Nikon 35mm 1.8G = 52mm bc (35mm x 1.5 ) = 52mm so it's narrower by 7mm. Hope this helps!!
Cynthia L : does this work for canon cameras?LANCE M : they generally have the same lines 1 for Nikon 1 for Canon 1 for Olympus etcetera etcetera. You need to search for those lines with the Canon designationHAROLD M : It's available with a Canon mount; make sure you get the right one. If you're in doubt, just call their 800 phone number. Adorama's a first class vendor and they're very helpful. This is a razor sharp lens with excellent optics, but at f1.4 you'll have a shallow depth of field. It may take some practice and dedication, but the results you'll get are worth the effort. Good luck.KELLY E : This lens has a Nikon mount, but it is also available with a Canon mount.DEREK G : No, this particular lens is a Nikon F mount and will not mount to Canon cameras. You need one with with an EF mount, like this- http://www.adorama.com/US%20%20%20%20546168.html There is only a used copy available from Adorama. There is a new version of the lens that should be available soon if you don't want to buy used. Adorama won't let me link to the manufacturer's site so go to Sigma's site and look and you'll find the new version as well as the old.
Shopper : Does this lens work with a Nikon D5100? Please i'm just starting. Thanks!Ciara P : When you say "is equivalent to 45mm on a crop sensor" you mean this is not a tru 30mm? So is the Nikon 35mm 1.8 actually a wider frame than this 30mm? Is this compatible with the d5000 Does this have the auto/manual switch? On the product demo video I saw the switch, but it's not shown on any of the product pictures. Thanks!!TROY F : Though I don't own a D5100, I don't see why it wouldn't. It has a built in focus motor, so focusing shouldn't be an issue on your camera body.DEREK G : Yes, your D5100 should be able to focus fine with this lens. Your camera does lack a screw motor for focus, so any Nikon lenses that are AF and not AF-S will not focus, but HSM is Sigma's equivalent of AF-S. HSM stands for hypersonic motor. I own one and use it with my D300 and love it. It's a great lens with good sharpness and contrast. You should enjoy it as a more realistic comparison to the 50 1.8 on full frame. The 30 1.4 is equivalent to 45mm on a crop sensor, so it's much better as an all purpose lens than the 50mm on crop, which is somewhat on the tele side at 75mm on Nikon DX.HAROLD M : Yes, it works perfectly. I got it for my D40, and have since upgraded to the D5100. All my lenses are interchangeable.CIOCAN S : I have no clue. Sorry .... I use it with a D3100 and it works perfectly. I would assume, therefore it does as well with the D5100, but I cannot be 100% sure. He this helps,

About Sigma 30mm F/1.4

Fully compatible with all Nikon Digital SLR cameras including the D40 and D40X, this large aperture 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM lens is designed to match the APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. Two SLD glass elements are especially effective in the compensation of magnification chromatic aberration.

Glass mold aspherical lens at rear group of lens reduces color aberration and provides high-quality image results.

From 40cm (15.7") minimum focusing distance to infinity, this lens creates very sharp images with high contrast.

The HSM models provide quiet high-speed auto-focus shooting, as well as full-time manual focus. Large Maximum Aperture of F1.4 can perform superbly in a great range of applications, including snapshots, portraiture, indoor shooting and landscape photography.

Please Note:
Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras.
