I had been searching for a 70-200 f/2.8 for some time. I did my research and knew I wanted the Sigma over the Tamron (due to improved focusing). I took this lens with me to Germany just a few days after recieving it. It did a fantastic job.

bought "used" in excellent+ condition. great price. great bang for the buck if you can do without OS.

It is a great product overall. However it can be slow in focusing when used at indoors and when I try to following moving objects using my Nikon D300s. In bright sunlight it works perfect!

I have been very satisfied with the performance of this Lens. The lans maybe a little heavy, but is sturdy enough to take some abuse that may come with outdoor shooting.

This is truly a super lens. The only thing I wish it had that it don't is "OS". I mostly use it on a Tri-pod. It is heavy.

First "big glass" and happy so far. Shooting Friday Night Lights and indoor volleyball proves to be no problem with this lens.

I shoot Texas high school football and rodeos and this lens works well for the low light situations I run into.Reasonably fast focus and works as well as the Nikkon 70-200 2.8 I was borrowing. Very happy with it.

This is truly an outstanding lens. Personally I found color rendition rather nice - if warmer than most Nikon lenses - and bokeh excellent. Even though this 70-200 is not a true macro, it will hold its own in a pinch. The lens exhibits some chromatic aberration fully open, but I've found it actually adds a nice retro look to the image and its gone by around f/4. Focusing is fast, steady and almost silent. Focus hunting only becomes an issue in really, really bad light and low contrast conditions; but you can override manually simply by grabbing the focus ring. This is not a light lens by any means, but it is a pleasure to handle as it is well balanced and built to last.

I use this lens for shooting High School Soccer. It is very fast to focus and is dead on sharp starting at f4. Why pay twice the price for a Nikon brand lens when this lens does just as good as the higher priced lens. Yes the lens is heavy... But just like all other 70-200 f2.8's out there.

This lens does it all. Great for anything and perfect for everything. You couldn't ask for better lens. I have never shot with the Nikon version, but I am sure it would go head to head for at least some of the way. During a wedding, I have used this lens for the entire day. Never left my camera once. I even have a D5000 that i still own and you would never know if i was shoot with a D3S or the D5000 the images are that good. If you are in the market for a perfect all around lens then this lens is what you are looking for.

This is a great lens but not as good as the Nikon 70-200 VR. I miss the VR for long shots. Shooting at 200mm makes any movement or shakes pronounced. Even shooting at 1/500, sometimes will produced motion blur so be sure to have a stead hand or monopod. Bokeh is BEAUTIFUL! Nice round blurred background and very sharp subject when you get it right. Its not the fastest focus but it can keep up with a 3 year old running with a ball. Great bang for the buck, until you save enough to get a better one.

I'm still getting to know this lens but so far I'm very impressed. Very fast, dead-silent AF on my Nikon D300. Great option if you don't require VR.

Having only used this lens once I am already in love with it! I had originally purchased a different one and returned it as it felt 'flimsy' to me ... this guy is built solid and and surprisingly easy to control without a tripod. The fotos taken, while admittedly I have a lot to learn, are quite breath-taking (if I say so myself) ... I am a macro-addict and this lens certainly meets my expectations.

I've shot with the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR both previous and the latest generation VR II, and this Sigma 70-200MM f2.8 HSM II on my Nikon D300. The Nikon latest generation was the best, but I just couldn't justify the price (over two grand) and weight. The Tamron is heavy and slow to focus. The Sigma's HSM is quiet and pretty quick. Optically, the Sigma matches the previous generation Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 in non-VR mode. I also discovered that there's NO loss of quality using the Sigma 1.4x APO converter (just one stop of light.) This great deal for the price and highly recommended.

Just got this a week ago. Use it on a Nikon D60. Replaced my kit lens. I used it at indoor soccer and basketball games. I got pictures that I could never get with my kit lens. 2.8 is great. So far, better than I had expected

Sweet rig. I run a D5000 (odd combo I know)and it doesn't get much better. AF is quick, as good an a 70-200 2.8L in good light on a 40D, In low light, It slows quite a bit although when I ran it on a D300 it improved drastically. I use it primarily for news photgraphy, which is everything under the sun that can be phototgraphed and have found only 1 flaw, which is common with almost all lenses I've used, It will not focus when pointed at something with little or no contats.

I use this product for Waterfalls and Wildlife photography. This lens focuses very fast, and sharp. The only draw back so far is no image stabiliation, but this is not that big of a deal because I use a tripod most of the time. Also it's heavy.

This is a really great lens for all kinds of photos. It really shines when you need to get this up close from afar. Very sharp. Love the F2.8

This lens is more than what I expected. It focuses fast and it is built very well. The Picture quality is excellent. I use this lens along with the 1.4TC to photograph my daughters soccer games. I choose the Sigma 70-200 because I couldn't justify the expense of the Nikon 70-200 VR. So far I am happy with my choice.

Don't even look at the price just BUY this lens! I'm studying under a pro wedding photog and when she let me use this lens I got my favorite pics from the entire wedding! It works great for low light and is awesome for candids, it gives you the distance to catch people being themselves. And even shooting from a distance the f stop is 2.8 raked out so you still keep the amazing bokeh the whole time! This lens is a must have and everyone who is serious into photography that I talk to has this lens, it's a must for all camera bags, so stop reading this review and buy it already!

This lens has done very well. I have owned it now for around 8 months. It does not have any OS or VR and that does hurt as you will need to carry a tripod at times. This lens is heavy, so if you think you can hold it steady at 200mm think again. The 2.8 stop is wonderful making it work great in low light. Sports and area shots are awesome. I use it on my D80 and its work horse. The only downside is weight. You will know its there after a few hours of walking around with it.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to present the APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM. This large aperture zoom lens has improved optical performance and retains close-up ability with a minimum focusing distance of 39.4" / 100cm, and maximum magnification ration of 1:3.5.
This lens is suitable for taking all type of subjects such as portraits, landscape, and close-up pictures. Two SLD "Special Low Dispersion" and three ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations.
High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF as well as full-time manual focusing capability.
The lens design incorporates an inner focusing and inner zooming systems. The overall length of the lens does not change during focusing and zooming, ensuring convenient handling. A removable tripod collar (TS-21) is included as a standard component.
When this lens is used with the optional 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters, it becomes a 98-280mm F4 AF telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 AF telephoto zoom lens respectively.
