Other than the autofocus motor being a bit loud when shooting video, this is a terrific lens. I use it for wildlife, airshows, & daytime sporting events. Fast focus, sharp, & light. Manual focus ring is smooth. Great zoom on a budget.

although I did not buy this from Adorama, I wish I had waited, it is now [$] cheaper than the sale price I paid. Anyway, this lens ROCKS, check out the pics, right out of the camera, nothing done to them........those nay sayers, dont know what they find bad, but this lens is great.

A great lens at this price. I am using it for all around use on a D1. Sharp and quick focusing that outdid the Ni-con lens I have. Great details on Macros. One of the neat things about this lens is that you can manual focus and manually set the aperture! More flexibility is always a good thing. The only thing that concerned me was it's lifespan, but with the manual aperture and focusing, I can see it being around my gear for awhile. At this price/feature range it is a steal.

This is a great zoom lens for the beginner. I've heard people bash it 'cause it's a slow lens, but if you want an f/2.8 you better pony up 12x as much money. For me it's perfect, takes sharp pics at 200mm and acceptable pics at 300mm (fuzzy at the fringes but pretty sharp in the middle). Good color rendition and, in good light, focuses fast. I'd definately recommend it to others. Switching in and out of macro is a bit cumbersome, but isn't difficult if you practice a little, and the autofocus is noisy. For as cheap as it is though, I'll deal with the perceived negatives.

very good lens for the price. it has moderate auto focus in the fact that it is very sharp but kind of slow until you have something in focus then its fast. i also love the macro feature on the lens it really does show on the pictures

Telephoto zoom lens with excellent cost performance and Optimized for use with digital SLR cameras
Capable of macro photography, this lens has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It's the ideal high performance lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range.
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass
We used SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. This also corrects for fluctuation of aberration due to focusing. The new multi layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum colour balance.
Macro shooting with maximum magnification 1:2
The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 m/59 inches at all zoom settings. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2.
Without changing the distance between camera and subject, you can change the shooting magnification
