Questions & Answers

Shopper : I just bought a Canon 16-35 2.8 lens that is 82mm. I have always used a polarizer with my other lenses and am wondering... Would this polarizer be any good for this lens?JASON D : Although I have the polarizer, I do not know this lens. Thanks, Kevin Duncan,FREDERICK H : I bought this one based on a technical review site, which put it at about five on a list of something like 40 circular polarizers. It works, but IMO it was not that impressive. I have a cheaper one for my 77mm thread lens and it actually seems to perform as well if not better. This will work fine for your lens, but I think for truly optimum results you need to get one of the really expensive ones.PEDRO O : Yes, this in my opinion and experience would be an excellent choice for your canon lens. I personally use the 77mm version for all my canon lenses when I need a polarizer. It is a thin lens and the pictures tend to be a bit on the warm side with this polarizer which is what i like to use. However, I use a APS-C camera. As with any full frame, the filter might cause some vignetting on the wide end.STEVE M : I used one on my Sigma 10-20mm and it worked fine. You should have the same results.DENNIS W : Since most wide angle lenses are used for landscape photography I would recommend the polarizer.
Shopper : Is it possible to put the front cap even if it's a slim filter?DANIEL L : No, the lens cap will not stay on securely with this filter installed.FREDERICK H : Yes, lens cap still works.JOEY J : Yes, I have not had a problem putting the front cap on when the filter is in place.MIKE T : The lens cap for my Sigma 24-70 fits with no problems. CHRIS A : Yes, can still use front cap on this filter.PEDRO O : Hello, with the Sigma 10-20mm lens I use it with, yes, it does work. Will it work with caps that are none Sigma? i do not know, but a Sigma 82mm cap does work with this filer.TIMOTHY H : yes, it goes on fine. Be prepared though, if you are using this on a very wide angle lens, the polarized area of the filter when properly rotated may still not be wide enough to encorporate the entire sky. I see mine as a wedge on the top with the sides of my photo unpolarized. Just my opinion. I have talked to others that do not see this as a problem.
Shopper : This Sigma - 82mm EX DG Multi-Coated Extra-Wide-Angle Circular Polarizer Glass Filter has a front thread? I have 16-35 mk ii This PLC creates vignetting Thanks OlegDEAN B : This slim filter has two full threads on the back, and two full threads on the front. I'm using the filter on the front of a wide angle lens that covers 111 degrees corner-to-corner. Ergo, putting anything on the front of this filter would cause vignetting in the corners. I use a bayonet lens hood, so I don't have anything I could try on the front threads.DAVID M : Also, I use it on a sigma 10-20mm super wide and I have no problems with vignetting, but I also use a crop sensor camera so I'm not sure what will happen on a full frame sensor if your camera has one. DavidDAVID M : Oleg, yes It has a front thread. David-ownerDENNIS W : Yes this Polarizer has a front thread. I use this Polarizer on a 24-70 Sigma and don't have a problem with vignetting.FREDERICK H : Yes, it has a very shallow front thread. No vignetting for me, but I am using it with a telephoto zoom (Sigma 100-300 f/4), so that is not really a good test. Vignetting occurs in very wide angle lenses normally, so I cannot comment on that.

Just what I needed

This filter stays on my Sigma 10-20 3.5 EX DC all the time. Thin thread helps eliminate vignetting. Easy to rotate. Great for landscape photography. Can't beat the price and quality.

Excellent fit for new Sigma Lenses

Leave it on my landscape/travel lenses as a lense protection in addition to a polarizer

Do your photos a favor, buy this!

I do a great amount of early morning landscape photography and often the location includes water; I desperately needed a solution to lens-flares. This polarizer is the perfect addition to my flare-prone Sigma 2.8 28-70DG. After applying the polarizer I forgot all about the problem. I read another review touting the glare-reducing benefits of a polarizer in portraiture so I decided to pull the trigger on this purchase. Thanks for the advice, this filter works great for eliminating the shine of oily faces. Buy it!You gotta have a good polarizer!

Very thin but it has deep front threads

I use this more often than my U.V. When I don't need it any more the U.V. goes back on, but either one is cheaper to replace than a lens. Since I read an article about using a Polarizer for Portraits I've been useing it with great results, someone wrote into the same magazine asking about useing a Polarizer for cars which is my main use for my Polarizers. Don't wait until you take a picture through glass or of some fish and you can only see reflecions of other things to buy a Polarizing Filter. P.S. this is as thin as my other Slim Polarizer but I can screw a filter onto the front of it much deeper.

Digitally Optimized (DG) Filters
EX DG filters benefit from Sigma's multi-layer lens coating, developed to counteract the highly reflective characteristic of image sensors. With older style filters, light would reflect off the image sensor, bounce off the lens and filter elements and re-enter the image sensor, creating a ghost image. The multi-layer coating dramatically reduces this effect. In addition to this, an optimum, neutral colour balance is ensured, increasing the white balance accuracy of the digital camera.

Wide Multi-Coated Circular PL
It reduces the glare and reflections from glass and water and other non-metallic surfaces. It deepens blue skies, and saturates the colors. The Sigma circular PL filter is designed to give best performance with AF Cameras. The Sigma wide multi coated circular polarizing filter is very thin, so it does not cause vignetting with wide-angle lenses. You can monitor the changes at different angles through the viewfinder as you rotate this filter.
