while i use an arca-swiss z1 for my heavy tripod, i needed a couple of lightweight heads for use on a slider and lightweight CF 'pod. few other heads in this price range have arca-swiss plates so after reading a number of reviews on this head, i tried one. i was happy enough to order a second. this verison (G-10) has a friction knob that is helpful and worth a few more dollars over the C-10 model. while the friction tension isn't smooth (not for use with video, fine for still work), its better than being totally floppy when loosened. the plate has a safety feature that i like. and a big things is it has a thumbscrew so that no tool is needed (nor needs to be carried and found) to install/remove the plate from the camera, something most other AS plates usually don't offer. pretty darn good quality construction considering the price. stroung enough to support a Nikon D800 with medium-size lens, but i mostly use it with smaller hybrids and P&S cameras. overall, a best-buy of a small ballhead.

The SIRUI G-10 Ball Head is precise, meticulously machined and perfect for professional photographers and enthusiasts alike for its world-class quality based on years' of accumulated experience of SIRUI and its innovative design. The G series ball head is applied with the best aerial material, machined by high-end CNC and using anodizing oxidation surface treatment on its exterior to achieve its superior quality. The main locking knob is separate from the friction control knob so that it can be more precisely controlled.
The structure of the interior is a double bevel locking system which locks the ball in a very strong manner. The 360-degree panel is integrated in the base which allows photographers to do panoramic or continuous shooting. The quick-release plate platform, adopting general sizes of international standards, is of the Arca-Swiss type, thus suitable for a variety of quick-release plates.
A red safety button is incorporated to prevent the quick-release plate from sliding off the platform easily; the plate can be released by pressing on the button. The four knobs of adjustment (from the base and up, respectively) are the panoramic control knob (smallest), friction controlled knob for fine tuning and adjustment (medium size), ball-locking knob (the largest) and the plate-locking knob at the top. The G-10 Ball Head can support up to 18 kg (40 lbs) and is suitable for 35 mm and medium-format photographic cameras, DSLRs and digital or conventional type video camcorders.
