I bought this tripod with Slik SBH-200DS Ball Head as a package. I'm a non-professional photographer shooting mostly outdoor landscapes on weekends. My current tripod is the Dolica GX600B200, which is slightly cheaper. Compared to the Dolica, this Slik tripod is half a pound lighter (the SBH200 ball head is really heavy) and seems to have been better machined (edges are smoother). The ball head feels more secure that the Dolica's. I have attached my Nikkor 80-200mm on the tripod with my Nikon D7000 (~4 lbs total) to it - it felt stable, although I wouldn't anything significantly heavier than this. The downsides are: 1. Height - it goes up to about 5ft 4inches. 2. Lack of a bubble level 3. Weight of the ball head

This is a very durable but light weight tripod. I am an advanced amatuer.

This tripod is hefty enough for my D600. It may be a bit too low for anyone taller than my 5 ft, 4 in. I like to stoop down a bit to look through the viewfinder and also be able to see the settings on the screen on top of the camera with the center column raised half-way. The center column came with an attached extension tube which could be removed when using the tripod for low angle shots. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this product is actually a PRO 340DX and not the ABLE as advertised. This has the round grooved leg sections instead of the "D" shaped legs of the ABLE line. It also came with a decent ballhead but the shortcoming I see with the ballhead is that it has no separate panning control knob. This really isn't an issue for me because if you leave the center column at its lowest position and leave the tightening screw loose, you could pan reasonably well this way. This is a backup tripod for me but it really complements my older Manfrotto.

I have Bogen(Manfrotto)and Gitzo tripods. I bought this tripod because I want a light weight, low cost tripod to carry around. I will also use this tripod to support a 80mm spotting scope for bird watching. When the central column is low, the tripod is very sturdy and can support a full frame DSLR or a field scope no problem. When the long central column is fully extended, I would only use it for a APS-C DSLR with a kit lens. It is good enough for my applications.

Great product for travel and portrait/landscapes at night. Light and folds down nice for travel. Only downside is that there is no level but, for the price, can't be beat!

I've been using this for the Nikon D5100 I also purchased with the gift money. So far I've been pretty happy. This is the first tripod I've ever used so I have nothing to compare it to but I've been getting good night shots and it doesn't seem to be blowing around in the wind in the timelapses I've done. The quick release is great and I've gotten some nice panoramic pictures as well. The one thing I would say is it's a lighter duty tripod. I'm planning on shooting some video and I don't think it will handle that as well but for basic photography I think it adjust really well and is good for someone who is looking for a good quality, light duty, tripod just for taking some pictures.

I have used it outside and I like it alot, I would like it to be a little taller, but for a travel tripod it works great.

This was a gift from my wife, with a few hints from me. I have used this tripod to steady my d3100 with various lenses including the Nikon 55-300. It works great for my style of sunset shooting which sometimes requires a very low placement of the camera. I prefer its compact size over other tripods I have used as well as its relatively light weight. My only complaint is the head's side handle has to be removed for compact storage and transport. Still, a great product. This is my second Slik product and it will not be my last!

Great little tripod. I keep it in the trunk for backup and when I need to pack-it in. I've used it with a Nikon D90 and Nikkor 70-300 with good stability.

For the money this is an outstanding tripod; it comes with a 3 way Pan/Tilt head - all metal, no flimsy plastic! - that can be swapped-out for a Ball Head or different Pan/Tilt head from Slik, or just about any major manufacturer. The angle and length of the legs can be adjusted independently, which is ideal for when you're setting up on rough ground for instance, or on a flight of stairs! In fact, the legs can be opened out practically "flat," to get you close to the ground, and this is VERY important, the Center Column is in TWO parts, and NOT one as detailed in the spec above. By unscrewing the lower section of the column, and opening the legs out as wide as they can go you can get your camera down to about a foot off the ground, which gives you a whole new perspective on things; great for landscape or architectural photography! One minor quibble or "Con" is the Horizontal Tilt Handle. Because of the design of the head the tripod CANNOT be stored in a bag with this handle in place. You have to unscrew it and either drop it into the bag as is, or screw it into the end of the Vertical Tilt Handle, which is how the tripod arrives. Like I said, a minor issue and certainly not one that would make me take off a Star from the rating. In fact, because of the independently adjustable legs, there's a wide range of Horizontal Tilt adjustment available, more than on any other tripod I've used, and that long handle becomes VERY welcome! The combination of the black finish and the foam leg wraps give this tripod a very classy look, and whilst this is the most expensive tripod I've purchased, after using it for a couple of weeks I can say that it's worth every penny... HIGHLY recommended!

The New SLIK PRO 340 DX Black compact travel tripod with 3-way pan head makes an excellent traveling companion for your point-and-shoot camera or light-weight Digital SLR. The NEW PRO 340 DX Black is the same tripod as the SLIK PRO 340 DX, but with black finished legs instead of the traditional A.M.T metal finish.
A.M.T. makes all the difference.
SLIK's exclusive A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make the PRO 340 DX Black tripod rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, making it lighter and stronger than the standard metal used in most tripods.
PRO 340 DX Black Tripod
A tripod should be solid and easy to use, so you spend more time concentrating on your photography than you do your equipment. The PRO 340 DX Black makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks (example pictured left). Padded leg wraps make the tripod more comfortable to carry. A gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The adjustable angle locks combined with the PRO 340 DX Short Column (optional accessory) allow the tripod to be lowered to just 10 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.
Stable all-metal head with easy-to-use quick release.
The included SH-705E all-metal 3-way pan head has over a solid pound of finely cast and machined aluminum. It uses a fast and easy to use quick-release plate to securely mount the camera on the tripod.
PRO 340 DX Black 3-WAY HEAD
Already have a favorite tripod head you would like to use? Or, would you rather use a SLIK professional ball head? No problem. The PRO 340 DX Black head can be removed and the tripod legs have a standard 1/4-20 thread that can also accept a thread adapter to 3/8 in. Between these 2 sizes, the PRO 340 DX Black can mountalmost any tripod head on the market today. The sturdy legs can handle up to 10 lbs of equipment with ease.
