The NEW SLIK PRO 780 DX tripod uses the widely popular PRO 700 DX legs in black color, coupled with a new SH-807E heavier duty 3-Waypan head.
A.M.T. makes all the difference.
SLIK's exclusive A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make the PRO 780 DX tripod heavy-duty and rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, making it lighter and stronger than the standard metal used in most tripods.
The PRO 780 DX is capable of supporting the weight of professional digital cameras and heavy telephoto lenses up to a 400 mm f/2.8. This complete tripod offers professional photographers and advanced amateurs the strength and stability they need, while its size and the use of A.M.T. alloy make it lighter and more portable than many professional offerings from other manufacturers.
A tripod should be solid and easy to use, so you spend more time concentrating on your photography than you do your equipment.
The PRO 780 DX black tripod makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks, gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The PRO 780 DX center column is actually two threaded piecesthat unscrew to convert the top piece to a short column. This combined with the adjustable leg angle locks allows the tripod to be lowered to just 15 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.
SH-807E Stable all-metal head with easy-to-use quick release.
Included with the PRO 780 DX is a new SH-807E all-metal 3-way pan head. This head has improved internal components for smoother movements and improved, larger rubberized grips for more comfortable control. The head has well over a solid pound of finely cast and precisely machined aluminum. It uses a fast and easy to use quick-release plate to securely mount the camera on the tripod.

Solid and easy to use
I bought this tripod to use with a birding scope, and often I attach a camera for digiscoping. The stability is excellent. I wanted a tripod that's taller than most, to see through the straight eyepiece of my scope when I'm looking up at something (e.g., planets and stars). This one puts my equipment at eye level, even w/o extending the center column. The pan/tilt action is smooth and can be locked with a simple twist. The quick-release plate is easy to operate, and rock solid. I appreciate tView full Review

I appreciate that all the adjustments -- leg locks, pan/tilt handles, quick-release -- are big and grippy enough to work while wearing bulky warm gloves. The padding on the legs and the bag for carrying are nice touches at this price level. The tripod is a bit heavy for carrying in the field, but overall is great value for the money.

Doesn't fit Olympus digital SLR
Not a bad tripod, very stable and sturdy. Well-built. Only problem - and it's a major one - is that the quick-release mount included with this model doesn't fit my Olympus e410 - the screw is the wrong thread and the alignment tab on the mount is too close to the screw to fit into the hole on the bottom of the camera. I am going to have to buy another head for the tripod to fit my camera.

Pro Photographer. I love the extra tall range as I shoot architecture.
I loved this tripod, isn't that heavy as some people say.
It's a quality product and worth every penny. Very smooth pan. Versatile with three different leg settings, I particularly enjoy the ability to reverse the center-beam for close-in macro-shooting and document archiving. Bottom line is. . why put an expensive camera and lens on a flimsy base? Perfect for me; someone not a pro but looking to get more serious about photography. Some have complained that it is a bit heavy and that's true. . but it's good heavy and who wants a tripod that can get tipped or blown over? To me it speaks quality. A great buy!
I really good product and price
I use this for landscape photography, and HDR work. It's tall enough, solid, and not too heavy to carry on a trail, although I wouldn't want to take it more than a few miles. The maximum weight it will support is 5 Kilograms, or 11 pounds, so your 400mm 2.8 is to heavy for this unit. I like the dual levels, no more off kilter photographs!
Adorama site was most helpful in selecting this tripod combo. Lots of helpful information and video. Prices are right on, also.
This tripod is as good or better than alot of the higher priced ones i have looked at. Its smooth and easy to set up, the lever style leg locks hold solid as does the center coloum, very sturdy. I am six foot and with the center coloum all the way down its the perfect hight for me, no hunching over. I like the wieght of it, some people have said it is heavy, but I think it feels sturdier, doesnt feel like it will blow over in a breeze. I would not hesitate to recomend this to anyone. Definitly happy with this puchase
Don't trust your expensive equipment to an inferior tripod, that could cost a lot in the long run
I have used this product to shoot landscapes, and for panning. It has a very smooth swivel for panning, and is very sturdy for long exposures. It is extremely well built. While it is a bit heavy, I like the solid feel of it.
This product arrived this afternoon but I can tell already i am going to be fine with it. I am an older guy but find the units solid build to be very beneficial. I will be packing this around all the time, often at 10,000 + ft altitudes. It is not that heavy. Will be using on landscapes as well as wildlife photography. I need to have a piece that is durable and stable. This tripod certainly fills the bill. Since the legs have nice foam guards on them it will be easier to shoulder as well spread out the legs on those days that are frozen and below. Slik tripods have been in my inventory for over 40 years. Looks like they will stay there that much longer.
