About Slik 500DX

Solid Performance, Solid Value The SLIK PRO 500 DX

A.M.T. makes all the difference.
SLIK's exclusive A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make the PRO 500 DX tripod rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, making it lighter and stronger than the standard metal used in most tripods.

The PRO 500 DX is capable of supporting the weight of Professional Digital cameras and heavy telephoto lenses up to a 300mm f/2.8. This complete tripod offers advanced amateurs and student photographers the strength and stability they need, while its size and the use of A.M.T. alloy make it lighter and more portable than many professional offerings from other manufacturers.

PRO 500 DX TRIPOD
A tripod should be solid and easy to use, so you spend more time concentrating on your photography than you do your equipment.

The PRO 500 DX makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks. A gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The PRO 500 DX center column is actually two threaded pieces that unscrew to convert the top piece to a short column. This combined with the adjustable leg angle locks allows the tripod to be lowered to just 13.8 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.

Stable all-metal head with easy-to-use quick release.
The included PRO 500 DX all-metal 3-way pan head has over a solid pound of finely cast and machined aluminum. It uses a fast and easy to use quick-release plate to securely mount the camera on the tripod.

PRO 500 DX 3-WAY HEAD
Already have a favorite tripod head you would like to use?
Or, would you rather use a SLIK professional ball head? No problem. The PRO 500 DX head can be removed and the tripod legs have a standard 1/4-20 thread that can also accept a thread adapter to 3/8 in. Between these 2 sizes, the PRO 500 DX can mount almost any tripod head on the market today. The sturdy legs can handle up to 10 lbs of equipment with ease.

Very stable tripod for a good price

This is a monster of a tripod and the perfect choice for semi-pros like me. For the price I doubt if there is any better choice available. I bought this tripod after a lot of research and it has yielded me with perfect results.[@] A very stable tripod for those long exposure shots. Folding/unfolding is also quite simple and quick.thanks,[@]

The tripod is great-Forget the head.

This tripod is outstanding-I agree with all the favorable reviews of the tripod. The pan and tilt head does not live up to the quality of the tripod. The pan and tilt handles are too loose in their threads when loosened enough to unlock the pan and tilt functions. Couple the loose handles with the sticking of the pan/tilt movements, and I find this combination unsuitable for precise adjustments; such as macro or astro photo work. Good tripod but heavy

By

from ME  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Ordered the 500DX sight unseen and felt it was to heavy for an old guy to tote around. I already have a video/digital tripod. I really wanted a lighter "pod and I asked for a 330DX as an exchange on Nov 25. It's been 10 days since and can't comment on the 330 because its back-ordered. I guess te exchange went well but have nothing to show as of Dec 5. I was notified it occurred

Does the job

By

from Sault Ste. Marie MI  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this Tripod to use with my Canon A2E, 50D and, my 5D. My daughter is taking Photography in collage and snapped it up 3 days after I received it. I have a f 2.8 70-200 lens with a 2x extender (which she is also using) and, she says the tripod is sturdy and no problems at all. she uses it for a wide range of photography and seems to like it alot. When I get it back I'll tell you how I like it but, I may just have to get another one for me. Heh,Heh!!

Nice sturdy Tripod

I like the height and sturdiness of this Tripod. I don't think this is heavy at all. Well made too.

Good solid performer

By

from OK  -  Photo Enthusiast

I have used this tripod with my Nikon D90 and various lenses, to include a big, heavy Nikor 300mm f2.8. The tripod is solid and performs well. I like the fit and finish, and the many functions to include multiple locking positions for the legs at the pivots. I would like a smoother pan for using a video camera, but this head really isn't made for that. For the price and the class this tripod is in, it is an excellent product.

Just what I was looking for

By

from San Francisco, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

After reading the reviews and looking at Slik's Web site I settled on the 500DX. The super A.T.M. is very strong and stable. The weight isn't a big deal. The tripod sets up fast is very sturdy and easy to use. One feature that the web site didn't mention, the legs have three angle positions, very cool. I switched out the head to a ball head it didn't really need it I had an extra one, the pan and tilt head works just fine.

ADORAMA TELLS IT LIKE IT IS!

By

from Western North Carolina  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I am a retired professional photographer who was looking to replace a well-worn tripod, and found the SLIK PRO 500DX to meet all my demands -- very well built, yet lightweight, and sturdy without being cumbersome... It is easy to unfold and extend and to close up. It is exactly as advertised by Adorama -- a company you can trust. It is now my Number One buying source.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  how much does it weigh?
ERNEST W  Hi there, I bought this as a gift for my son-in- law who will be using it for very casual self-photos for Christmas cards and the like. When I examined it before wrapping it I thought it seemed pretty heavy for hauling around for more serious landscape photography, etc. though it seemed sturdy enough for even medium format cameras in a studio setting. The actual weight of the tripod is 5.91 lbs. which can be seen in the Tech Specs tab on the Adorama website. That doesn't sound like much but I sure wouldn't want to carry one too far. Hope this helps! Btw, my son-in-law loves his new tripod...
