This is my first purchase of a Slik tripod. Love this light weight, adjustable legs tripod. It replaced a Sunpack that was heavy and the spread was not adjustable. When first opening the legs, it was stiff which is nice for me. On the floor (hardwood) the legs would spread a little until I placed the weight of the camera on the legs (D610, Battery grip, 28-70 lens) at which time the tripod was stable. There are no spikes on the leg tips, on the rubber slanted feet and are not adjustable. The bag is nice in that it is zippered on one end and has two straps that are not adjustable (Oh well). The bag is long enough for the kegs and an attached ball head. Nice tripod for the price. Would not return to get another brand.

Ive had this for 3-4 years now and love it. Very solid and find the price very good for being able to hold as much weight as it does. And that it can go almost ground level is a bonus. I usually break my tripods because the pan head starts to droop from weight, but not this one

I have no complaints with the tripod itself, but in retrospect I should have just purchased the legs, and gotten a good ball head to go along with it. While the included 3-way pan/tilt head gets the job done, I find it a little cumbersome to use. It does pan very smoothly, though. I think I'll appreciate it more if I decide to delve a bit more into video, so it won't be a total loss. The locking mechanism that secures the plate is very tight, and initially difficult to engage and release. I mean it's tight to the point where paint flaked off at the metal to metal points where it makes contact, and the metal on the plate became slightly notched to allow it to completely lock in. I was a little concerned about this and contacted Slik via email. To their credit they responded the same day and assured me it would get smoother over time, which it did, and it is no longer an issue. I'll say this: when the lever is fully engaged, the camera is going nowhere. As for the weight, it's not bad at all in my opinion. I carried it up and down scores of steps at a waterfall site here in the heat of late June, covering a couple of miles, and the weight both in the included bag, and when I had it deployed with the legs folded in, was managable to this soon to be 54 year old. I would recommend this tripod to someone who wants a sturdy, very decent to good, tripod without paying an exorbitant price. I'd definitely buy Slik products in the future.

Ordered the 500DX sight unseen and felt it was to heavy for an old guy to tote around. I already have a video/digital tripod. I really wanted a lighter "pod and I asked for a 330DX as an exchange on Nov 25. It's been 10 days since and can't comment on the 330 because its back-ordered. I guess te exchange went well but have nothing to show as of Dec 5. I was notified it occurred

I bought this Tripod to use with my Canon A2E, 50D and, my 5D. My daughter is taking Photography in collage and snapped it up 3 days after I received it. I have a f 2.8 70-200 lens with a 2x extender (which she is also using) and, she says the tripod is sturdy and no problems at all. she uses it for a wide range of photography and seems to like it alot. When I get it back I'll tell you how I like it but, I may just have to get another one for me. Heh,Heh!!

I like the height and sturdiness of this Tripod. I don't think this is heavy at all. Well made too.

I have used this tripod with my Nikon D90 and various lenses, to include a big, heavy Nikor 300mm f2.8. The tripod is solid and performs well. I like the fit and finish, and the many functions to include multiple locking positions for the legs at the pivots. I would like a smoother pan for using a video camera, but this head really isn't made for that. For the price and the class this tripod is in, it is an excellent product.

This tripod is outstanding-I agree with all the favorable reviews of the tripod. The pan and tilt head does not live up to the quality of the tripod. The pan and tilt handles are too loose in their threads when loosened enough to unlock the pan and tilt functions. Couple the loose handles with the sticking of the pan/tilt movements, and I find this combination unsuitable for precise adjustments; such as macro or astro photo work. The head is OK for standard photography, but even then the problems I mentioned are noticeable and can cause some frustration. I recommend purchasing the legs without this head, and order a better head or ballhead. I cannot recommend this tripod 'WITH THIS HEAD' to a friend.

After reading the reviews and looking at Slik's Web site I settled on the 500DX. The super A.T.M. is very strong and stable. The weight isn't a big deal. The tripod sets up fast is very sturdy and easy to use. One feature that the web site didn't mention, the legs have three angle positions, very cool. I switched out the head to a ball head it didn't really need it I had an extra one, the pan and tilt head works just fine.

I am a retired professional photographer who was looking to replace a well-worn tripod, and found the SLIK PRO 500DX to meet all my demands -- very well built, yet lightweight, and sturdy without being cumbersome... It is easy to unfold and extend and to close up. It is exactly as advertised by Adorama -- a company you can trust. It is now my Number One buying source.

This is a monster of a tripod and the perfect choice for semi-pros like me. For the price I doubt if there is any better choice available. I bought this tripod after a lot of research and it has yielded me with perfect results.[@] A very stable tripod for those long exposure shots. Folding/unfolding is also quite simple and quick.thanks,[@]

This tripod is very sturdy. I use it for wildlife photography and it does the job. It is a little heavy if your going to hike very far but not to bad.

A little heavy, but that is outweighed by the other capabilities of this tripod. Range of height is outstanding with good weight capacity and locks in strong. Good tripod for any terrain and its construction is solid. Would want something slimmer and lighter for travel, although it fit into my checked bag fine on my last flight. I bought this as a versitle all-around tripod and I am not disappointed.

I put it to work recently at the Studebaker museum. Lighting was very low with lots of small spotlighting on the cars. Most of my shots were 1 sec. exposures and the results were astounding.

Very stable and quick to set up. It is a litle heavy. I use a backpack on photo hikes so weight is not an issue. The tripod is very well made and the head adjustments are smooth which was an issue for me with cheaper tripods as well as stability. Iam totally satisfied with this purchase.

If your veiwfinder can be seen from above take some pictures this Christmass from the viewpoint of a child thats kneehigh to a man! I found the short center shaft I've spent months looking for, I recommend buying one as well as a 2nd. quick release plate, and bullseye hot shoe level with a 1/4"-20 hole like kaiser makes, you can attach it to the quick release plate to level the head or a center shaft to level the legs so when your panning to do a panoramic your parallel to the horizon.

Solid Performance, Solid Value The SLIK PRO 500 DX
A.M.T. makes all the difference.
SLIK's exclusive A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make the PRO 500 DX tripod rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, making it lighter and stronger than the standard metal used in most tripods.
The PRO 500 DX is capable of supporting the weight of Professional Digital cameras and heavy telephoto lenses up to a 300mm f/2.8. This complete tripod offers advanced amateurs and student photographers the strength and stability they need, while its size and the use of A.M.T. alloy make it lighter and more portable than many professional offerings from other manufacturers.
PRO 500 DX TRIPOD
A tripod should be solid and easy to use, so you spend more time concentrating on your photography than you do your equipment.
The PRO 500 DX makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks. A gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The PRO 500 DX center column is actually two threaded pieces that unscrew to convert the top piece to a short column. This combined with the adjustable leg angle locks allows the tripod to be lowered to just 13.8 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.
Stable all-metal head with easy-to-use quick release.
The included PRO 500 DX all-metal 3-way pan head has over a solid pound of finely cast and machined aluminum. It uses a fast and easy to use quick-release plate to securely mount the camera on the tripod.
PRO 500 DX 3-WAY HEAD
Already have a favorite tripod head you would like to use?
Or, would you rather use a SLIK professional ball head? No problem. The PRO 500 DX head can be removed and the tripod legs have a standard 1/4-20 thread that can also accept a thread adapter to 3/8 in. Between these 2 sizes, the PRO 500 DX can mount almost any tripod head on the market today. The sturdy legs can handle up to 10 lbs of equipment with ease.
