About Slik SBH-100

Economical compact SLIK ball heads, the SBH-60, SBH-100 and SBH-120.... All three ball heads are very similar in design but differ in size and load capacity. All three heads have an easy to operate one lever release that allows the ball head to move and then locks it into place when the camera is at the desired position.

Differing themselves from many inexpensive ball heads on the market, the base of these heads can rotate in addition to the ball movement. This makes horizontal movement of the camera much easier.

The SBH-60 is the smallest of the series and is designed primarily for compact lightweight point-and-shoot digital and film cameras. The intermediate sized SBH-100 can handle a larger point-and-shoot digital camera, bridge camera or lightweight SLR. The SBH-120 is designed for light to intermediate weight SLR cameras. Benefiting from all metal construction, these heads will be able to handle many years of normal use.

The Slik SBH-100 is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Slik SBH-100: Attaches firmly and Large range of motion

Works well

I've attached this to my monopod and use it for a small Canon A520. It works very well and allows me more options of framing with the monopod. Used together, it gives me terrific stability, sharp photos without carrying and setting up a tripod.

Light compact quality made

One selling point is that base can rotate independent of ball joint for easy horizontal panning. In real use this is difficult to do because to rotate easily one has to loosen the ball clamp which in turn means you might loose positioning of your optical equipment. Ideally a separate tightener for base should be added. Otherwise it is a fine product and I like the large lever handle and tabs on mount for tightening.

Light & compact well made

Pros Small, compact, sturdy, light & well made. Easy to tighten due to large clamp knob and tabs on mount. Cons Base 360 swivel is not as useful as might be because in order to have ease of movement the ball clamp must be loosen which might then affect camera position. Base tightness should be independent of ball joint.

Goes with me on every hike

By

from Jefferson City, MO  -  Photo Enthusiast

I use the SBH-100 on my Leki monopod/walking stick with my Nikon D-40. It works great on hikes, especially in low light, allowing me to shoot at slower shutter speeds than I would hand-held. It also comes in handy shooting indoors, too, when I can't use a tripod. The ballhead gives me practically an infinite range of angles, and adjusts smoothly. The only time I've had trouble with slippage is when I haven't tightened the ballhead to the camera properly.
